Star couple Beyonce and Jay-Z sure spread the love around last week.  They had a $1,200 lunch at Nello’s in New York, which is extravagant enough, right?  Their $500 tip was just the icing on the cake.  Lucky waiter!!

I love stories of celebrity big tippers.  I love that some folks will share their enormous wealth so spontaneously!  By the way, what kind of lunch costs over a grand?  White truffles, lobster salad, and vintage bubbly.  Bon appetit!

Jay Leno is getting ready for his prime time debut on September 14th.  The Jay Leno Show will be a wonderful change for NBC’s usual lineup.

To get things kicked off just right, Leno has a trio of big stars sert to perform on ‘opening night’.  Rihanna, Jay-Z, and Kanye West are going to rev it up for Jay and set the ratings bar high.  They will be singing Run This Town from Jay-Z’s album, The Blueprint 3.

I think this is a great choice for Jay Leno.  He’s going to draw a huge crowd of viewers right off the get-go.

What do you do if you’re an R&B star and find yourself in London on a random Tuesday night?  If you’re Jay-Z and Rihanna, you go out and run up an $11,000 bar tab is what you do.  A source who glimpsed them at the Vendome nightclub spilled:

“They had two of the VIP booths, so all of their people could mingle together. Jay–Z ordered countless bottles of Dom Pérignon champagne along with vodka for both tables and the party really gathered pace.”

How many people did they HAVE in their parties?  Even if they were ordering only top shelf stuff, you’ve got to drink a hell of a lot of it to get to $11K.  I wonder if Ri-Ri’s folks were celebrating Chris Brown finally apologizing for assaulting her?

So while Jay-Z doesn’t have a Twitter page, thus lacking random meanderings, he does occasionally blog for RapRadar.com - which this weekend afforded him the opportunity to blog about a recent concert billing alongside Kelly Clarkson and Third Eye Blind at the University of Arizona.

Unusual? Maybe - but as Jay himself says, “There’s NO such thing as black and white music, only good and bad music.”

“On the show as well were Third Eye Blind and Kelly Clarkson … I thought that had to be the oddest pairing ever, but soon realized it’s what I’ve always professed. There’s NO such thing as Black music or White music only Good or Bad music.”

Jay said it was cool to like different things that are outside of your comfort zone. He said this also applies to the world around us and not just music.

“If you’re African American you can have a Jewish friend.” He brought up his own friendship with former Def Jam head/ current Warner Music CEO Lyor Cohen. “The Jew fro and the BLUEprint fro [Afro] are the SAME thing.”

Jay added that he would like to see diverse concerts such as this happen more often, outside of the one or two festivals per year and big radio station summer concerts like Zootopia, held by New York’s Z-100, among many others.

“I’m putting that into the universe,” Jay blogged, adding, “Next up, [a concert with] Taylor Swift and Uncle Murda!”

Beyonce appears on the cover of Ebony’s April 2009 issue looking particularly fierce.   In the cover article, she spills a bit about life with husband Jay-Z, and her youthful vision of retiring at age 21.

On what drives her hubby crazy:

“I’m a little messy. Oh, yeah. Whenever I’m out in public, I have to be put together. When I get home, I rebel against it and I don’t want to take care of anything. I drop it. I’m relaxed. I don’t have any shoes on. No makeup. My shoes are left at the door. My purse is in the kitchen. I think that is the most difficult thing for him. He’s very, very organized.”

On her statement to Ebony some years ago that she would retire at age 21:

“That sounded completely ambitious and ridiculous” back then, she says now, adding that she actually could have quit at that young age. But she says, “I’ve worked so hard on my craft, and I will never stop. I will never retire. I love it way too much.”

While U2 may be a band that’s so iconic they’ve inspired thousands themselves, they’re not above publicly declaring inspiration from two of hip-hop’s biggest names - Kanye West and Jay-Z.

Learning from West is easy because he has what the rockers call “the whole equation.”

“I think with Kanye, his understanding of what music, about what fashion, about what politics is — they are all each other,” Bono explained. “Understanding the whole equation is understanding where your song sits in the world. Kanye knows where it sits.”

“This is similar for Jay-Z. He just zones in on the text and he hangs onto the text, the words. That’s his life,” Bono said. “I learned that my melodies — because they were more operatic — my melodies were spoiling my chances to use a certain vocabulary.”

