2011 MTV Movie Awards Winners – FULL LIST

The 2011 MTV Movie Awards were held last night and besides being a huge Twilight fan convention with lots of movie studio promotions and marketing, the evening was typically atypical, if ya know what mean.

Host Jason Sudeikis started off with a Hangover II spoof where he gets drunk with Jason Bartha, loses Taylor Lautner and wakes up to a tattooed Eva Mendes.

The comedian’s jokes tackled everything from Arnold Schwarzenegger, his own speculated-about, possible-fatherhood of January Jones baby to Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.

The big surprise – Robert Pattinson busted out his comedic chops for the night. He kissed Taylor Lautner instead of Kristen Stewart for the Best Kiss Award and he gave Reese Witherspoon a dose of his funny when he presented her with the Generation Award.

Referencing their first film together, Vanity Fair, where he played her son but his part was cut, he said to his Water For Elephants costar “Seven years later we worked together on a movie called Water For Elephants and you played my mother…I didn’t cut you out, but I did f*** you.”

Best Well Played Award, I say.

Here is the complete winners list from the evening:

Best Female Performance: Kristen Stewart The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
Best Male Performance: Robert Pattinson The Twilight Sage: Eclipse
Best Movie: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse
Best Kiss: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson
Best Villain: Tom Felton Harry Potter
Best Jaw Dropping Moment: Justin Bieber Never Say Never
Biggest Badass Star: Chloe Moretz
Best Scared as Shit Performance: Ellen Page Inception
Best Line from a Movie: Alexys Nicole Sanchez Grown Ups
Best Breakout Star: Chloe Moretz Kick Ass
Best Comedic Performance: Emma Stone Easy A
Generation Award: Reese Witherspoon

Don’t worry if you missed any of it – MTV will run it into the ground all summer long.

Ellen Page Loved Being An Action Star In ‘Inception’

Ellen Page isn’t exactly known for being an action star, so she’s definitely been cast against type in Christopher Nolan‘s new movie Inception.   She dug the experience, though!  Ellen said:

“I’m definitely involved with the action, which was so enjoyable.  There were times, especially at the beginning, where I felt incredibly out of place and slightly confused as to how I got cast. It was the most action I’ve ever been involved in.  Chris is doing things we’ve never seen before.  Visually, this film is going to be unbelievable.”

Awww, look – our little Juno is growing up!  This movie looks absolutely nuts!  But that’s Christopher Nolan for you.  Check it out in theaters on July 16th.

‘Inception’ Trailer Description and Reactions

Inception Still

Here’s a description of the first trailer for the upcoming Christopher Nolan film Inception starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The new full trailer is not out to the public yet, but this gives us a glimpse.

This evening, I attended a packed advanced screening of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes. About 95% of the time at these screenings, they don’t show trailers before the film. Tonight, I was surprised to find a brand new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception attached. The trailer isn’t actually available for public viewing yet, but you can hit the jump for a brief description and some reactions.

[Note that I cannot vouch for the accuracy of any of the following; I wasn't expecting to see the trailer so I didn't have a chance to grab my notepad.]

Overall, I have to confess: This trailer was almost completely incomprehensible, a series of images and words that left me in kind of a daze, albeit excited as well. The trailer begins quietly and we get a voiceover by Leonardo DiCaprio. According to one IMDB poster, the voiceover dialogue was as follows:

What’s the most resilient form of parasite? An idea. An idea has the power to build a city… to change the world, and re-write all the rules..

In perhaps one of the most spectacular visuals from any trailer I’ve seen in recent memory, we see a city block folding upwards at a right angle into an L shape, while citizens in the foreground look on (a glimpse of Ellen Page is seen at around this time). The trailer continues to throw random images at you without any context or explanation. Leo is at a cafe when there appears to be an explosion in the background that freezes all of a sudden, Matrix-style. According to the same IMDB poster, “At one point a train is driving down a street, plowing through cars. People are fighting mid-air, someone on a motorcycle drives beside a car holding a huge gun. Ken Watanabe looks like a really scary villain from the one smile he gives.” Here’s how random and jam-packed this trailer was: I don’t actually remember any of that stuff happening!

All this stuff is followed by Leo delivering the capper line, referring to the “idea” from earlier:

…and that’s why I need to steal it.

We see Leo in a kitchen holding a gun. Lots of people are apparently in distress, perhaps fighting one another. Lots of extremely slow-motion imagery of water, and water colliding with people.

Sounds cool, even if nothing more is explained about the plot in the trailer I’m still excited to see this movie. Christopher Nolan is a true artist and I’d be happy to watch anything he makes.

