That’s right, if you haven’t heard about it already there is a new theme park opening in Orlando, FL this spring called The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Here are the official videos giving a tour of the new park.
It’s amazing how much of a phenomenon the Harry Potter universe has become, this park will be a huge success.

Emma Watson arrived at Brown University on Saturday to begin the “normal experience” of going to college.
She looked every bit your “normal,” average Muggle college student, hanging out on the lawn with classmates during orientation activities. Despite reportedly arriving at Brown by helicopter (?), Emma hopes to blend in with the crowd. She said:
I do hope that it will be only a short time before I am known as “Emma Watson, the student from the UK” rather than “Emma Watson who starred in those Harry Potter films”.
Probably not terribly likely, but let’s all wish her a great first year at college. That first semester can be overwhelming, but also a lot of fun. Good luck, Hermione!

Hermione Granger might not be so much of a Muggle after all! Genealogy experts have discovered that actress Emma Watson, famous for portraying the young wizard, is related to a woman who was convicted of witchcraft in the 16th century.
Joan Playle, Emma’s cousin 14 generations removed, was tried and accused of being a witch in 1592. The usual punishment at the the time was execution, but Playle was only excommunicated.
Anastasia Tyler, who researched the connection, said
“It shows researching your family’s past can have just as many twists and turns as a film blockbuster.”
No wonder playing Hermione comes to naturally to Emma!

Emma Watson definitely seems the brainy type, and that’s not just me confusing her with Hermione Granger. She told Paste magazine that she is planning to attend Brown University in the fall.
Emma plans to major in literature. She’s looking forward to all the reading:
“It sounds so geeky, but I really do like studying and reading, and if I’m not working on Harry Potter, then my greatest relaxation is to sit with a book,” she explained. “That’s how I escape stress—in literature. I always have several books on the go at any one moment, so it’s no good you asking ‘What’s on the bedside table at the moment, Emma?’ because often I can’t even see the table! I think that all that reading is just about the only similarity I have with Hermione, if you ask me”
Emma said that going to college will fulfill a longstanding goal, and also make her feel just like any other young adult.
“I’ve always wanted to go to university and I really want to finish my studies. I think Natalie Portman, when she was younger, said, ‘I’d rather be smart than an actress.’ I definitely feel her vibe. It doesn’t mean that I’m giving up acting or anything dramatic like that. I just want a normal experience for a while.”
Guess who’s going to be the most popular co-ed at Brown next year? Good luck, Hermione!

Poor Harry Potter, I mean Daniel Radcliffe. He is so confused. One day he says how awesome it is that people think he’s gay. The next, he’s singing the praises of girls.
“I’m not particularly a Lothario with women at all, really. I mean, I love women’s company and I love talking to girls - I’ve always had more friends who are girls than guys because I’ve always found them more interesting, for obvious reasons. I love girls, I really do. They’re just sort of heavenly creatures. They’re wonderful.
“But I don’t know, it’s umm… I mean I don’t find it hard to talk to girls. I’m not one of these guys who freezes up with girls - I like having conversations with them - but I don’t think they probably like having conversations with me. I’m quite nerdy and geeky and I’m not particularly cool.”
Why does this sound disingenuous? I thought Harry Potter MADE nerdy and geeky cool! I am sure Daniel can have his pick of fangirls all over the world!

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has broken the record for the most money made worldwide in five days!
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince dominated the worldwide box office its first five days, opening to an estimated $159.7 million in North American–the sixth-biggest domestic opening ever–and $237 million from 54 international markets, a new record. The worldwide take of $396.7 million after five days is also a record, surpassing the $381.7 million made by Spider-Man 3 in 2007 its first five days. The sixth installment of Warner Bros.’ “Harry Potter” franchise cost about $235 million to make. Domestically it opened bigger than its predecessor Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which collected $139.7 million its first five days. “Half-Blood Prince” had the second-biggest start for a movie premiering on a Wednesday, trailing the $200 million five-day opening of last month’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The Dark Knight holds the five-day domestic record with $203.8 million. For the three-day weekend, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince earned $79.5 million in North America, averaging an impressive $18,376 from 4,325 theaters.
That’s just it’s opening weekend, I expect the film will continue in its success. If any of the Potter movies deserve success at the level it’s reaching this is the one.