Beyonce recently spoke to the L.A. Times about making home-cooked meals, which she doesn’t get to do that often because of her schedule.  It’s no surprise then that her favorite meal to cook is a total time saver:   

“I don’t have time. I know it’s in my genes. And I have good seasoning instincts. I always watched [my mom]. But it’s such a big deal for me to cook. I can’t just do it. I have to have everything written out. I have to have my mom on the phone. Houston, we have a problem. It’s a big production. When I have a rare day off, I think, do I really feel like going through that? I do cook some Hamburger Helper, actually. Three days ago. I stir it up and it’s like a gourmet meal. So that was my cooking moment. I went to the grocery store and picked my vegetables and all of that.”

I can’t really argue with the fact that Hamburger Helper is a great time saving meal.  For some reason, I’m betting Beyonce’s hubby Jay-Z loves it.  And I love that she admits it, it makes her more real.  But I’m wondering whether it’s the kind of food Sasha Fierce would cook?

Beyonce has kept mum about her marriage with Jay Z for so long and now finally Essence magazine has been able to get the information for us all.

“I feel that, especially now, with the Internet and paparazzi and camera phones, it’s so difficult to maintain mystery,” she told the magazine. “And that’s so important. Even in a relationship, I feel like not being that accessible is really important. If you think about Prince or Michael Jackson, or any superstars, you couldn’t see them when they got off their planes or when they got out of the pool and didn’t comb their hair. It’s great that people see we’re not perfect. But it’s almost impossible to have superstars now, because people will never get enough.”

Beyonce also let it slip that it was a joint agreement that let their marriage be kept a secret from everyone…

“We decide everything,” she told the magazine. “My word is my word. What Jay and I have is real. It’s not about interviews or getting the right photo op. It’s real.”

Despite saying she was going to get in trouble for talking about the wedding she went on to say that it was small and intimate. And having her day wasn’t important because she’s had her day so many times. And what about wedding rings?

Instead of just getting wedding rings, the couple also got matching tattoos of the Roman numeral four on their ring fingers, so if they take off the bands for work or to go swimming, a mark of some form is still there. (The number four is special to the couple because her birthday is September 4, his birthday is December 4, and their wedding anniversary is April 4.)

But, there is one thing that Beyonce is clear about, sorta, she wants kids….someday.

It’s about time she just came out and talked about it. Stretching it on and on isn’t always cool either. Before when anyone would ask if they were married she would shut down the interview. That’s not mature either.

Mr. & Mrs. Carter are going on tour together as soon as early 2009 many industry insiders are buzzing about this morning. Jay-Z and Beyonce will be pretty much conquering the world with a joint tour timed with the release of both of their new albums. Jigga has been at work on the alleged Blueprint III, and the early release of the single “Beautiful Nightmare” (that didn’t really fare well in clubs or on radio), Miss Knowles-Carter herself also has something on-deck. Jay’s certainly no stranger to joint tours either (note: his failed Best of Both Worlds stint with R. Kelly, and this year’s Heart of the City tour with Mary J. Blige).

I’m almost as excited about this possibility as I was when I saw Thundercats on Ice. Almost.

We pretty much all know by now that Beyonce and Jay-Z were married in April.   Although they were recently spotted wearing wedding rings, neither Jay nor Beyonce have talked about it at all until now.  The rapper speaks in the latest issue of Vibe.

“I just think it’s really a part of your life that you gotta keep to yourself.  You have to have something sacred to you and the people around you…I shared so much of my life… I should have something to hold on to.”

This is the closest we’re probably ever going to get to a confirmation, folks!  So I guess official congratulations are in order to the couple.

The album that’s been over six years in the making (not implying in the least bit that Dr. Dre himself has been sitting idly by on the project for those six years), Detox is finally seeing a late 2008 release.   He’s no longer pudgy (debuting a slimmed-down and beefed-up frame at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards), and while his track list may look chunked up with cameos, don’t expect the material to be your typical MC love fest.

“I was starting to doubt it myself, and then I went up in there and he played so much music for me it knocked my head off. … I see what he got them waiting for. It’s on and poppin’,” said Snoop Dogg who says he recorded material for the album, along with 50 Cent, Jay-Z, and Lil’ Wayne.

No word yet on whether Eminem will make this third studio album from the hip-hop icon.

“I’d describe it as the most advanced rap album musically and lyrically we’ll probably ever have a chance to listen to,” said one who surprisingly had the chance to listen to the project, now-bankrupt producer Scott Storch.
