Helen Mirren has got a great body and to prove it, she’s won the title Body of the Year.

The 66 year-old actress beat out the likes of Pippa Middleton, Elle MacPherson and Jennifer Lopez in a poll conducted by L.A. Fitness gyms.

Dame Mirren won with over 17% while second place MacPherson took 10% of the votes.

“Helen Mirren’s victory in our Best Body poll illustrates how, when it comes to body maintenance and well-being, age really is nothing but a number,” said the chain’s marketing director, Tony Orme.

“It’s great to see the public celebrating bodies of all shapes and sizes, and proving that you really can look fabulous over 40 and 50.”

The men’s winner was soccer stud David Beckham who grabbed a 21% total over Daniel Craig and Johnny Depp.

Helen Mirren just can’t help it:  she’s smoking hot in whatever she wears, even when it’s the Union Jack.  Which is exactly how she appears in the August 2011 issue of Esquire.  Snapped by British fashion photographer Perou, Helen wraps herself in the British flag for a fun, sexy portrait.   She also shares a few quick insights:

On the best compliment she’s ever received: Right after winning the Oscar, (Best Actress in 2007, for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in The Queen),  when everyone was going home, they let these little gold Oscary shapes flutter down from the ceiling. Leonardo DiCaprio came over, bowed down, and kissed my hand. It was the most fabulous moment — such a lovely gesture. He didn’t say anything.

On the best phase of life: One’s twenties. It’s a shame because you’re your most gorgeous and you’re physically in peak condition. But it’s actually when you’re most insecure and full of self-doubt. When you don’t know what’s going to happen, it’s frightening.

On playing possum on film and stage: Some people are brilliant at dying. It’s hard to stop breathing, and inevitably you get an itchy nose or something. The trick of dying onstage is to make sure you do it behind the sofa or in a dark corner.

Helen Mirren walked the red carpet in a most fashionable way for the London premiere of Arthur on Tuesday, April 19th.

Dame Mirren opted for a long leopard print Dolce & Gabbana gown with a leather motorcycle jacket worn over the designer frock. The jacket even had matching leopard print cuffs. The actress knows how to work a look for the photographers and make it seem effortless.

Costarring with Russell Brand as the titular character in the remake of the 80s version starring Dudley Moore, Mirren said she was not a fan of the original movie because of how it handeled alcoholism.

“I’ve seen the original. I didn’t like it. I thought the cast were great but I didn’t like the idea of the alcoholic,” she said.

The actress said working with Brand has been great fun for her and she has nothing but praise for the funnyman.

“He’s fantastic to work with. All the time funny. Very brilliant. I spent most of my time with him laughing and being charmed,” she said.

Dame Helen Mirren is not shy about pushing boundaries, and she’s not shy about her body either.   She appears in the current issue of New York Magazine, in a bathtub, in nothing but her birthday suit.  And mostly in the context of her upcoming movie, Love Ranch (based on the Mustang Ranch in Reno, NV), Mirren talks a lot about sex, sexuality and power.  Calling herself a “trailblazer” for claiming her sexuality on her own terms as she came up in the entertainment world, she praises current young stars who do the same:

“I’m thrilled young girls are claiming their sexuality for themselves.  I love bold women: Madonna and Scarlett Johansson—sexy and gorgeous, but not only that. And Miley Cyrus—fantastic! And Lady Gaga. I love the way she’s elevated pop to performance art, or dragged performance art down to pop, or maybe made a wonderful amalgam of the two.”

Stunner Penelope Cruz tops a list of the ten most beautiful women in the world.  The list was compiled by British clothing maker Wizard Jeans.  Why did a maker of slimming, shapewear type jeans compile such a list?  I’m sure I don’t know. It’s wide-ranging, and is getting lots of buzz in the UK for choosing several older women, including bodacious bikini babe Helen Mirren.  So here goes:

Oscar nominee Helen Mirren has a little bit of the freak in her.  Who knew?!  She spoke frankly with the Times of London and revealed a lot about herself.

She doesn’t work out to keep that ridiculously hot bikini bod.

“I should be going to the gym now but I just don’t want to do it. I don’t do anything like that regularly at all. But because I’m filming, I should.”

She’s totally pro-plastic surgery (which she does not need, hello), and not just a little nip-tuck, either.  If she ever goes down that road, she says:

“It’s the full-on for me! Suck it all up, tie it up, and then cut if all off!”

And perhaps most titillating, Helen talks about what turns her on:

“I don’t mind being sexy, but on my terms. To this day, I love sexuality. I love the art of sexuality. I love Lady Gaga and the performance of sexuality. The mysterious, the artistic and the slightly perverse. I’m interested in all that.”

There are some amazing actors in this film, making it far more interesting to me than it would be otherwise. Helen Mirren is one of the most worthy Oscar winners in recent years for her performance in The Queen.
