Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes hit the world premiere of The Kennedys, held at The Academy of of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Los Angeles on Monday night.

Holmes, who played Jackie Kennedy in the biopic, told reporters she what she admired most about the former First Lady.

“I love how strong she was and what a great mom she was,” the actress said. “She was very supportive of her husband and she did so much for our country, and she’s had lasting influence. So I just started from there, and I approached this work knowing what a strong woman she was.”

The TV drama was dropped by The History Channel after The Kennedy family raised objections to how they were portrayed. Reelz Channel has since picked up the miniseries.

Katie Holmes has decided that Star Magazine went to far and has filed a $50 million libel suit against the publication.

The cover says “Katie Drug Shocker” with a small tag above “Addiction Nightmare” and below “The Real Reason She Can’t Leave Tom.” The story inside is about Holmes allegedly being hooked on Scientology’s e-meter which according to Star, gives church members a euphoric feeling – no drugs involved.

Holmes and her attorney, Bert Fields say the cover is misleading and a kind of written bait and switch:

“Not only do they cruelly defame Katie, they play a cheap trick on the public, making ridiculously false claims on the cover unsupported by anything inside. Someone should bring a class action to get all buyers their money back.”

The publishers (American Media, Inc.) feel they have justified the language used on the cover with the story, claiming that they have former church members to back it up:

“The physical effect of the e-meter on its users is a matter of significant public concern and we plan to vigorously defend the suit filed by Ms. Holmes. Many ex-scientologists have testified that the e-meter sessions have mood elevating effects. The cover and the inside article discuss these effects.”

Holmes herself says:

“Of all the fabricated stories that continue to be published about me, this instance is beyond the pale. The publisher knew this outrageous story was false and printed it anyway to sell magazines.”

Take a peek at Katie Holmes‘ ad campaign for Ann Taylor Spring 2011!   Katie looks serious, but fierce, in a blue pantsuit.   Here’s what she has to say about working with her new employer:

“I applaud women who are doing their best to be the best versions of themselves and who are working really hard. And I’m glad that there is a store like Ann Taylor that can offer amazing styles for the many different roles that women play.”

That statement can be taken in a number of ways – note that she never says she actually likes the clothes.  However, maybe Ann Taylor can help Katie work on her wardrobe a bit, because lord knows sometimes she really needs it!

Katie Holmes has landed a gig as the new face of Ann Taylor.  Wait, you ask, didn’t Heidi Klum just have that job?  She DID, and while I thought she was kind of a terrible choice, I’m kind of surprised that her gig only lasted a few months.   Katie, whom I think is a very good spokesmodel for this brand, will appear in the retailer’s Spring ad campaign.   Check it out in fashion magazines beginning in March.   And let’s wish Katie some luck, and hope that this project doesn’t fizzle on her the way her last one did.

After all that hype and anticipation, the History Channel has announced that it will not be airing the eight-part miniseries The Kennedys.  The network said in a statement:

“While the film is produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand. We recognize historical fiction is an important medium for storytelling and commend all the hard work and passion that has gone into the making of the series, but ultimately deem this as the right programming decision for our network.”

Let me get this straight.  The History Channel shows plenty of stuff with questionable historical value, for example, Pawn Stars, Ice Road Truckers, Storage Wars, and American Pickers.  Why isn’t The Kennedys up to snuff?  Buzz is that it’s possible that the show’s outspoken conservative producer, Joel Surnow, may have gone too far in his negative portrayal of John F. Kennedy and his family.

The series will still air in Canada, and may be picked up by another cable network.  And here I was just looking forward to seeing Katie Holmes in all those fabulous costumes.

Suri Cruise is a study in contrasts.  At four years old, she owns an iPad, wears lipstick and rocks the high heels, but also still drinks out of a bottle and evidently still has trouble walking on her own.  Attention, Mama Katie Holmes!  Why are you still carrying your child?  Put her down already!

Check out the just-released poster for the upcoming miniseries The Kennedys.  Katie Holmes looks so much like Jackie Kennedy it’s eerie.

Mrs. Kennedy’s style was so iconic and distinctive, and Katie says that this is lovingly recreated in the movie:

“I feel so lucky. We have these wonderful seamstresses who are creating beautiful dresses that are obviously replicas of real things [Kennedy] wore. Her great style was both appropriate for every event that she went to and also classic, and also things that were wearable. I feel really lucky to be playing her.”

The Kennedys will air on the History Channel in early 2011. I will definitely be tuning in.

It’s definitely fall fashion issue season!  New York Magazine chose Katie Holmes to cover their Fall Fashion 2010 Issue.  A dubious choice, given Katie’s rather…uneven fashion sense, but hey – when she hits it, she hits it.   Katie’s also got her own fashion line of “luxuriously made basics” now, Holmes & Yang.

The magazine talked with Katie about her fashion sense, daughter Suri, and her latest role, playing Jackie Kennedy in the upcoming miniseries, The Kennedys.

On how she got into designing: I started making clothes for Suri when she was born, designing dresses, and then having seamstresses sew them, because I don’t sew very well. As a child, I was always drawing clothes, and I’ve always loved fabrics, and when Suri was born, I wanted to have certain things be from me and created just by me for her. And so that kind of got me into it, and then one day, Jeanne and I were getting ready for something and we thought, men have such beautiful tailored shirts, they have such a uniform, and we thought it would be nice to make things that are simple that you can have forever.

On learning to appreciate couture: I always loved clothes growing up. My mother had a drapery business. And now, part of being in this business is that you’re around really nice clothes. You do these photo shoots, you get exposed to Hermès and Chloé and Armani, and you start to feel the difference.

On playing former first lady Jackie Kennedy: I’m just focused on creating a character as much as possible without knowing what was going on behind closed doors. In my own life, it’s just something that’s there. We luckily have security so I can focus on motherhood and work and other things.