Ellen Page Is ‘Hooked’ On Roller Derby

Ellen Page

Ellen Page has gone from awkward pregnant teen in Juno, to awkward teen who joins the roller derby in Whip It. Before the movie, though, Ellen Page didn’t know what roller derby was!

“I didn’t even know roller derby existed until I went as research for this movie — now I’m totally hooked,” explains Ellen. “I can’t keep away now. I even take friends along and they are blown away too. It’s an amazing sport.”

I hope she bring along plenty of helmets and ice packs! Derby can get pretty physical, but tons of fun.

The new girl power roller derby movie directed by Drew Barrymore comes out this Friday, October 2.

What Was I Just Saying About Drew Barrymore & Ellen Page?

drew-barrymore-and-ellen-page-marie-claire

Drew Barrymore and Ellen Page have been looking hella cute and cuddly together all over the place lately.  One sexy  photoshoot wasn’t enough for them, evidently, so they decided to do another.  This time they get touchy-feely for Marie Claire.

The article says that the pair “can’t keep their hands off each other” and that they were “gigglingly pressed thigh to thigh” throughout the interview.  But Drew claims that that, and this shot of them in a lip-lock doesn’t mean anything.  She says:

“Ellen and I are as just silly, fun girls that love each other and people can make out of it what they will. There’s nothing there but fun girlie friendship and affection.”

Which I could totally believe if Drew were also 22 years old.  But isn’t she a bit old to be playing at bisexuality?  The cynic in me says that it’s all an effort to try and drum up publicity for their movie, Whip It.

Drew Barrymore, Why Are You Crying?

drew-barrymore-whip-it-premiere

Drew Barrymore looks awfully distraught here at the premiere of her film, Whip It, at the Toronto Film Festival.  I imagine she just realized what a mistake it was to dye her hair to match her dress.

The dress, by the way, is fab.  Y’all know how much I like vintage looks, and this is a stunner.  Deco lace overlay – swoon!  However, if you’re gonna do vintage, DO VINTAGE!  Don’t mess it up with wanna-be punk hair.  That you haven’t even bothered to brush!

But oh my gosh, don’t Drew and Ellen Page look like a totally cute couple in these pics?  Except that there would be the whole May-December thing going on, and that’s a bit creepy, especially in light of this.    Hmm, I appear to be free-associating now.  I think it’s time for bed!

Rainn Wilson is ‘Super’

rainn-wilsonellenpage

Rainn Wilson is set to star with Ellen Page and Liv Tyler in the upcoming superhero themed movie Super.

James Gunn (Slither) wrote and will direct the project.

Wilson, who last worked with Page in Juno, plays an average guy who takes on the pseudo-superhero alter ego of the Crimson Bolt, after watching his wife (Tyler) fall under the spell of a charming drug dealer. Lacking super powers, he compensates by swinging a trusty wrench.

Rainn Wilson is truly unique, I think he’s going to be around for a very long time. And this movie sounds like a lot of fun.

Drew Barrymore & Friends Play Dirty For Vs. Magazine

drew-barrymore-vs-magazine-21

Sweet piles of Sapphic mayhem!  This has got to be someone’s fantasy.  Drew Barrymore, Ellen Page, Juliette Lewis and Zoe Bell are featured in a hot photoshoot in Vs. Magazine‘s Autumn/Winter 09 issue.

The quartet recreate scenes from their new movie, Whip It – based on the true story of the Texas Roller Derby League.   This is Drew’s directorial debut.  What took her so long to decide to direct, I wonder?  Anyway, this movie looks very interesting, and I can’t wait to see it.   And I guarantee you that after seeing all these photos, you will have a hard time thinking of Ellen Page as sweet little Juno again!  Enjoy!

Nick Wolfwood’s Fall Movie Preview ’09 – ‘Whip It’

wolfwoodfallpreview3

I’m Nick Wolfwood and I’m bringing you a preview of the movies being released in the final months of 2009.

whip_it

Whip It

Starring: Ellen Page, Marcia Gay Harden, Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis, Daniel Stern, Eve

What it’s about: In Bodeen, Texas, an indie-rock loving misfit finds a way of dealing with her small-town misery after she discovers a roller derby league in nearby Austin.

Rating: Rated PG-13 for sexual content including crude dialogue, language and drug material.

Trailer:

Release Date: October 2nd, 2009

Thoughts: I think my biggest interest in this movie is simply the fact that Drew Barrymore directed it, I’m very curious to see how well she put it together after her lifelong experience as an actor. The movie looks like it could be fun, but I doubt I would have much interest otherwise, but I do really like Ellen Page.