It’s all about Harry Potter this weekend with the record-breaking opening of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! Seriously, I didn’t think these movies were getting any better, but evidently the movie-going public disagrees.
But remember way back in 2001 when the first movie was released? Before J.K. Rowling had had the chance to write so many freakishly long books? Back when the three stars, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson were still just kids, and no one could have known just how fantastically rich and popular they would become? Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has broken the Japanese record for a Wednesday opening ever.
TOKYO — “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” bowed in Japan on Wednesday with $3.57 million on 840 screens — besting “War of the Worlds” for the biggest-ever Wednesday opening.
This number was particularly impressive since Wednesday is Ladies Day at Japanese theaters, meaning women pay 1,000 yen ($10.69) for an adult admission, compared with the standard price of $19.24. Women account for the bulk of the “Potter” aud in Japan.
Women pay less on Wednesdays in Japan? That’s awesome, now there is a culture that showss appreciation for females! This movie is raking in the cash this weekend.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opened today, and if you went to see it you have already seen Ron Weasley’s big make out session with his girlfriend. What was it like for actor Rupert Grint to film that scene?
“It was quite intense. Ron’s new girlfriend, Lavender, kind of attacks him. I had only really just met Jessie Cave, who plays her, and suddenly, we were kissing up a storm. I was quite worked up about it because we’re in the middle of a huge crowd, and it’s never really a comfortable thing to do right in front people. When Daniel [Radcliffe] got kissed in the last film, he was, like, totally alone.”
And how did Harry Potter support his co-star during the filming of that scene?
“Daniel wasn’t great really when I did my kissing scene. I guess he hadn’t forgotten I’d teased him when he got kissed. He was sort of standing at the back of the set trying to make me laugh. He was a little bit of a creep.”
I love how Rupert talks about “getting kissed” like it’s something that happens TO you rather than something you participate in. Then again, if I recall the book correctly, Lavender really does kind of go after him, so maybe that’s an accurate description after all.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince managed to set the record for the most money ever made from a midnight opening, $22.2 million!
Warner Bros. Pictures’ Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince earned an estimated $22.2 million for its 3,003 midnight screenings, beating the $18.5 million midnight runs by the studio’s own The Dark Knight and the $16.9 million earned by Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
The sixth installment continues its first day of release in 4,275 domestic locations and will expand to 4,350 theaters on Friday.
Last month, Michael Bay’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen grossed $16 million in midnight runs, also on a Wednesday.
That’s a lot of money! I have little doubt that this film will be the biggest money maker of the summer. Potter obviously hasn’t lost any popularity.

Daniel Radcliffe is such a target of gay rumors you would think someone had taped a sign that says “GAY!” on his back. Some guys might not like being talked about like that , but not Harry Potter. He told moviefone.com:
I grew up around gay people my entire life, basically, that’s possibly why I’m quite camp, and some people think I’m gay when I meet them, which I think is awesome. It’s always good to keep them guessing [laughs]. I don’t go on any blogs or chats or anything, but my friends are demons for them, and apparently someone said “Daniel Radcliffe is gay. He’s got a gay face!” [Laughs] I really don’t know what a gay face is.
Well, Dan, a “gay face” would be the one who admits to having a crush on a guy… or the one who says he’d like to play a drag queen… actually, no, I’m just kidding. Although one has to wonder about the “keeping them guessing” part… Harry, what are you (not) telling us?! Just come out already!

Bill Nighy (Underworld, Pirates of the Caribbean) is going to play a part in the final two Harry Potter movies, but we don’t know if he’s playing the character Scrimgeour or somebody else.
It’s been a running thing with the actor where he has often dropped hints in interviews that he was one of the few British actors not to be cast in a role in any of the previous six films, so his nudges finally paid off.
“I don’t think I’m allowed to say it but I’m going to be in the next Harry Potter film,” he told the newspaper. “I won’t say which character, but he’s a goodie. I just got the gig.”
The Leaky Cauldron reported this casting on their “PotterCast” a few weeks back and they believe the veteran actor will be playing Rufus Scrimgeour, a veteran Auror in the Ministry of Magic who spends most of his time fighting Dark Wizards.
The first half of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is scheduled for release on November 19, 2010 with the second half scheduled for July 15, 2011.

What it’s about: As Harry Potter begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he discovers an old book marked mysteriously “This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince” and begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort’s dark past.
Rating: PG-13
Thoughts: After the extremely long delay it will be good to finally see the film. Only two left after this one; what will the Potter fans do with themselves?
