‘Arrested Development’ Heading Back To TV & A Movie Is In The Works

Arrested Development fans are getting closer to the long-awaited movie of the cancelled series and on Sunday they were given even more good news.

A fourth season – a mini season – is now coming together as creator Mitch Hurwitz confirmed that he is working on the project at the New Yorker Festival on October 2nd.

“Just creatively, I have been working on the screenplay for a long time and found that as time went by, there was so much more to the story,” explained Hurwitz. “In fact, where everyone’s been for five years became a big part of the story.

“So in working on the screenplay, I found even if I just gave five minutes per character to that back story, we were halfway through the movie before the characters got together.”

Although fans are quick to hop on to any morsel – it’s not a done deal. Hurwitz said he and director/producer Ron Howard were at “80 percent” of the way to a definite answer on the film, but there is a caveat:

“We don’t completely own the property, there are business people involved and studios and that kind of thing,” Hurwitz said of the snag.

Star Jason Bateman tweeted to fans more definitive news.

“It’s true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early ’13. VERY excited!” Bateman said.

Reuniting Bateman, Will Arnet, Jeffrey Tambor, Portia de Rossi, Michael Cera and all the cast would be quite a feat but hopefully they can make it happen.

Jason Bateman Joins Vince Vaughn for ‘Insane Laws’

Jason Bateman is set to join Vince Vaughn in the upcoming comedy Insane Laws.

Universal Pictures is in early talks with Jason Bateman to star with Vince Vaughn in The Insane Laws…

…The plan is for Bateman and Vaughn to play longtime best friends, who’ve shared everything, from college to the time both got married and had kids at the same time. Cut to when those kids are away at college, and, unbeknownst to their parents, falling in love. The best friend relationship is sorely tested when the daughter of Vaughn’s character gets pregnant. The actors just did a read-through of the material, and it could be in production by the fall.

This storyline doesn’t seem all that compelling or funny, but the duo of Vaughn and Bateman could be a great formula for this comedy. It just seems like there is some kind of additional hook that this movie needs to have to bring in the audience, maybe they are just holding off on release of too much information before everything gets locked down. I’m sure we’ll hear a lot more info as the film draws closer to shooting.

Red Band ‘Change-Up’ Trailer with Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman Gets Raunchy

Here’s the red band trailer for the upcoming comedy The Change-Up starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman.

This movie looks pretty funny and incredibly raunchy. Hopefully it’s a lot more than shock factor humor that pulls in the laughs. This is from the same director as Wedding Crashers which I did find pretty funny. The pairing of Reynolds and Bateman seems great, they clearly have comic chemistry.

First Look: ‘The Change-Up’ Starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman (Image)

Here’s the first image from the upcoming comedy The Change-Up starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman.

David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) directs, with Jason Bateman playing a family man (married to Leslie Mann) while Ryan Reynolds plays a would-be actor and lifelong bachelor. The two have been friends for a long time, then somehow end up  switching bodies.

Not a completely original idea, but it’s similarities to Freaky Friday seem to end with the body switching concept. This movie is going for an R-rating with plenty of adult humor. It has a lot of potential, these guys are funny!

Jason Bateman Talks ‘Arrested Development’ and ‘Hancock 2′

Jason Bateman talked to Coming Soon about his roles in Hancock 2 and Arrested Development. On Hancock 2:

“I only know what I’ve read,” Bateman said. “No one has contacted me or anybody that represents me to ask if we were interested. I don’t know anything about it. It’s surprising to me that Variety would write that story because they’re usually pretty well vetted before they report something and that was completely false. I haven’t heard anything about it. The whole thing about me being on board could not be farther from the truth. I would love to be a part of the film, but I haven’t heard anything about it.”

On Arrested Development:

“It’s still being written and my guess is that is will be shot some time next year,” Bateman added. “I have a feeling that Mitch [Hurwitz] is halfway done writing it. We’ll probably shoot it middle of next year and then for however long things take to get cut and marketed, so maybe the first part of 2011 I would imagine. That’s just a guess.”

I’m betting the Arrested Development movie is going to be really funny, much like the show was. As far as Hancock 2 is concerned, I don’t think there are many people who even care if it’s in development, the first one left a lot to be desired.

‘Hancock 2′ Becomes a Reality with Smith and Theron

hancock460june30

That’s right, Hancock 2 is being made, if you want it or not. Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman are all returning too!

Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman are gearing up to reunite for the sequel to Columbia Pictures’ “Hancock,” with Peter Berg set to helm the action-comedy.

Berg disclosed the news at the Toronto Film Festival where he said, “Everybody’s going to come back for a sequel.”

The director has been working with TV scribes Adam Fierro (“24,”"Dexter”) and Glen Mazzara (“The Shield”) to pen the script. Fierro was a producer on “The Shield.”

This is certainly surprising news to me, I really didn’t think the first movie was all that impressive and it wasn’t exactly a mega-hit. Hopefully the new script will be more than a franchise milker.

Tropical ‘Couples Retreat’ Trailer

couplesretreat

Here’s the first trailer for the upcoming film Couples Retreat starring Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Kristen Bell, Jason Bateman, Kristin Davis and Faizon Love.

I’m not jumping out of my seat on this one, but it seems like it could be pretty funny. It’s a pretty good cast, just not the most fresh concept. It reminds me a little bit of an old episode of I Love Lucy.
