Jon Bon Jovi Does Good With $1M Donation

Rocker Jon Bon Jovi’s charity has made a major donation to create affordable housing units in Newark, New Jersey.  The HELP Newark Initiative is a public-private partnership between Bon Jovi’s Philadelphia Soul Charitable Foundation and developer HELP USA.  The Newark Genesis Apartments will be

51 new units of affordable housing with support services for low-income and special-needs persons, which will include ground-breaking environmentally-friendly “green” features such as a geothermal heating system and other components of New Jersey’s Green Future program. There will be a 2,500 square-foot community center as well.

Bon Jovi commented:

“Newark’s time is now…As the Mayor enhances the city’s offerings to attract visitors, businesses and new residents continue, we are also working together to meet the needs of current residents who may not be able to afford market rate rents. Many of the residents who will live in these homes will have some type of special need, be it rehabilitation, medical care, child care, or vocational training, and we want to see to it that those needs are affordably and realistically met.”

It’s awesome when anyone creates affordable housing for those in need, but I think this development will be just a little bit more awesome thanks to Bon Jovi’s involvement.  What a great cause!  Rock on, Jon!

Bon Jovi - YEP, They’ve Still Got It!

Maybe because it was free, or maybe because the sheer swagger that is Jon Bon Jovi was too alluring to resist in the 95+ degree NYC air. Either way, the boys from Jersey packed the Great Lawn portion of Manhattan’s Central Park, winding their Spring/Summer tour.

“We started 10 nights in New Jersey and ended up with the biggest show of the year in New York at Central Park on the Great Lawn. It’s very rarified air, you know? We know there are only a half a dozen shows that have ever been on this grass.”

The crew opened the show with “Livin’ On a Prayer” (classic), following with their performance set of “Born to be my Baby”, “Runaway”, and “Lost Highway”

Governor Jon Bon Jovi?

Jon Bon Jovi

In yet another (possible) celebrity turned politician, one time 80’s hair band legend, Jon Bon Jovi, is considering a run for governor of New Jersey.

The rocker is rumored to be planning a run for governor of New Jersey! That’s reportedly why he’s held on to his Garden State home, even though he lives in New York.

When contacted for comment his rep confirmed his interest by responding “maybe.”
