Hilary & Haylie Duff’s Dad Sent To The Pokey
What’s up with the young celebrities’ dads getting on the wrong side of the law lately? In a scene decidedly not out of a Disney Channel show, Hilary Duff’s dad has been jailed for contempt, “accused of violating a court order prohibiting him from selling assets without the consent of his estranged wife.”
Bob and Susan Duff have been embroiled in a nasty divorce for two and a half years. Susan had gone to court asking for $25,000 to pay for Hilary’s 21st birthday party and gift next month.
“I know he’s a millionaire, and he’s got the funds,” Susan testified earlier. She added that Hilary was “emotionally upset by the abandonment of her father.”
Why did Susan want to spend $25K on Hilary’s birthday? It’s the same amount that was spent on sister Haylie’s 21st birthday a few years ago. Susan’s attorney Marshall Davis Brown Jr. asked Bob “if he wanted Hilary to receive a comparable gift to Haylie for her 21st birthday.”
“Yes,” Bob replied.
“You’re not mad at Hilary, are you?” Brown asked.
Bob hesitated, and Brown withdrew the question.
Not to be left out of the ugly banter, Bob’s attorney Robert Piro “asked Susan if her “adult millionaire daughter” would be upset if she did not receive an expensive gift and party for her birthday.”
Bob was led away in handcuffs, sentenced to ten days in jail, and was ordered to pay $12,500 for the party. He was also ordered to “pay $367,537 he earned from selling stocks last month into a court repository.”
Regarding having her husband jailed, Susan said, “This isn’t what I wanted.” However, the Houston Chronicle reports that she is not satisfied with the amount of support she receives:
The $10,000 her husband pays her in interim support each month is “not even enough to pay my own bills” and certainly not enough to afford such expensive birthday treats, Susan testified. She said she has to rely on Hilary for financial help to pay her lawyers and other bills.
If she’s relying on Hilary to support her AND pay for her divorce, why doesn’t Mom have Hilary pay for her own birthday party? This looks to me like she’s just trying to punish her soon to be ex husband and using the kids to do it. $10K a month is not enough to pay the bills? Get. A. Job!
