Oscars 2012: Who Took Home An Academy Award

The 84th Annual Academy Awards were held in Hollywood at the Kodak Theatre (or as host Billy Crystal quipped – the Chapter 11 Theater) on Sunday night and there were few surprises.

Crystal was his usual affable, likable self; the ratings were up slightly from last year but there were no really big wow moments to the 2012 Oscars.

The biggest winners of the night were Martin Scorsese‘s Hugo and Michel HazanaviciusThe Artist – each taking 5 wins, although The Artist won the biggest nods of Best Director, Best Feature and Best Leading Actor among it’s accolades.

The Help star Octavia Spencer had a very sweet moment at the podium when she was genuinely overcome with emotion as she accepted her Best Supporting Actress gold statue.

Chistopher Plummer and Meryl Streep were also very engaging during their thank you speeches and Jean Dujardin shared a moment with Uggie, the Jack Russell terrier of The Artist that has become a fan favorite.

Viola Davis and George Clooney were hot contenders for Best Actress and Actor categories, respectively, but both walked away empty handed.

Among the presenters for the evening: Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez, Tom Hanks, Cameron Diaz, Tina Fey, Michael Douglas, Bradley Cooper, Chris Rock, Melissa Leo, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph and Emma Stone.

Death at a Funeral Poster

Here’s the new poster for the upcoming comedy Death at a Funeral starring Chris Rock, Tracy Morgan, Martin Lawrence, Loretta Devine, Ron Glass, Danny Glover, Regina Hall, James Marsden, Zoe Saldana, Columbus Short, and Kevin Hart.

Talk about a massive troupe of comics, this movie is definitely going to have some good laughs by default. I’m looking forward to seeing a trailer for this one. Look for it in theaters this April.

No Kanye Jokes From Chris Rock

Chris Rock Kanye West

There has been plenty of celebrity response to Kanye West’s ruining Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards this year. Even President Obama called him a “Jackass”. Just don’t expect comedian Chris Rock to join in on the judging. He understands that the way a singer gets back at you, is to put it in song!

I don’t talk about Kanye because he’s a rapper, and he can put you in a song where you get dissed every day. Every single day, every 20 minutes on the radio, you are getting dissed – and far too many things rhyme with ‘Rock’”.

I can only imagine what Kanye’s new album is going to be. Would he really go dissing all those who called him out at the VMAs? If he did a song for each one, he’d have enough to fill a whole CD! Might not be a bad idea.

Tracy Morgan, Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock Together for ‘Funeral’

Tracy Morgan and Martin Lawrence are joining Chris Rock for the film Death at a Funeral.

Tracy Morgan and Martin Lawrence are joining Chris Rock in Screen Gems and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment’s remake of “Death at a Funeral.”

Also joining the cast are Loretta Devine, Ron Glass, Danny Glover, Regina Hall, James Marsden, Zoe Saldana and Columbus Short.

Neil LaBute is directing the ensemble comedy in which a funeral ceremony turns into a debacle of misplaced cadavers and family secrets. When things can’t get any worse, a man arrives saying he’s the dead man’s gay lover and threatens blackmail.

I know I’ll get some laughs out of this movie, these guys are all funny.
