We all know Joaquin Phoenix has been acting rather strangely lately.   And I, for one, have wondered what the heck is wrong with him.  Can he really be trying to just be himself, as he claimed earlier this month?   Or is there something else going on?   One psychiatrist says that Phoenix could definitely be mentally ill.

Admitting that he does not treat the Walk The Line star, Dr. Paul Dobranksy says:

Phoenix has displayed “socially inappropriate behavior” during his recent bizarre public appearances…There is something wrong… And it’s beyond drug use.”

Dr. Dobransky so firmly believes that Phoenix could be truly sick that he was “offended” at Ben Stiller’s parody of the actor at the Oscars.

“It struck me as potentially beating down on the mentally ill. The jury is not exactly in on what is happening. “Whatever it is, it’s not funny—whether it’s drug abuse, mental illness coming on or the clumsiest attempt ever at a career change.”

However, Phoenix’s publicist, Susan Patricola, says it’s hogwash.

“How absolutely inappropriate for a doctor who has no personal interaction or relationship with someone to diagnose them…Hope they spelled his name right! Another 15-minute expert is born! Astonishingly inappropriate!”

I agree, actually.  Yeah, he’s acting weird, but to even attempt a diagnosis when you’ve never even met the person is a pretty sketchy.  However, I do think that he’s got to be a little nuts to think that he’s going to successfully start a career as  a rapper.

My favorite dress of the 81st Academy Awards was by far Natalie Portman’s. She was also the prettiest too! Natalie wore a Grecian-inspired, orchid pink Rodarte gown. Of all the horrible and bland dresses on the red carpet this one was nice to see. Her stylist needs a raise.

Later on in the evening she presented the award for best Cinematography with Ben Stiller. Although, Ben stole the show with his his spoof of Joaquin Phoenix. Natalie did a good job reading the teleprompter and trying not to die laughing. See the clip of the spoof here>>>

We have talked a lot lately about Joaquin Phoenix looking scruffy and grungy.   And we’ve wondered why, of course.  Well, Joaquin has finally revealed his reasons, and they’re good ones - at least in his mind.

“People have called me a sex symbol in the past, but it’s very much an effort.  People know me as this kind of thing and in some ways I don’t know that this is my look.

It’s been important for me to just do something that’s extreme - that really separates me from that public Joaquin Phoenix persona, whatever the f*** that is.

Or maybe I’m just lazy.”

(Well, at least he admits it’s a possibility.)

This is extreme all right.  Eventually maybe he’ll get tired of looking like a mountain man and find a happy medium.

Joaquin Phoenix and his brother-in-law, Casey Affleck, hosted a night at LAVO nightclub January 16th. It was a big bomb and Joaquin fell off the stage. Since that day people have been buzzing that may be it was just all fake and he hasn’t totally lost his mind.

Now new reports are saying that it is just a hoax between him and Casey.

“He said, ‘It’s a put-on. I’m going to pretend to have a meltdown and change careers, and Casey is going to film it,’ ” a source [says].

“It’s an art project for him,” says the other source. “He’s going full out. He probably has told his reps that he’s quit acting. Joaquin is very smart. This is very conscious. He has a huge degree of control.”

Now, in these pictures you can see Casey filming it and looking like it’s more like work than having fun with his brother-in-law. What do you think? Real or a hoax?

Casey Affleck and the recently ‘retired from acting’ Joaquin Phoenix were in Las Vegas hosting a night at LAVO nightclub last night.

I am all for Joaquin trying something new. I am pretty sure he will come back to film one of these days.   But until then, I will watch his music career do whatever.  What I can’t handle is his new look.  Are you kidding me?!  Joaquin looks like he’s been beaten with the ‘ugly stick’!  He looks terrible.  Joaquin Phoenix looks like a hermit stuck in the woods.  He is a hot actor that played the legendary Johnny Cash!  What is he doing to his image??

Does anyone out there find this hippy, mountain man thing attractive?  YIKES!  Somebody get that guy a razor!!

I can’t get over how much Joaquin Phoenix looks like Jack Black back when he was in Tropic Thunder. Joaquin has been freaking me out lately by retiring from movies to work on his singing. A lot of people say that Joaquin reminds them of the way River Phoenix was before he died. (I remember River dying but I can’t remember what he was like before that.) I just hope that he made the right decision.

Joaquin Phoenix confirmed Saturday night at the premiere of his latest film, “Two Lovers” that he was leaving acting by flashing “good bye” on his knuckles.

“I think it’s just moving on. It’s rediscovering something else,” said Phoenix, “It’s like greener pastures, you know what I mean? And so, I’m just going to try and like, I’ll just be doing the other thing. … Hopefully, I will emotionally impact you with that, as well.”

I know that we will miss his acting. I think he could have had a great career. But sometimes we have to do what we have to do. I bet he’ll be back. Anyone want to bet me?

Joaquin Phoenix is retiring from his acting career, check it out in the video! 

He later confirmed the news to Extra, saying “This will be my last performance as an actor… I’m not doing films anymore…I’m working on my music. I’m done. I’ve been through that” he says. Contacting Phoenix’s representatives, they confirmed the news saying “That is what he told me.”

The 34-year-old Phoenix’s last film will be James Gray’s “Two Lovers” due for release February 13th next year.

Look at the tag line for the movie, ’sometimes we leave everything to find ourselves’. Did working on this movie profoundly change Phoenix? Is this perhaps some kind of marketing gimmick for the film? It’s probably just a coincidence. I think a lot of people will be sad to see him go.
