Full ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ Trailer Looks Good!

Here’s the trailer for the upcoming sci-fi/western Cowboys & Aliens from director Jon Favreau.

This movie looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun! The whole first part of the trailer is just like the teaser was, but after that it kicks off with some great visuals and a lot more about the story. This summer may be better for movies than I expected, thanks Jon Favreau!

Jon Favreau Will Not Direct ‘Iron Man 3′

Jon Favreau has confirmed that he will no longer be directing the upcoming Iron Man 3 since he’ll be busy doing Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Here is his tweet:

Insiders close to Marvel and Robert Downey Jr, who has director approval onIron Man 3, confirm that Jon Favreau won’t direct this next installment of the franchise.

It’s unfortunate, he did such a great job on the first two, it’ll be hard for somebody else to pick up where he left off. But I’m looking forward to what else he has in store. At least he’s moving on to something else, and I’m sure it’ll be good. He’s got one of those reputations as a director for making great movies, which isn’t too common in modern Hollywood.

Daniel Craig Replaces Robert Downey Jr. in ‘Cowboys and Aliens’

Daniel CraigCowboys & Aliens

Daniel Craig has stepped into the role Robert Downey Jr. was set to play in the upcoming comic book film Cowboys and Aliens.

Daniel Craig has closed his deal to star in Cowboys and Aliens for DreamWorks and Universal, as I predicted. Craig will star in an adaptation of Fred Van Lente’s graphic novel that was published by Platinum Studios and revolves around cowboys and Native Americans who put aside their Old West differences to battle invading aliens. Craig will play the lead cowboy Zeke Jackson, replacing Robert Downey Jr who exited to jump right back to the Sherlock Holmes sequel.

Craig is a good fit for the role. And even though we know Robert Downey Jr. and director Jon Favreau have worked well together in the past, it will be a nice change of pace for Craig from the  Bond films.

Robert Downey Jr. and John Favereau Together for ‘Cowboys & Aliens’

downeyjr

Robert Downey Jr. and director John Favereau seem to be on a creative streak together, their next project after Iron Man 2 seems to be another comic movie Cowboys & Aliens.

Cowboys & Aliens has a long history in Hollywood. Famously bought based on a poster concept, the idea kicked around from Universal and Dreamworks to Columbia and back to Universal. Several writers have taken a crack at it. When Downey’s name was attached the current writers were Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, who wrote Iron Man. Now Alex KurtzmanRoberto Orci and Damon Lindeloff are rewriting. As far as we know the logline is the same: in the Old West, “settlers and Native Americans wage a bloody battle for control of the land. But when the Earth is threatened by conquerors from the stars, these sworn enemies must work together to save all humanity.”

The interest that rises when Favreau and Downey threaten to team up on this one is tempered by the Kurtzman/Orci involvement. Sure, their Star Trek worked, but that was a casting success more than anything else. Will another casting success and the input of Favreau overcome the Kurtzman/Orci tendencies? We might find out in 2011; the film is tentatively scheduled for a summer 2010 start date.

This is something that just seems right from the get-go. I’m all about it, they certainly have the right chemistry going and hopefully they can keep it up.
