David Cook’s oldest brother, Adam Cook, has died from brain cancer at the very young age of 37.

David Cook announced the Saturday death at the 12th annual Race for Hope 5K in Washington, D.C., where he was serving as grand marshal. The singer says the cause of death was a brain tumor.

Adam Cook was a lawyer and married father from Terre Haute, Ind., who battled cancer for more than a decade. He famously cheered for his singing sibling in the audience of the popular Fox singing competition’s seventh season in 2008.

This is not Cook’s brother who also auditioned for the show and was the real reason he was even there. That’s a younger brother, Andrew.

Our prayers and thoughts go out to David Cook and his family during this difficult time. I really believe that there will be a cure for cancer in my lifetime, and it can’t come soon enough. We love you, David!!

So let’s establish: If you’re a David Cook fan today, you’ve got a reason to be excited, but also a reason to be concerned for more-personal reasons.  The American Idol Season 7 winner has canceled several tour dates due to “family matters”.  No, not the popular 1990’s TV show, that would just be silly.

Monday’s gig at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire, and Tuesday’s show at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven, Connecticut were both affected.

Says his people:

“We are canceling [Monday's] and Tuesday’s shows to allow David time to deal with personal family matters,” a note posted on Cook’s site on Sunday explained. “Please respect his privacy at this time. David would like everyone to rest assured that we are working with the universities to reschedule the shows that are missed.”

Could the issue be a health matter with Cook’s older brother Adam?  The 29-year old has been battling brain cancer for years.

I love David Cook. I love his sound, his creativity, his humility, his look, his personality, his hair, his music, his lyrics- I love it all. But apparently there are some really crazy fans of the American Idol out there, and David’s telling them to back off!

“I have to address some behavior that has become disturbing,” wrote Cook in a Sunday posting on his MySpace blog.  “We pride ourselves on being accessible to you as fans, but in contrast, we do enjoy what little privacy we can muster. To that end, the efforts by some fans to find our hotel rooms, call our hotel rooms, attach things to our bus, etc., is something I have to condemn.”

“Should this behavior continue, the only thing we can do is take more preventative measures to maintain our privacy, which in turn makes us less accessible to you,” he wrote. Cook said that he hopes fans don’t view his request as “harsh.”… “I merely want to nip this in the bud so we can continue to have a great experience with all of you at the shows we have coming up,” he wrote.

I really hope a few rotten apples don’t ruin it for the rest of us! Hey psychos… CHILL OUT!

David Cook is hitting the college scene for his 37 stop national tour beginning in just a few weeks. Though a few of the stops won’t be held at college venues, most of them will be on campuses around the country.

“There’s something inherently nostalgic about playing college shows. So many amazing acts used to do it, so it’s nice to be able to bring that ideal back, in some small way,” Cook told Reuters.

“Besides, touring on a bus beats what we used to do, which was cram five guys into a 7 passenger van for one show, 13 hours away,” he added.

… And millions of American girls everywhere let out a huge sigh of relief. Gorgeous rocker David Cook has broken up with his fellow American Idol alum girlfriend Kimberly Caldwell.

“Kimberly and David ended their relationship just before the holidays. The couple remain good friends and being very private people, appreciate their privacy at this time,” Caldwell’s representative told In Touch Weekly in a Monday report.

Cook,�American Idol’s seventh-season champion,�and Caldwell, a former second-season Idol finalist,�had begun their relationship in May when Cook asked Caldwell out to dinner while she interviewed him live on the TV Guide Channel prior to Idol’s seventh-season finale.

On December 11 Cook had confirmed that they were still together during a radio interview with WNCI-FM’s Dave and Jimmy. At that time he also denied Star magazine reports that he was going to be proposing over the holidays. Yeh, guess they were way off on that one, eh?

American Idol winner David Cook stopped by Kansas City’s Children Mercy Hospital Monday morning to hand out Shadow Buddies toys and to meet, greet, and cheer up terminally ill and mentally-ill children.

I really love how this kid seems genuine.� Sure he isn’t really selling…. at all, but he seems sincere in the ways he wants to use celebrity for the common good.

David Cook and Kimberly Caldwell have been together since he asked her out on live TV during an interview following his American Idol win, but the two lovebirds don’t usually let us get a glimpse of them together. Until now… yesterday they had a romantic lunch day in Santa Monica and left holding hands and acting cuddly. They’re such a cool little rock couple. Hopefully fame doesn’t go to his head and he stays true to his girl, much like the guy his sound is being compared to, Chris Daughtry.

With David�s debut album set to hit stores Tuesday, November 18th, he recently told press that his first single �Light On� is a musical mixture of different rock genres.

��Light On� is an interesting song. It encompasses almost all of my range. It�s all over the place. That�s Chris Cornell at his finest. It�s got some Zeppelin influence in it; it�s got some �80s hair-metal influence; it�s got some grunge influence. To me it�s like a rock history lesson put into about a four-minute lecture. It�s fun to play, but it is definitely an intimidating song.�

I am so excited to get his album as soon as it comes out. I think he is definitely the most all-around talented person to ever come off that show and I wish him all the best.

… REALLY? His performances were among the most edgy of American Idol’s history, but that’s not good enough for recent season winner David Cook who’s putting the finishing touches on his debut album.

“I’m not trying to surprise people now: I’m putting out a rock record. I just want the songs to kick you in the teeth or make you want to cry � or do something drastic, like jump off a building. I want somebody to be exhausted when they’re done listening,” said Cook who enlisted the help of Green Day producer Rob Cavallo.

Expressing how important (and impromptu) getting to know Cavallo after the AI tour was, Cook puts forth probably one of the best descriptions in journalistic history -

“But you can’t expect anybody else to invest themselves emotionally in a record if you can’t do it yourself. It was really scary � the best analogy I can come up with is that it was like taking off your clothes in church.”

In anticipation of his first album set to be released November 18, David Cook will be the musical guest on the November 1st episode of Saturday Night Live. His appearance will mark the earliest appearance post win/finale for any American Idol who has appeared on the show.

He will perform the first single, �Light On,� in his �SNL� appearance, which will mark the first televised performance of the song, as well as Cook�s first public outing with his new band. The song is already available for download on iTunes.

His publicity tour in support of the album will also include a live, open-to-the-public performance on �Good Morning America� booked for Nov. 17.� He has planned a national tour for early 2009.

I hope he actually comes somewhere close to me on his tour so I can go see him. He is by far the most talented Idol ever!

RCA has confirmed that David Cook, the rockin’ winner of American Idol Season 7 has been working with Grammy-winning producer Rob Cavallo on his debut 19 Recordings/RCA Records album, which is currently projected to drop this fall. Cavello has worked with artists including Green Day, Kid Rock, My Chemical Romance, Eric Clapton, the Goo Goo Dolls and Dave Matthews Band. Besides taking a little time (haha) for that pesky American Idol tour, David has been in the studio co-writing songs for his album. His first single “Time of My Life” sits on the Billboard top 100 at #39 after 11 weeks on the chart. He is rumored to be dating former Idol contestant Kimberly Caldwell.
