Kanye’s 4th Album On the Way

Kanye West sees no reason for taking a break, and sees no reason why you should need a break from him.  Seems as if his mother’s death (from a plastic surgery mishap earlier this year) has done nothing but turn the producer/fashionisto into a work-obsessive artist; so-much-so that his own fiancee left his side.

Be prepared for another Kanyeezy album this coming December, with a rush-release of the lead single “Love Lockdown” hitting radio as early as mid October.

Estelle Plummets On Charts: Record Label to Blame

estellekanye.jpg

The whole anti-iTunes thing might have worked for Kid Rock (who climbed the charts after fans found out they couldn’t buy their copy of “All Summer Long”, and instead turned to purchasing physical copies), but when Warner, Estelle’s record label, decided to try they shot themselves in the foot. The result? The Kanye West-assisted record “American Boy” dropped from #11 to #37 on the U.S. Billboard charts. Her album Shine was doing moderately well as the 38th best-selling album in the country. It’s now fallen into obscurity at #159.

A spokesperson for Warner issued this weak explanation: “The move was one of several uniquely tailored to each artist and their fanbase in an effort to optimize revenues and promote long-term artist development.”

So sad, especially in a music industry that’s so hard for new artists to break into (these days at least).

Kanye West’s Moving Vodka Commercial

Kanye West appears in this Absolut Vodka commercial to prove that everyone can ‘be Kanye’. It’s moving and proves that even the underdog can get a chance with good looking women. But my question is does everyone want to be a prick like him too?

Democratic National Convention Gets “Stronger”

Kanye West, N.E.R.D., and Wyclef Jean have been added to the performance bill, promising a more lively ceremony than previous years (any politics-nerds remember Michael McDonald’s snooze-fest?).  Also in attendance will be Ed Norton (who’s shooting a documentary on Dem. candidate & future president Senator Barack Obama), Scarlett Johansson, Forest Whittaker, Warren Beatty, Annette Benning, and more.  West, who’s no stranger to political gruff (”George Bush does not like black people”) and Pharrell’s nerdy bunch has delved pretty serious into social criticism (”All the girls standing in the line for the bathroom” [referencing a rise in cocaine use among young Hollywood]).  I love it.

Be sure to check back next month for pictures & video from the Denver, CO event!

Kanye West is a Big DIVA!!

This is so Kanye West Style!! It’s just predictable! It seems like ‘THE artist’ didn’t like Entertainment Weekly’s review of his ‘Glow in the Dark’ Tour and he decided he would just blog about it… bad idea!

He says, “Yo, anybody that’s not a fan; don’t come to my show. For what?! To try and throw ya’ll two cents in? Ya’ll rated my album sh*tty and now ya’ll come to the show and give it a B+.
“What’s a B+ mean? I’m an extremist. It’s either pass or fail! A+ or F-! You know what, f*ck you and the whole f*cking staff!!! I know I shouldn’t dignify this with a comment, but the reviewer threw a jab at all the artists.

“I just wanna know when was the last time you enjoyed yourself. If you can’t have fun and lose yourself at this tour it’s a good chance you’re a very miserable person.

“I actually feel sorry for you guys. Your job forces you to not have fun anymore. Grab a drink, holla at some nice girls, and party b*tch!!”

He continues, “You don’t know sh*t about passion and art. You’ll never gain credibility at this rate. You’re f*cking trash! I make art.

“You can’t rate this. I’m a real person. I’m not a pop star. I don’t care about anything but making great art. Never come 2 one of my shows ever again, you’re not invited and if you see me…BOW!! This is not pop, it’s pop art!”

It’s POP ART!! You heard the man. You cannot classify pop art with a B+!! I see no logic there… I think Kanye only really makes sense in the Kanye language!!

Probably Kanye skipped school when they were explaining there’s a whole world of grades between A and F.

Daft Punk Grammys

This was my favorite performance of last night’s Grammy Awards. Kanye West was brilliant, despite his battery pack falling out his jacket making him look like he had a tail. I cheered aloud too when Daft Punk emerged from the pyramid, looking like two luminescent robots! It was awesome. Kayne later sings a song for his late mother that was heartfelt and didn’t come off as being put on or forced. You can see the winners and highlights of the 2008 Grammys here.

Donda West Passes Away at 58

Kanye and Donda West

Dr. Donda West, mother to rapper Kanye West, passed away Saturday night in Los Angeles at the age of 58.  She was a former English professor at Chicago State University, her son’s manager, and the chairwoman of the Kanye West Foundation.

A spokesman for Kanye said, “The family respectfully asks for privacy during this time of grief.”

Donda West recently released a book about her son called Raising Kanye: Life Lessons From The Mother Of A Hip-Hop Superstar.

The cause of death has not yet been released, though there are rumors that she had an allergic reaction to medication while getting plastic surgery.  Whatever the reason, she was an intelligent and talented woman, and she will be missed.

Rap Battles: Jay-Z VS Eminem or Timbaland VS Dr Dre

Dr Dre

Since the success of the battle of the rap stars Kanye West and 50 Cent, Celebrity Babylon is reporting that superproducer Timbaland is calling out Dr Dre and Jay-Z is looking at Eminem.

Also tossing his rap cap into the ring is Jay-Z, who states he would like to throw down an album battle with Eminem.

Great match-ups. Let’s see if they go thru with it.

Kanye West’s Graduation to Maturity

Kanye West

Controversial rapper Kanye West has come to realize his words are powerful. He recently told Access Hollywood that while he isn’t trying to be sensational with what he says, he has always been outspoken and gotten in trouble for it.

“Well, I’m not even trying to be controversial. I’m not trying to be something that I’m not. I was always like the kid that got sent to the office for saying ‘Hey, the art teacher sucks!,” he said.

Earlier this month, he called out MTV for having Britney Spears open the VMAs and not him. He wondered aloud why MTV would book her, when she hasn’t has a hit in a few years instead of himself.

“I think that I have a powerful voice and I might have misused it on that night,” the chart-topper told Access. “I think I said a lot of things that were true but maybe it wasn’t my place to particularly call those things out.”

That statement represents a huge step forward for Kanye. He is a very smart man who has a lot to show still and lets it get lost in bravado. With his new album, Graduation, maybe he has learned a thing or two.
