Madonna & Lourdes Tap Georgia May Jagger As Their ‘Material Girl’

The back-to-school campaign for Madonna and her daughter LourdesMaterial Girl clothing line has a new face: Georgia May Jagger.

Jagger is the 20 year-old daughter of rock legend Sir Mick Jagger and model Jerry Hall.

“To be handpicked by Madonna and Lola [Lourdes] as the new face of Material Girl is truly amazing,” Jagger told WWD.

Jagger follows previous spokesmodels Kelly Osbourne and Taylor Momsen as young celebs handpicked by the mother-daughter fashion team to be the face of the juniors line.

The photo shoot has already taken place in New York City and the new ads will debut this summer.

MG is currently sold exclusively at Macy’s in the US and The Bay in Canada. It will be sold in Asia and Europe beginning this summer.

Georgia’s gorgeousness is currently on display in the Hudson Jeans campaign and she stars in Rimmel London cosmetics print and TV ads.

Madonna Says Lady Gaga’s Single “Born This Way” Is “Reductive”

Much has been made of the similarities between Lady Gaga‘s “Born This Way” and Madonna‘s “Express Yourself” and now Madge herself has weighed in on the controversy.

The 53 year-old musician and director told 20/20 she thought it was “flattering” overall but found Gaga’s song to be “reductive.”

“She’s a very talented artist,” Madonna said. “I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it’s amusing and flattering and well done.”

“[Her songs seem to be a] statement about taking something that was in the Zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it.”

Speaking specifically about BTW:

“When I heard ['Born This Way'] on the radio… I said, ‘That sounds very familiar.” When interviewer Cynthia McFadden asked if she found it annoying, Madonna replied “It felt reductive.”

While Madonna may not love everything the “You and I” singer does, Lady Gaga has expressed nothing but love for the “Material Girl.”

She told Jay Leno in February that she was a huge fan “personally and professionally” of Madonna.

Madonna has announced the name of her 12th studio album – MDNA – will be released in early spring. She is also the performer for the Super Bowl’s Halftime show on February 5th.

Photos of Madonna from the premiere of her latest film W.E. are under, along with the vids of her 20/20 interview.

Madonna Looks Fun, Fabulous & Suspiciously Young At Venice Film Festival

Madonna

Madonna celebrated the screening of her film, W.E., at the Venice Film Festival yesterday.  I love to hate on Madge, but she looked pretty amazing in a butterfly-embellished gown by Vionnet.  What a fun choice!  She gets bonus points for coordinating her sunglasses and lipstick with the red appliques.

There’s something missing from her face, though, and that would be any sign of wrinkles.  Someone’s evidently been hitting the Botox.  And that, in and of itself, wouldn’t really be so bad, except that her arms and hands clearly show her true age.   Which is fine: a woman in her early 50s should have some wrinkles – they’re a badge of honor, in my opinion.  However, trying to hide your years on on one visible part of your body and not another is kind of like the carpet not matching the drapes, if you know what I’m saying.

It’s a mixed message, and that’s a nice segue into some talk about W.E., Madonna’s fourth film to date.  Rather in the style of Julie & Julia, it two stories:  one of King Edward VIII‘s choice to give up the British throne in order to be with Wallis Simpson, his American girlfriend; the other, about a modern-day woman who is obsessed with Wallis.

The reviews of this film are all over the place!   Some call it “a breath of fresh air,”  while others say it is “fatally mishandled.”  Another reviewer calls it “bold and confident.”  Yet another says it “can’t be redeemed.”

You’ll get to see what you think soon:  it’s been picked up by The Weinstein Company, and will be released this December.

More views from the screening after the jump.

Madonna & Lourdes Expand ‘Material Girl’ Line: Beauty, Sleepwear & Intimates

The fashionable mother-daughter duo of Madonna and Lourdes Leon are taking Material Girl, their juniors line of clothing, to the next level and to a slightly older demographic.

Material Girl products are expanding to include sleepwear, lingerie, outerwear and beauty products as well as more denim and new party dresses added to the line. Reps say the fashions are targeted for customers 18 to 25 years old and not younger teens and tweens as they were previously.

