Movies Opening Friday, October 5 – Frankenweenie, The Paperboy, Taken 2

 Taken 2 Movie Poster

Planning on catching a movie this weekend?  Here’s a peek at new movies opening this weekend (Friday, October 5, 2012).

Taken 2Liam Neeson, Famke Janssen and Maggie Grace are back for this sequel to the 2008 flick.  Retired CIA operative Bryan Mills (Neeson) and his wife are taken hostage in retaliation for his killing one of his daughter’s kidnappers in Taken.

FrankenweenieTim Burton‘s latest animated film tells the tale of Victor Frankenstein, who uses science to reanimate his dead dog.  I’m incredibly surprised to find neither Helena Bonham Carter nor Johnny Depp in the Frankenweenie cast, but you will enjoy the voice talents of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Charlie Tahan and Christopher Lee.

Pitch Perfect – It’s men vs. women in a choral competition at the fictional Barden University.   Stars Brittany Snow, Anna Kendrick, Alexis Knapp, David Del Rio and Elizabeth Banks.

V/H/S – This “found footage” movie is an anthology of horror shorts “discovered” by a group of criminals who are hired to break into a house and steal a rare video tape.

The House I Live In – A documentary explores the war on drugs and the criminal justice system in the U.S. By Eugene Jarecki.

Butter (limited release) – Butter sculpture.  It’s an actual competitive event, and Jim Field Smith made a comedy about it.  The ensemble cast includes Jennifer Garner, Ty Burrell, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Ashley Greene and Alicia Silverstone.

The Paperboy (limited release) – Matthew McConaughey plays a reporter investigating a crime involving a death row inmate (John Cusack).  The Paperboy was directed by Lee Daniels and also features Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman and Macy Gray.

Sneak Peek: John Cusack as Edgar Allen Poe in ‘The Raven’ (Images)

Here’s the first image of John Cusack playing Edgar Allen Poe from the upcoming film The Raven.

Nevermore will you say you haven’t seen what John Cusack looks like as legendary master of horror, Edgar Allen Poe. The High Fidelity actor is currently in Budapest shootingThe Raven with director James McTeigue, who directed V for Vendetta. In the film, Poe goes on a search for a murderer who is mimicking crimes from his works.

I didn’t even know about this movie until now, so I’m actually pretty excited about this. I love Edgar Allen Poe and it’ll be great to see a live incarnation of the legend. I hope Cusack can pull it off!

VERY Red Band ‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ Trailer

Hot Tub Time Machine Poster

Here’s the Red Band trailer for the upcoming comedy Hot Tub Time Machine.

This trailer is Rated R! 17+ ONLY

This trailer certainly goes the raunchy route to pull in an audience. This movie looks pretty bad even with some funny jokes. I could be wrong, but this just doesn’t appeal to me.

‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ Trailer Takes us Back to the 80s

Hot Tub Time Machine

Here’s the trailer for the new comedy Hot Tub Time Machine.

Could be funny, but it seems more like a long episode of Family Guy than a good idea for a whole feature length movie. And it won’t be as funny as Family Guy. Seems like the studio’s are out of ideas, they need to change their script acquisition methods.

Rating: TBA

Trailer:

Release Date: November 13th, 2009

Thoughts: Roland Emmerich love to make disaster films, and he makes them often. The problem is the films are more about special effects than anything else, so this movie is probably going to be the same substance free stuff. This movie will be a success because of all the theories swirling around that ominous date of December 21st , 2012. But just because it’s a hot subject doesn’t mean it will be a good movie.

‘Hot Tub Time Machine’ Trailer Doesn’t Go Anywhere

hot-tub-time-machine

Here’s the trailer for the upcoming comedy Hot Tub Time Machine.

THIS TRAILER IS R-RATED 17+ ONLY!

This only strikes me as very mildly funny, I don’t think I’d want to sit through an hour and a half of it.

New ’2012′ Poster is All Wet

untitled

Here’s the new poster for the upcoming diasaster film, 2012 from director Roland Emmerich.

This really just looks like The Day After Tomorrow 2, maybe they should have just called it that. This movie is going to be filled with floods and water, yet completely dry of substance.

Catastrophic Full ’2012′ Trailer

2012

This is the full trailer for the upcoming disaster film 2012

Very cool visual effects, it’s interesting how much people have interest in the concept of the end of our civilization. Admittedly the 2012 theories are intriguing to say the least, but this movie is another clear example of visuals over content.

Lyndsy Fonseca is Jumping into ‘Hot Tub Time Machine’

74143978VB008_mvpa

Actress Lyndsy Fonseca is set to play a role in the upcoming film Hot Tub Time Machine.

The actress has booked a part in United Artists’ time-travel comedy “Hot Tub Time Machine,” now shooting in Vancouver. Fonseca will play Jenny, the girlfriend that slipped away from John Cusack’s character in 1987 whom he revisits when he and some friends accidentally travel back in time via their Jacuzzi.

Fonseca, repped by ICM and Management 360, just completed shooting “Kick-Ass” opposite Nicolas Cage. She continues in her roles on HBO’s “Big Love” and the CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” and stars with Drake Bell in the CBS comedy pilot “The Fish Tank.”

This movie sounds utterly strange, time travel movies are tricky to pull off cohesively. This is certainly a good break for Fonseca playing alongside John Cusack
