WATCH: Eminem “Space Bound” Video

The video for Eminem‘s new song “Space Bound” is out, and in true Marshall Mathers style, it’s bound to generate some controversy.

First off, I have to admit:  I LOVE this song.  The first time I heard it, I thought, wow, this is probably the closest Em’s ever gotten to a love song.  For about half the track, you wonder if he’s turned into a softy, singing “I’m a space bound rocket ship and your heart’s the moon, and I’m aiming right at you.”  But of course:  cue the pain and drama, and then – because this is Eminem, after all – the darkness and violence start.   The song ends with the girl who “took his breath away” wanting to leave him, him trying to choke her to death, and then giving up and shooting himself in the head.

The video portrays none of the luminous love story evident in the song, and all of the darkness and pain.  Featuring former porn star Sasha Grey as Eminem’s love interest, this video is probably one of the most depressing pieces of film I’ve seen.    But don’t let me decide for you:  check it out for yourself and then drop a comment to let us know what you think.

Antoine Fuqua to Direct Eminem Boxing Flick ‘Southpaw’

Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) is preparing to direct the upcoming Eminem boxing flick Southpaw.

Fuqua is set to come aboard “Southpaw,” a fictional boxing drama written and conceived by “Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter and starring the Detroit rapper, said a source briefed on the film who requested anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to speak about it publicly. The DreamWorks film aims to shoot later this year. Fuqua has no formal deal in place as yet.

Seems like a good fit for this movie, I’m sure he’ll do a good job. Eminem hasn’t done much acting in a while, hopefully he can still pull off a heartfelt performance like he did in 8 Mile all those years ago. Personally I wish it weren’t a boxing movie, I’ve had my fill of those.

Eminem & Motor City Pride In Chrysler 200 Super Bowl Commercial

The new Chrysler 200 debuted an ad during Super Bowl XLV featuring Detroit and Eminem.

The commercial was almost like a documentary in it’s focus on the Motor City and the working class people who shape the Midwestern sensibility of the automotive industry city.

It sold you on not just the car, but the pride of American worker and the residents of Detroit. One of the best spots of the night, don’t you think?

Eminem to Star in ‘Random Acts of Violence’

Eminem is finally returning to the big screen, nine years after 8 Mile with a new film called Random Acts of Violence.

The rapper plans to star in a crime thriller, Random Acts of Violence, for 20th Century Fox, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The project has been in development at Fox for more than four years, and the script reportedly has gone through multiple drafts, with the most recent version said to center on an ex-con just released from prison who is trying to stay on the right side of the law despite pressure from his former comrades. At the same time, the FBI is trying to recruit him to bring down the syndicate.

He’s been busy with his music, but he proved his acting skills in 8 Mile. This sounds like a perfect script for him, that’s probably why he took the part.

Lady Gaga Nabs Best Selling Album Of 2010

Lady Gaga is on top of the world with the largest-selling album of 2010.  Worldwide, her album The Fame Monster sold 5.8 million copies.    That’s a lot of Gaga.

Coming in close behind were Eminem‘s Recovery (an AWESOME album – 5.7 million copies), and Justin Bieber‘s My World 2.0 (5.6 million copies).

(Justin BIEBER?  Seriously??  I guess there’s no accounting for the taste of a bunch of hormone-driven tween girls.   But I digress.)

All three are getting plenty of Grammy love this year.  Eminem has a whopping ten nominations, all well deserved in my opinion; here are the most notable:  Album of the Year (Recovery), Record of the Year (ditto) and Song of the Year (‘Love The Way You Lie‘ feat. Rihanna), and TWO bids in the Best Rap Song category (‘Love The Way You Lie’ and ‘Not Afraid’).   Justin Bieber is up for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album (My World 2.0).  Gaga got six nods, including Best Female Pop Vocal Performance (‘Bad Romance’), Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals (‘Telephone‘ feat. Beyonce), and Best Pop Vocal Album (The Fame Monster).   Get a complete list of the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards nominations here.

Eminem Knows How To Parent

If you’ve ever watched Eminem perform or just listened to the lyrics of some of his songs, you might wonder if this is played out in his personal, as a parent.  The answer to that is, no.

Eminem shared his beliefs with 60 Minutes,

“I’m a parent. I have daughters.  I don’t cuss. I mean, how would I really sound, as a person … walking around my house [saying] ‘Bitch, pick this up,’ you know what I mean?  Profanity around my house? No.  I feel like it’s your job to parent them.”

Eminem Rips On Big Ben Roethlisberger In New Song

Well said.  I have personally never given Eminem’s home life too much thought.  But hearing this is refreshing.  Nice to know the guy has his priorities straight.

Eminem Rips On Big Ben Roethlisberger In New Song

Eminem has made a lot of money ripping on other celebrities in his explicit lyric lined songs.  So, it was no surprise to hear him take a stab at Steelers‘ QB Ben Roethlisberger.

Big Ben Roethlisberger Will NOT Face Any Charges

The line says,

“I’d rather turn this club into a bar room brawl. Get as rowdy as Roethlisberger in a bathroom stall.”

I guess Eminem doesn’t like this song enough to put it on his new album, Recovery though.  But hey, he still made headlines with it!
