The defense in the John Travolta extortion case surprised the everyone in the Bahama courtroom when it rested its case after having only one witness. Just one!

A senator and paramedic are charged with trying to extort millions of dollars from the actor following the death of his 16 year old son, Jett.

Former Bahamas senator Pleasant Bridgewater and paramedic Tarino Lightbourne are facing charges of conspiracy to extort $25 million (£17.2 million) from the grieving actor after his teenage son Jett suffered a fatal seizure on the resort in January (09).

The pair reportedly threatened to release a Refusal of Treatment Transportation form, which Travolta signed after requesting paramedics drive his son to the airport.

Travolta changed his mind after signing the Refusal of Treatment form and Jett was taken to the hospital in the Bahamas. The charges against Bridgewater and Lightbourne say that the duo were going to leak the form to the press in order to make it look like Travolta delayed helping his son.

Word that Scientologist, John Travolta, was leaving the religion are just plain wrong, at least according to his representative.

“There’s no change in the relationship between the Church of Scientology and John,” says Bloch. “He is a member and it’s as it was, now and forever.”

This statement comes after the Daily Mail published a story saying that Travolta had become upset following the way the church had treated him and his family following the death of his son last January.

‘There have been strong rumours coming out of Scientology that John Travolta is disappointed that the religion was not able to help his son more,’ Rick Ross, an American author and lecturer on Scientology, told me this week. ‘It’s led him to question his faith.’ …

The Daily Mail article went on to say that Travolta was also upset by the suggestion of senior members of the church that he and other members of the family take part in sessions with “ethics officers”. These sessions would be to determine whether Travolta or other family members were “negative influences” on Jett and contributed to his death.

John Travolta is still severely grieving the loss of his son Jett back in January, say those close to him.

His neighbors report that he is often seen driving a golf cart late at night on the private runway near his home.

“We often see John driving himself around at night. It’s sad to see. You rarely catch sight of him during the day. We used to see him driving around on a buggy with his son. Now it’s just John by himself. He’s always been a night owl, but now even more so.”

Others describe Travolta’s “state of almost constant distress.”  His The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 costar Denzel Washington said:

“One minute he’s OK, the next he’s in tears. He’s such a sweet, sweet person.”

This is so sad!  I cannot imagine losing a child.  It’s going to be a long time before the family returns to anything feeling like normal.

I can’t say that I’m impressed, this movie looks like a rehash of about 20 other movies with some good actors thrown in. Hopefully there will be something deeper than what this trailer portrays.

John Travolta has finally released a statement in the name of the whole family about the tragic death of their son and brother, Jett Travolta, on his official website.

“We would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks to everyone who has sent their love and condolences. Jett was the most wonderful son that two parents could ever ask for and lit up the lives of everyone he encountered. We are heartbroken that our time with him was so brief. We will cherish the time we had with him for the rest of our lives. We have received many messages of condolence from around the world and we want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It has meant so much to us. It is a beautiful reminder of the inherent goodness in the human spirit that gives us hope for a brighter future.

The family is reportedly still in the Bahamas waiting for the results of the autopsy, which should be out tomorrow. Let’s hope they can finally put the controversy to rest and finally have time to mourn their incredibly painful loss.

This is a very difficult time for the Travolta family! No parents should have to go through all of this, especially having to deal with the media buzz around the death of their oldest son, Jett Travolta, which happened on Friday while they were enjoying a family vacation in the Bahamas.

The controversy started because of the differences between the Bahamas PD and Travolta’s version of the time line of the tragic dead of 16 year-old Jett. Bahamas officers are suggesting Jett might have had a seizure and was left unattended for more than 10 hours, so when they administered CPR it was already too late.

As for when Jett was last seen, cops say it was the at around 11:30 the night of January 1, when he went to the bathroom. Michael McDermott, John Travolta’s lawyer and close friend, says Eli or Jeff may have gone into that bathroom during the middle of the night so the time frame would have been compressed.

We’re told Jett’s disabilities included the inability to communicate well, in addition to some physical disabilities. As a result, there was a baby monitor in his room as well as a chime on the bathroom door. It’s unclear if the two nannies slept through any signs of movement. The townhouse is relatively small — around 1,000 square feet — and the nannies and Jett were all on the bottom floor.

McDermott told us it’s not unusual for Jett to sleep 12, even 16 hours a day, so Jett not being present is not unusual.

The results of the autopsy should be announced tomorrow and let’s hope this can bring some piece to the Travoltas. Again we would like to offer our condolences to the family and send our thoughts and prayers!

Jett Travolta, the autistic 16-year-old sone of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, has died according to reports out of the Rand Memorial Hospital in the Bahamas where the family has been vacationing.

No cause of death has been given. Travolta has denied for years his son is autistic but many believe other wise. Travolta says his son has Kawasaki Syndrome which can cause heart related problems.  We will let you know if and when we hear more.

That’s right, expect a brand new Hairspray sequel. It’s official. John Waters will be writing it and director/choreographer Adam Shankman will return to helm the project. Tony winning song writers Mark Shaiman and Scott Wittman will be writing brand new songs for the film. None of the original actors have been attached yet but New Line is hoping to bring back  John Travolta, Christopher Walken, Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, James Marsden, Amanda Bynes, Elijah Kelley and Allison Janney. The film should be out in mid-July of 2010.
