Kate Gosselin spoke to Matt Lauer on The Today Show early this morning to talk about the end of her reality TV series.

Tonight is the final episode of the TLC show Kate Plus 8 - a spin-off of the once very popular Jon & Kate Plus 8 that was reformatted around single mom Kate after her separation and divorce from Jon Gosselin.

In the interview Kate shared how sad it all is, for everyone:

On how her fans feel: “They’re  devastated. They’re saying, you know, you’re the neighbor moving far away and we won’t see you again.”

On how her kids will miss out: “I feel sad for my kids because of all of the opportunities that they’re now questioning.”

On how she feels: “[The show] has been the start essentially of my career and my job and the way I’ve been providing for my kids for six years. And so you know, it is a little scary.”

Beyond how bereft she is, Kate manages to take a swipe at ex-husband Jon and every working parent who doesn’t shill their kids on a reality show (which is getting to be a smaller and smaller group every day.)

When Lauer mentioned that Jon suggested she get a job away from the cameras (the horror!) Kate derided the thought.

“It’s a situation where Jon may be accepting of mediocre for his kids, and working a regular job — I want the best for my kids and the best opportunities, not unlike every parent,” the Pennsylvania native said. “I think that to be a good parent is to work as hard as you can and give them the best opportunities in life, and [reality TV] has provided that.”

Best opportunities come from you, the parent, not the materialistic things you can or cannot provide.Yes, every parent wants what’s best for their kids, but not every parent believes that comes from a reality show where the children are stressed (witness the episode with Kate and her best friend fighting over pizza and the children crying over how bad it was.)

If you still think Kate is a great mother after that completely self-serving statement – there is no help for you.

Kate Gosselin will be looking for employment.

The ratings of her TV show chronicling her and her children’s lives simply aren’t there any more and TLC has officially pulled the plug on Kate Plus 8.

“TLC has decided not to renew another season of Kate Plus 8,” the official statement reads. “By the end of this season Kate Plus 8 will have hit the 150 episode mark (including Jon & Kate Plus 8); an exceptional milestone. TLC hopes to check in with Kate and the family periodically with specials in the future.”

Gosselin, 36, began doing the program in 2007 with her then husband, Jon Gosselin with the original title of the show Jon & Kate Plus 8. The program followed the lives of the married couple raising their sextuplets and two other children.

It didn’t take long for things to go wrong and in 2009, in a one hour special aired by the cable channel, Jon and Kate announced their separation.

The couple imploded in the public eye with Jon having a pretty public mid-life crisis dating questionable women and not working and Kate received loads of criticism for everything from her demeanor to possible cosmetic surgery and how she was raising the kids.

TLC retooled the show and it returned as Kate Plus 8 and  for a while the ratings were phenomenal – reaching the 10 million mark.

But it wasn’t long for the once-suburban mom from Pennsylvania and she tried her hand at other reality ventures including a stint on Dancing With The Stars and an appearance with the kids on Sarah Palin‘s Alaska.

Gosselin remarked on twitter about the ending of the show.

“We wish our fans well. And remember, this is not ‘goodbye’.I prefer to say ‘See you around!’ Xoxo …” she tweeted.

The final episode airs September 12th.

Perhaps inspired by all the hats and fascinators worn at the Royal Wedding, celebrities donned an impressive array of toppers to attend the Kentucky Derby this weekend.  I understand that here in the U.S., most of us don’t have very many chances to wear strictly decorative hats, so I completely get that some people jump at the opportunity.

It’s just too bad Kate Gosselin‘s extra enthusiasm led her to jack a fringed lampshade from a bordello.

Jennifer Tilly, on the other hand, looks like she has no idea what’s on her head or how it got there.    (Jen… they’re molded feathers, but yeah – they totally look like snakes!!)

Kate Gosselin is doing just fine without her “reformed” ex, Jon Gosselin.  In fact, she’s got some friends in high places.  One of them being Sarah Palin.  Right now the kids and Kate are in Alaska on a camping trip with Palin, with the cameras rolling.  So, yes.  We will get to see how this one goes over.

An insider told In Touch that Sarah really looking forward to the trip,

“She’s excited because it will be fun and educational for the children. Sarah will even teach Kate how to avoid bears!”

Who can blame her?  It’s not just because she’s got eight kids.  She’d feel that way with one.  I give her props and I think she and ABC should go for it!  Make Kate Gosslin the next Bachelorette and get her a good man!  Yes, there are plenty of single dads out there who’d love to marry Kate.  I guarantee it.

Kate Gosselin took the kids to Orlando, Florida’s Discovery Cove last week for some fun.  Kate looked fabulous in a little bikini, showing off that buff bod that was already great but DWTS really toned it.  Plus Kate brought back her short hair.  But it’s not the same.  It’s grown out a lot and looks really good.  I like it a lot.

Everyone (including me ) was under the impression that Kate Gosselin and Pamela Anderson were mortal enemies during their time on Dancing With The Stars. It looks like that was all a bunch of BS!

So there goes that lame rumor.  I am glad.  I thought it was pretty ridiculous for Pammy to hate on Kate.  They are both parents, on different ends of the spectrum.  But I think that bonds them anyhow.  Ha! What a funny combination.  Can you see Pam hanging out with Kate and her kids in PA?

NOT!  I couldn’t help myself.  What the media won’t do or say to TRY and make Kate Gosselin look like a terrible mother.  One very popular rag is saying things like “Kate ditches the kids to go tanning and get a pedi…”  What?!  How dare a mother of eight go to the salon while the kids are spending the day with their FATHER. Seriously, they are calling out Kate for going on Regis and Kelly after being booted from DWTS.  Um, hello.  Every pair does that.

What mother out there doesn’t take time to go to the salon, shopping, lunch, etc without the kids?  If moms DON’T do that, they become burn outs.  It is healthy and very necessary for moms to take time for themselves.  Kate’s kids love their mother. Kate works very hard.  Get over yourselves and find a new victim to fabricate ugly stories about.

Kate Gosselin keeps a strong front going no matter what she is going through.  Her ex-husband Jon Gosselin is dragging her through another round of hell, attempting to take the kids away from her with a bunch of unfounded claims.  But, Kate is continuing on, not throwing in the towel.

It seems like most of the public loves to hate on Kate Gosselin.  Everyone seems to have found perfection in themselves and decided that calling out Kate Gosselin is now their right.  Funny thing is, most of those hating Kate, don’t have any kids, much less eight of them.  So perhaps they have no idea what they are actually judging.  Also, I find it odd that Kate is being slammed for nannies caring for her kids while she’s at work.  Yet, all the other celebrity actors, Hollywood types, etc have nannies taking care of their kids full time and no one bats an eye… Hello, Brangelina?

Jon Gosselin Asks For A Reality Check

My point is, Kate Gosselin really isn’t doing anything wrong but, she’s always being blasted for working hard and pursuing a career, and perhaps some of her dreams. Why does Kate have to defend herself for doing what everyone else in HOllywood is doing?  Sure she came across a bit (sometimes a lot) on the ‘witchy’ side on Jon & Kate Plus 8.  I can’t say that I’d be any different if I was married to Jon Gosselin and had eight kids to care for.

I am sure you all will continue to point the finger at Kate Gosselin, ignoring all of your own faults.  But, I sure wish you’d give the woman a break.  She deserves one.
