Dwayne Johnson Likely Joining ‘G.I. Joe 2′

Dwayne Johnson is in talks to star in the upcoming sequel G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes.

I’m told Johnson is in discussions with Paramount to join G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes. That’s the overhauled sequel that’ll be directed in 3D by Jon M. Chu, who helmed Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Johnson’s role is a character named Roadblock.

I like the Dwayne Johnson, and I liked G.I. Joe when I was a kid, but G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra was awful. I’m really not expecting anything better from the upcoming sequel. If Johnson does take the role he’ll probably be the best feature of the movie. The fact that they have the director of the Justin Bieber documentary doesn’t say a lot for an action movie.

Dwayne Johnson is a ‘Snitch’

Dwayne Johnson is set to star in the upcoming movie Snitch.

…Snitch, a drama based on a true story that stars Dwayne Johnson and is directed by Ric Roman Waugh. The script, by Justin Haythe and Waugh, is inspired by the Frontline documentary Snitch, which follows a suburban dad (Johnson) whose teen son is sentenced to 10 years under mandatory minimum drug laws. To reduce the sentence, the father goes undercover to catch a senior drug dealer.

This role fits Johnson perfectly, I’m sure the action side of the story will be pumped up for him. It’s a really intriguing tale, especially since it’s based on real life. I’m hoping the drama is palatable with Johnson, he needs some good dramatic roles without the over-the-top action.

Dwayne Johnson to Play Charley Pride in Biopic

Dwayne Johnson has been set to play the country singer Charley Pride in an upcoming biopic.

In an interview with the Telegraph Journal, Charley Pride talked about the film that was in development for some time, in which he would have been portrayed by Terrence Howard under the direction of Craig Brewer.

…But then the ball got fumbled. New management took over the studio that was ready to begin site work on it, and a decision was made to put all their resources behindthrillers – fast actioners. They felt that was where the big box office money was then… Now it’s back on track again but with action and comedy star Dwayne Johnson portraying me in the title role.

Definitely not an actor I would expect to play a country music icon, but clearly Charley Pride is all about it. This isn’t something I’ll be following very closely since I’d never heard of Charley Pride until today, not to mention I’m not a country music fan. Hopefully this will be a breakthrough role for Johnson, but I doubt it.

Dwayne Johnson Star in ‘Snitch’

Dwayne Johnson is in negotiations to star in the upcoming action thriller Snitch.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is in negotiations to star in Snitch, an action thriller which Ric Roman Waugh is writing and directing for Exclusive Media…

…The script centers on a suburban father who is hit hard when his teenage son is sentenced to 30 years under mandatory minimum drug laws. In order to reduce his son’s sentence, the father goes undercover to serve up a senior drug dealer. The story is based on a Frontlinedocumentary.

Sounds like a good fit for him, thankfully the story has more depth than just a standard shoot-em-up action flick. I think Dwayne Johnson has proved he can do more than the basic run and gun. I’m glad he’s getting another chance to show more of his acting chops with this one. What do you think? Should he just stick to pure steroids and action?

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Heads Back To WrestleMania

Vince McMahon announced last week that he had a special host for WrestleMania XXVII and boy did he deliver.

McMahon brought back a fan favorite on the Valentine’s Day episode of WWE RAW on USA Network. Wrestling fans have been waiting for his return and now it’s set: Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will take the mat for the annual showdown.

The Rock told the fans last night:

“The Rock has come back to WrestleMania. The most electrifying man of all of entertainment is hosting the most electrifying event of all of entertainment! Do you smell what the rock is cooking?”

Johnson is ready to get back in the ring and in the live chat after the show said:

“My goal is to create an incredible show. The guys have prepared for this night all year and they are going to put on incredible wrestling matches and I am there to not only support their matches but work with the great WWE production team and put on an electrifying show. That means I will be backstage and in the ring creating unforgettable and iconic WrestleMania moments.”

The match will be held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on April 3rd.

First Look: Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel in ‘Fast Five’ (Image)

Here’s the first look at the upcoming film Fast Five starring Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel.

Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead a reunion of returning all-stars from every chapter of the explosive franchise built on speed in Fast Five. In this installment, former cop Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker) partners with ex-con Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) on the opposite side of the law. Dwayne Johnson joins returning favorites Jordana Brewster, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot, Matt Schulze, Tego Calderon and Don Omar for this ultimate high-stakes race.

I’m glad Dwayne Johnson has finally gotten back to his action roots, it’s where he belongs. Now Vin Diesel is trying to get back to being an action star, I’m not so hopeful for him.

Dwayne Johnson Back in Action for ‘Faster’ Trailer

Here’s the first trailer for Dwayne Johnson‘s newest action flick Faster.

Looks like a pretty standard revenge story, hopefully there is more of a hook to it than this trailer shows. In any case it does look interesting, Dwayne Johnson is a great action star.

Here are some brand new on-set images and a video from The Other Guys, which is being shot in New York with Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne Johnson.

Set in New York City, The Other Guys follows Detective Allen Gamble (Ferrell), a forensic accountant who’s more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets, and Detective Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg), who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an embarrassing public incident with his quick trigger finger.  Allen and Terry idolize the city’s top cops, Danson and Manzetti (Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L.Jackson), but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things don’t quite go as planned.

The cast includes Eva Mendes as Sheila, Allen’s incredibly plain wife; Michael Keaton as Captain Mauch; and Steve Coogan as billionaire investment banker David Ershon. Ray Stevenson, Rob Riggle, Damon Wayans Jr. and Lindsay Sloane round out the supporting cast.

This movie doesn’t sound very exciting but that stunt looked great! Hopefully there’s more of a hook to the story than what the basic description gives.

‘Planet 51′ Goes Into Orbit with NASA Blessing (Photo)

planet-51-532x350

The new animated film Planet 51 has officially been given NASA’s blessing, they’re allowing the film to use the NASA logo and they even sent a copy of the film into orbit on the space station.

The film was launched into space aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery on August 28, 2009, and was transferred to the space station by the astronauts a few days later. The film is now cruising high above Earth at 17,500 miles per hour and orbiting the planet every 90 minutes, which is the exact running time of the movie, so it will make a full Earth orbit as the movie premieres on the ground.

In a joint statement, producers Guy Collins and Ignacio Perez said that, “Planet 51 is a fun film for all the family and one of its strong messages, particularly for children, is to not be afraid of the unknown. That is what NASA has been showing the world for 50 years and I hope that our film will encourage children to increase their understanding of the Universe and NASA’s work.”

This is some serious marketing for the animated film, I certainly hope it’s worth the NASA blessing. If I were an astronaut on the space station I think I might be annoyed that all I have to watch is a random little animated film about space. Marketing truly knows no bounds.
