FIRST LOOK: Johnny Depp & Armie Hammer In ‘The Lone Ranger’

Thank you Jerry Bruckheimer!

The super producer gave fans a twitter peek at the often stalled, but now moving forward flick The Lone Ranger.

The photo shows Johnny Depp in full make-up and costume as Tonto, standing behind Armie Hammer‘s suave-looking Lone Ranger.

Depp, 48, has spoken of his Native American heritage and how he wanted this version of Tonto to be more accurate and less of a stereotype than the original TV series character.

“I liked Tonto, even at that tender age, and knew Tonto was getting the unpleasant end of the stick here,” Depp said. “That’s stuck with me. And when the idea came up [for the movie], I started thinking about Tonto and what could be done in my own small way try to — ‘eliminate’ isn’t possible — but reinvent the relationship, to attempt to take some of the ugliness thrown on the Native Americans, not only in The Lone Ranger, but the way Indians were treated throughout history of cinema, and turn it on its head.”

Depp rallied for his Pirates and Rango director, Gore Verbinski to helm this although it hit a script snag. The movie was temporarily shelved in August of 2011 but the film is back on track.

‘Shattered Union’ Video Game Coming to the Big Screen

1-250px-shattered_union

The video game Shattered Union is being adapted into a feature film, J. Michael Straczynski (Ninja Assassin) is writing it.

Jerry Bruckheimer is plotting a civil war at Disney, tapping J. Michael Straczynski to adapt 2K Games’ “Shattered Union.”In the game, states secede from the U.S. and form their own governments that wage a civil war against each other after Washington, D.C., is wiped out in a nuclear blast and chaos ravages the nation.

Players control one of the warring group of states — the California Commonwealth, Republic of Texas and New England Alliance are three of the six — or a European peacekeeping unit sent to reunify America.

Civil war, doesn’t sound like the kind of thing people are going to rush out to see. I could be wrong, but it seems like Americans these days are more in the mood for fantasy, sci-fi and other distractions from reality to get our minds OFF of war.

Jerry Bruckheimer Producing ‘World War Robot’

jerry_bruckheimer__2_1world-war-robot

Famed producer Jerry Bruckheimer is making World War Robot.

The producer has snapped up feature rights to the graphic novel “World War Robot” from IDW Publishing.

Story, penned by Ashley Wood and recounted in war-diary form by participants on both sides, centers on a small band of humans and robots facing off in a battle on Earth, the moon and Mars.

Don’t tell me, is Michael Bay a prospective director? Unless he’s going to busy with Transformers 3, I’m sure he’ll be one of the options. In any case it should be an interesting comic adaptation.

Bruckheimer Talks ‘Pirates 4′ ‘Lone Ranger’ and ‘National Treasure 3′

Jerry Bruckheimer the mega-producer of thePirates of the Caribbean films, sat down to talk about upcoming projects likePirates of the Caribbean 4,National Treasure 3andThe Lone Ranger.

As far as getting all of these new projects off the ground, Bruckheimer joked, “That’s why I can’t spend a lot of time here. We have a lot of things,” and mentioned some of the projects he’s actively working on. “We’re doing another ‘National Treasure’ so we’re working on that…

As far as approaching the sequels for “National Treasure” and “Pirates of the Caribbean,” Bruckheimer says that both are having scripts written. “We’ve sat with the writers and we’re working up the story and plotlines right now. They’re in the process of finishing ‘The Lone Ranger’ so they’re working on both of those simultaneously, same set of writers, Elliot and Rossio, who did all three ‘Pirates’ and worked on ‘National Treasure (2)’”

“I think they’re pushing towards 2012,” Bruckheimer told us about the possible release date for this fourth “Pirates” movie. “Hopefully we can make it we’ll see.”

All of this news is cool but anything coming of it is such a long way off, 2012? Thats when a NEW presidential election will be happening, and the summer olympics in London! Lets hope we get some good stuff before then.
