Kara DioGuardi made her Broadway debut this week in the role of Chicago‘s Roxie Hart.  She completely looks the part!

Kara spoke with TheatreMania about what she and her character have in common.  Kara noted:

She’s a quick-thinker and lives moment to moment. She navigates through a lot – she’s a survivor. I feel there are times in my life that I am like that, especially in the music business.

The producers of Broadway’s Chicago have chosen their new Roxie Hart:  American Idol‘s Kara DioGuardi will be taking over the role beginning September 5th.

The role is currently played by Christie Brinkley, who signed on for an 11 week run.

Kara has said she is “beyond excited” about the opportunity. I think she’ll be great!

As far memoirs go, Kara DioGuardia’s upcoming A Helluva High Note, has a lot of low notes in the songwriter’s life.

DioGuardia reveals her childhoos sexual trauma, beginning at the age of 11, at the hands of family friend’s son, who assaulted her in a backyard shed.

“On one particular day, he took me into the back shed of his house and put his hands all over my breasts and vagina,” she writes. “I remember freezing and not knowing what to do.”

The former American Idol judge also recounts her date rape, in 2000, as her career was taking off, by a “fairly known producer” who took Kara out to dinner one night.

“[W]ithin a few hours, he was on top of me, pumping, sweating and speaking to me in Spanish, not a word of which I could understand.”  Unable to fight him off because he was too strong, DioGuardia asked him to stop repeatedly to no avail.

The 40 year-old also sheds light on her A.I. departure saying she wasn’t fired, she left because she wanted to have a baby and asked to be let out of her contract.

“I wanted a child, and there was no way I could get pregnant under the stress of 18-hour work days and live TV,” she writes. “I had undergone three unsuccessful rounds of IVF during Season 9.”

“Leaving was painful, and there will always be a part of me that wanted to stay,” DioGuardia said. “But my desire to be in control of my destiny was larger than my need to be a household name.”

Her memoir will be on sale April 26th. She is also costarring with Jewel in Bravo TV’s upcoming reality program, Platinum Hit, which debuts on May 30th.

Kara DioGuardi was cut from American Idol but has landed on her feet.  She’s heading over to Bravo to be the lead judge on Going Platinum, a song-writing competition.

“Hit songs are the backbone of the music industry, and as a publisher, nothing excites me more than finding new songwriting talent,” DioGuardi says. “I am happy to be a part of a show that helps up and coming songwriters pursue their dreams, while giving the public a look into the creative process.”

Jewel is going to be the host of the show that will premiere in 2011.  12 contestants will write music and lyrics from different genres and the winner will receive $100,000 and music-publishing/recording deals.

Add another line to Kara DioGuardi‘s resume… she’s not busy enough writing songs and judging American Idol, apparently.  Kara’s launched her own radio show on L.A.’s 104.3 MYfm.   And she’s excited about it!  She said:

“I am absolutely thrilled to be on air giving my take on some of the great music out there.”

American Idol’s Kara DioGuardi is baring all for Allure Magazine in an issue that hits stands on April 20th.  She along with Jessica Capshaw, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Colbie Caillat, and Regina Hall took off their clothes for the shoot and shared their feelings on being nude for the cameras.

Kara said,

“This shoot was less about beauty than about taking a risk and showing people a side of me they never have seen,” says the American Idol judge. She was proud to have the confidence to strip down for the camera after struggling with binge eating and depression in her early 20s. “Back then I was a size 6 or 8; now I’m more like a size 2. Food is not what I use to anesthetize myself anymore.” She didn’t diet or work out like a maniac in preparation, but she did make one change: cutting way back on salt. “I can really retain water,” she says.

Kara dishes on here healthy diet, past struggles with weight, her disorder and more:

Battling an eating disorder:

“I’d pretty much clean out the refrigerator. Food was my drug of choice. It anesthetized me so I wouldn’t have to feel whatever I was feeling. I’d stuff myself full of sugar and fall asleep.”

On eating healthy:

“The more roughage you eat, the more it fills you up.”

On the importance of water:

“Two huge bottles a day, minimum. I have them around — one upstairs, one in the car — to force me to remember.”

American Idol’s Kara DioGuardi is showin off her super sexy side in Maxim Magazine.  We got a preview of Kara’s bikini body during the season finale of the last American Idol.  Now you can get a full gander of what Kara’s got.

How did you go from songwriter to American Idol superjudge?

They were looking for a fourth judge, and they wanted to add someone who was in the industry. Plus, I’m known to be ballsy and outspoken. They knew I wouldn’t clam up and go under the desk. Although I did want to, believe me!

Would you have auditioned for Idol when you were starting out?

Yes, but I don’t think I would have gotten too far if I was, like, 20.

Are you missing Paula this season?

During the auditions, yeah, I missed her. She was so nurturing, and I try to have some of that in my critiques. I wouldn’t say I have the maternal instinct that she had, though. I’m a little bit more New York, a little more hard-edge.

Does Simon ever lay into you the way he did Paula?

Definitely. It’s hard for me to say something negative to a contestant without giving something constructive back, and that annoys Simon. But they’re kids, and you feel for them – especially when they have a story, like they’ve overcome cancer or something.

The beautiful Adam Lambert is expected to announce that he is, in fact, gay in an upcoming issue of Rolling Stone. And just a couple days ago he encouraged all of us to “keep speculating” about his sexuality… But apparently Kara DioGuardi wanted to steal his thunder and beat him to the punch.

“I don’t think that Adam was ever in [the closet],” she says in a taped interview airing Friday on ABC’s The View. “I think he was always openly out.”

Walters then asked again if Lambert — who has never publicly said he’s gay — “was always openly out.”

“I think he was,” DioGuardi replies. “I mean, from what I’ve seen … I do. I never thought he wasn’t.”

Ok, so is Adam in or out of the closet? Who really cares?! It’s obvious that he’s gay and he hasn’t really tried to hide it. Hopefully he embraces it soon publicly and just runs with it one way or the other.
