Denzel Washington To Deliver University of Pennsylvania Commencement Speech

The aging but still extremely good looking Denzel Washington has been selected to speak at the University of Pennsylvania’s 255th Commencement ceremony this May.

President Amy Gutmann explains why she was the University’s choice to send off this year’s graduating seniors:

“Denzel Washington has used his tremendous talent as an actor to bring the most significant social and historical issues into the limelight — from portraying a South African freedom fighter, a dedicated educator of young minds, and a homophobic lawyer rising to the defense of a gay man to portraying of one America’s most passionate civil rights activists.   He is also recognized for his inspiring work in public service, most particularly with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, an organization to which he belonged in his youth and now helps guide by serving as a board member, donor and longtime spokesperson.”

Indeed.

Denzel will receive an honorary Doctor of Arts Degree at the ceremony, which he can add to his growing collection:  he already holds honorary degrees from Morehouse College and Fordham University (where he actually did earn his B.A. in 1977).  He can add this honor to his pile of awards and accolades, including his most recent:  an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor In A Motion Picture for his role in The Book Of Eli.

Another New ‘Book of Eli’ Poster, Still Not Impressive

book_of_eli_ver22

Here’s another new poster for the upcoming film The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington.

This one fails to impress me any more than the last versions. I just don’t have high hopes for this movie, seems like it’s going to be kind of a dud.

New ‘Book of Eli’ Poster Gives Denzel a Close-Up

Book of Eli Poster

Here’s the latest poster for the upcoming film The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington.

Not the most inventive or informative poster, but I’m not expecting the movie to be all that inventive either. I will watch it based on the cast, but that’s about the only thing drawing me to this one.

Backseat Cuddler’s Ten Hot Actors Over 50

harrison-ford-indiana-jones-and-the-crystal-skull-screening

Last week, Madonna dissed men her own age, saying that they are unattractive and grumpy.  (Also “divorced.”  Look who’s talking, Madge.)

Sure, there are plenty of older guys out there who resemble her remarks.  However, there are also plenty of older stars who still got it, big time.  Here’s our list of ten hot male celebs over 50 whom we wouldn’t kick out of bed for eating crackers.

Denzel Washington (54).  Look, I know getting weak in the knees for Denzel is nearly a cliche, but that’s one good looking man.

Sir Sean Connery (79).   Diamonds Are Forever, and so is the appeal of the silver screen’s original 007.    No surprise that even at age 69 he was named the Sexiest Man of the Century.

Liam Neeson (57).  I have been a fan of his for a long time, but his turn in Love, Actually forever clinched it.  Handsome guy AND a great dad?  I melt.

Richard Gere (60).   What red-blooded girl didn’t want to be swept off her feet by him like Debra Winger in An Officer And A Gentleman?   And he still looks good.

Samuel L. Jackson (60).  Mace Windu.  That’s all I have to say.

Kevin Costner (54).  He made us “believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.”

Jimmy Smits (54).  President, Senator, lawyer, detective, and a lawyer again (in last season’s Dexter).   What can’t he do?

Dennis Quaid (55).   Although I first saw Dennis Quaid in Innerspace, I really started to appreciate him in Dragonheart (which – bonus – also featured Sean Connery!).   Then again I’m kind of a sucker for the guy who saves the day.  He also seems like a great dad IRL.

Clint Eastwood (79).  I don’t care how old Clint Eastwood is.  He is a damn handsome guy and an excellent actor and director.  Plus he could kick anyone’s ass.  What could be hotter?

Harrison Ford (67).  A perfect way to end a list that is, admittedly, fairly dominated by Star Wars alumni.    Being held by Han Solo might not have been quite enough to get Princess Leia excited, but we absolutely beg to differ.  He seriously just keeps getting better.  Harrison was very deservedly named one of Page Six’s Hottest Jewish Hunks last year!  Lucky Calista Flockhart!

Who’s your favorite actor over 50?  Comment and tell us!

‘The Book of Eli’ Theatrical Trailer Has Nothing Exciting

book-of-eli

Here’s the trailer for the upcoming film The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington, Mila Kunis and Gary Oldman.

As much as I want to be excited about this movie, it just doesn’t look like it breaks any new ground in terms of storytelling. I love the cast, but thats about the only reason I have any interest in seeing this one.

Rosario Dawson is ‘Unstoppable’

rosario-dawson

Rosario Dawson has landed a role in the upcoming film Unstoppable starring Denzel Washington.

Rosario Dawson has signed on to star alongside Denzel Washington and Chris Pine inTony Scott’s action drama Unstoppable.  No mention of what character Dawson would play, but one would assume that she’s the romantic interest or wife of either Washington or Pine.

Rosario Dawson is beautiful and talented, I thoroughly enjoy her work film after film. I worry that this film won’t be all that original though, why does Tony Scott seem to always make movies about trains?

Here’s the trailer for the upcoming film The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington.

I don’t doubt the movie will be good, but this trailer just doesn’t excite me. Good cast, intriguing concept but pretty bland looking movie.

Here are the first images from the new film The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman.

Denzel Washington stars as a loner trekking across a post-apocalyptic America with a mysterious book that could be the key to man’s salvation. Washington, who shed 55 pounds for the role, recalls storms so rough that crews had to don goggles just to see what they were filming. “There’s a reason there’s nothing growing out here,” he says. “It’s land no one wants.”

This movie looks like it’s going to be good, Denzel is always great to watch.

Denzel Washington Saves Boys & Girls Club

denzel-washington-carousel-of-hope-ball

Generous Denzel Washington is a savior – literally!  He made a donation recently that helped the Roswell (New Mexico) Boys & Girls Club keep its doors open.

While he was filming his new movie The Book Of Eli, he learned that “the establishment was in danger of closing due to financial woes.”   He immediately made a $50,000 gift, and encouraged local residents to donate another $5,000.

This is a cause near and dear to Denzel’s heart:  he is the spokesman for the Boys & Girls Club.    I always admire celebrities who put their money where their mouth is!