The sleepwear and intimates, including polka dotted push-up bras and bustiers, are hitting Macy’s shelves this month.

Next month the roll out of the beauty products begin. Body gels and sprays, lip gloss and nail polish will be in Macy’s stores by August 15. The line will expand even more with eye shadow and liner in mid September.

Lourdes, 14, had the task of choosing scents and naming the products.

”It was so much fun getting to pick all of my favorite scents for the Material Girl body products and lip glosses,” Lola told WWD.

“The body products have fun names like Wicked Watermelon, Flirty Fruit, Midnight Magnolia and Sinful Sugar. I chose scents that I loved.”

While the age gets higher, the price range stays affordable. Intimates are $5 – $29 and Sleepwear is priced $14 – $22. Everything else is set to fall under $99 with a few exceptions.

New ads with spokesmodel Kelly Osbourne will debut soon.

Madonna At 2011 Costume Gala

Madonna was magnificent for the 2011 Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City on Monday, May 2nd.

The 2011 Met Gala, as it’s more commonly known, featured an exhibit, the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty retrospective, which honored the late designer’s body of work.

The singer chose a light cadet blue slim column dress from friend Stella McCartney. The back was embroidered with silver stars and had a very long train for a retro glam look.

The new face of Material Girl clothing attended an official launch at Macy’s on Thursday.

Kelly Osbourne, who was chosen as the new face of the juniors apparel line replacing Taylor Momsen, celebrated the new designs at Macy’s in the Beverly Center of Los Angeles, California.

The 26 year-old wore a floral skirt with polka dot top and faded jean jacket to the fashion show and special pink themed party.

The fashion show was hosted by Project Runway competitor and designer Nick Verreos, who MC’d for the event and with Osbourne, answered fashion and style questions from the audience.

Madonna’s Raising Malawi School Scrapped

Madonna’s charity organization, Raising Malawi, has had to scrap plans for a school that it sunk $3.8 million into and failed to get off the ground.

Raising Malawi was founded by Madonna and her friend and fellow Kabbalahist Michael Berg, with a goal of building a school in the impoverished nation of Malawi where the singer has adopted 2 children, her son, David and daughter, Mercy.

The project was in so much trouble an outside advisory organization, the Global Philanthropy Group, was hired to find out what was going so terribly wrong.

Trevor Neilson of the group said they found that the $3.8 million went to architects, office building space, salaries and 2 cars for employees not even hired.

“Despite $3.8 million having been spent by the previous management team, the project has not broken ground, there was no title to the land and there was, over all, a startling lack of accountability on the part of the management team in Malawi and the management team in the United States,” Neilson said. “We have yet to determine exactly what happened to all of that $3.8 million. We have not accounted for all the funds that were used.”

The Board of Directors of Raising Malawi, the executive director, Phillipe Van Den Bosche, who is also the boyfriend of Madonna’s trainer Tracy Anderson, and Anjimile Oponyo, who was chosen to head the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls.were all either replaced or fired.

“A thoughtful decision has been made to discontinue plans for the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, as it was originally conceived,” said Berg.

Madonna and the organization are regrouping and choosing new ways to help the country where few children, especially girls have the chance at education.

“There’s a real education crisis in Malawi,” she said. “Sixty-seven percent of girls don’t go to secondary school, and this is simply unacceptable. Our team is going to work hard to address this in every way we can.”

Kelly Osbourne For Material Girl: First Look!

The first ads for Material Girl featuring Kelly Osbourne have been released, and here they are for your viewing pleasure.  Could these be any more retro?  I think Kelly might actually be wearing some of Madonna‘s old clothes in these ads.  And where did they get that monstrous boom box?  Yes, kids, it’s true – we used to play music on those beasts back in the day.  Those were like our iPods.  Scary, I know.

So I’ve got to say that while I think Kelly looks cute, she’s way, way too over-Photoshopped.  And honestly, I think I prefer Taylor Momsen‘s ads better.  She’s a lot edgier, whereas Kelly seems to be trying to cover up her milk-fed, wholesome English lass vibe with some edgy-ness.  If that makes sense.   Oh, heck, let me shut up and let you look at the rest of Kelly’s ads.  Click on through and take a peek.
