J.J. Abrams is Making a ‘Micronauts’ Movie

Micronauts

According to the Wall Street Journal J.J. Abrams (director of Star Trek) is bringing Micronauts to the big screen.

J.J. Abrams, who created the TV show “Lost” and directed this summer’s “Star Trek” film, is in discussions to produce a movie about Japanese toy line Micronauts, which Hasbro just acquired.

Not very detailed news, but if you were a fan of Micronauts it may be exciting for you. I personally hadn’t even heard of Micronauts until now. I’d rather Abrams just focus on the next Star Trek.

‘Star Trek’ Deleted Interrogation Scene (Video)

trekbluray

Here’s a scene that was deleted from the theatrical version of the film Star Trek.

This scene as well as others will be on the DVD and Blu-ray release of the the film which is coming on November 17th, 2009. I see why the scene was deleted, not that it’s bad, but it just doesn’t feel like it fits with the rest of the film quite as well. It feels a little too campy.

J.J. Abrams Talks ‘Star Trek 2′

star_trek_03_1024

J.J. Abrams talked to MTV about the Star Trek sequel and how to approach it. Here’s the audio clip of him talking about it.

What’s the bigger challenge: rebooting an iconic sci-fi franchise that had lapsed into disrepair, like an interstellar spacecraft whose warp drive missed a couple of tune-ups and could no longer handle faster-than-light-speed travel? Or following up that triumphant reboot with a flick that not only proves to be a worthy successor, but which sets fanboys’ geek phasers on “Oh, hell yeah!”?

Such is the conundrum facing “Star Trek” director J.J. Abrams and his creative team as they begin to brainstorm ideas for a sequel to May’s $258 million-grossing hit. “The first one did what it was required to do, which was bring the family together and reset,” Abrams explained in an interview with MTV News. “It was a bridge, no pun intended, between what came before, what the ‘Star Trek’ people knew and the ‘Star Trek’ of now. And that was the heavy lifting of the first film.”

After the phenomenal success of the first film, the pressure is higher than ever to make a worthy sequel and continue the story on the level it was rebooted at. I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do next.

‘Star Trek’ Sequel Likely by 2012

startrek2009

When asked by Coming Soon about details on a sequel to the mega hit Star Trek, the  writers of the film said 2012 is the likely year for the release of the next film. Check it out!

At the 2009 Screenwriting Expo which is being held in downtown Los Angeles this year, ComingSoon.net asked Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the writers of Star Trek, if they could give us any updated info as to where the storyline will be going in the next film. While they’re still very much in the beginning stages and couldn’t give us many details, they did give a possible release date year.

“We’re rereading some of our favorite ‘Star Trek’ novels now and watching the original series again. The honest answer is we don’t know yet,” Orci said. “We think it’s going to be a 2012 release, but I’m not sure,” he continued.

“Originally we thought we were going to have to have the script in by Christmas, but the release changed so certainly within the next eight months I’d say,” Kurtzman told us.

Any news coming down the pipe about a sequel to this film is hot news for the whole new generation of Trekkies. Although they probably wouldn’t call themselves that, the new film has created a brand new mass of Star Trek fans that are eagerly awaiting the sequel. I really loved the new film, I’m looking forward to seeing what they do next with the story.

‘Mission Impossible 4′ Finally Gets Writers

mission-impossible

Writers have been hired to write Mission Impossible IV.

Paramount Pictures and producers Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams have officially lit the fuse on “Mission: Impossible IV,” setting Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec to write the screenplay.

While those scribes aren’t big feature names yet, they join a roster of writers who transitioned from Abrams TV series creations to pen the features he directs and produces through his Bad Robot banner.

Applebaum and Nemec spent four seasons with Abrams as co-exec producers of “Alias,” and they will script “M:I 4″ based on a story Abrams wrote with them.

Good to hear they are finally moving forward. I wonder what it will be about?

‘Mission Impossible 4′ Coming in 2011

Mission Impossible 4 is indeed on its way, but we won’t see it until 2011.

Now, Variety adds that Paramount Pictures is targeting a 2011 release for the sequel.

The trade adds that work on Mission: Impossible IV would inevitably be delayed by the busy schedules of the participants.

2011 isn’t that far off, but long enough to keep me from getting too excited about it. Abrams said:

“I am incredibly honored that Tom Cruise has invited me back as producer on Mission Impossible 4. Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing.it’s not a literal sequel.”

Interesting, if it’s not a literal sequel will it keep the name Mission Impossible 4? Only time will tell.

Tom Cruise is Back in ‘Mission Impossible 4′

mission-impossible

Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams are back for another Ethan Hunt adventure with Mission Impossible 4.

Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams are reuniting for Mission: Impossible 4! Tom is on board as producer, and has invited J.J. on to his team. Abrams was actually the director of 2006’s MI 3, but there’s no word yet on whether he’ll be directing this one as well.

J.J. tells TV Guide, “I am incredibly honored that Tom has invited me back as a producer on Mission: Impossible 4. Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing,” he added.

Good news! I really enjoy these movies. I’m very curious as to what kind of international intrigue they can concoct this time, not to mention gadgets.

This movie really seems to have a great visual style, it seems very Sci-Fi, but not too much like the previous movies.

Paramount is Keeping ‘Star Trek’s J.J. Abrams Until 2013

sgg-063111paramount

Apparently Paramount Pictures loves J.J. Abrams, director of the new film Star Trek. They are keeping him and his production company under contract until 2013.

Paramount Pictures, a unit of Viacom Inc, today announced an extension of its agreement with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions to run through 2013. This continues the first-look relationship originally started with Abrams and long-time colleague, producer Bryan Burk, in July 2006.

Star Trek will probably be Paramount’s most successful film of this year, so this move to keep him makes a lot of sense. I wonder what the next project will be?
