Maggie Gyllenhaal Is Magnifique For ‘Got Milk?’

Maggie Gyllenhaal

Maggie Gyllenhaal is the latest celebrity to paint on the milk mustache and ask, “Got Milk?”  Leave it to Miss Maggie to do something different though.  Her ad, which was unveiled on Thursday, touts the nutritional value of the steamed milk in a latte.   (Perfect for those of us who don’t like drinking milk straight, and also a potential boon for coffee shops.)

Even though the term caffe latte is Italian, the campaign shows Maggie looking rather French in a black beret, accompanied by the following text:

Ooh la latte.

Start your day with something delicious and nutritious.  Surprise.  The milk in your morning latte provides essential nutrients that most of us are missing. C’est magnifique!

Maggie Gyllenhaal Stars In New Movie About Sex Toys

Well that got your attention, didn’t it?  It’s not what you think, or maybe it is, I’m not sure yet.  The lovely and quirky Maggie Gyllenhaal is currently at work on a new movie called Hysteria.  It’s the story of the invention of the vibrator.  No, Maggie doesn’t invent the vibrator.  She plays the girl who falls in love with the man who invented the device in the 19th century.

And really, ladies, could you blame that girl?  Actually, the vibrator was first developed as a medical cure for women who were diagnosed with “hysteria” (thus the title of the movie), whose symptoms included “anxiety, insomnia, irritability or nervousness.”     No word yet whether we get to see Maggie testing out any early prototypes.

Independent Spirit Awards Red Carpet: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Rosario Dawson Attends The Independent Spirit Awards 2010

Precious took off with another pack of statuettes at the Independent Spirit Awards Friday night.  I love the ISAs – they’re kind of like the anti-Oscars.   But just like the Academy Awards, the ISAs have their share of red carpet triumphs and disasters.   Here’s the highlights.

The good:  Rosario Dawson, flawless and simple in gray lace.  Gabourey Sidibe looking very elegant and really, really pretty.  And when did Maria Bello get so hot?!

The bad: Rachelle Lefevre wrapped in someone’s drapes. Ricki Lake… it would take someone with a hell of a lot of style to pull off a fringed cocktail dress, a leather jacket and pearls, and you are not that woman, hon.  Jodie Foster and Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) wearing the same jacketAlan Cumming with more makeup on than most of the women.   Brittany Snow wearing the linoleum flooring from some diner.

The ugly:  Maggie Gyllenhaal in whatever the heck that is.  A jumpsuit?  Oh, Maggie.   Was the saggy side boob really necessary?

And finally, the slutty:  Mariah Carey.  I swear, she could make a nun’s habit look skanky.  If she’d pick clothes that actually fit, it would improve things about 147%.

Maggie Gyllenhaal Muses About Parenting, Friendships & Work

maggie-gyllenhaal-fisher-price-event

Maggie Gyllenhaal is in London filming the sequel to Nanny McPhee, and she had a good long chat with Martyn Palmer of The Daily Mail to talk about being a mom, having friends outside Hollywood, and her secret career aspirations.

Nanny McPhee?  Maggie Gyllenhaal?  Whaaa?  Yeah, she explains it, sort of.  Read on.

On being a mom to (almost) three year old Ramona:

‘Oh, motherhood is all-consuming…I remember people saying, “Believe me, everything in your life is going to change…” And I thought, “Why? That’s such a bourgeois way of thinking.” And then you have a child and yes, everything changes. It affects the way we live, what we do and where we go – everything. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.’

On working with Emma Thompson on Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang:

‘Early on, Emma gave me a couple of notes. And she’s not directing me, she’s acting with me! If some other actor started giving me notes I would tell them to “**** off” – there is not one other actor I would allow that from. But they were fantastic notes – clear and totally helpful. I just thought to myself, “She’s teaching me and I’d be an idiot not to accept it.” And Emma’s what, 50? It would be silly of me not to acknowledge that she knows more than I do.

On what she really hopes to get out of being in this movie:

‘I’m really hoping that doing Nanny McPhee will bring me good nanny karma! I would like a nanny who would stay with me for five years through another child, a nanny I could trust, who would travel with me. Actually, Emma has been sharing her wonderful nanny with us while we’ve been here, which has been incredibly helpful.’

On balancing work and motherhood:

‘Ten or 15 years ago there was this idea that women could do everything, and that they should be able to have these great careers and be mothers too. And I think that was a very helpful way of looking at things for a while.

‘But now, with my generation, I think that there’s a sense of, “I can’t do everything, and nor should I have to. I need help and I need a husband and another set of hands, and even then I still might need help with babysitting.” Working and mothering is extraordinarily difficult. So that’s a big part of my character in Nanny McPhee – she can’t do everything.’

On maintaining friendships with non-Hollywood types:

‘I do know people who make movies, obviously.  But my two best girlfriends are nothing to do with it. One is an academic and the other is a photographer. They will come with me to a premiere and know that I’m barely going to be able to talk to them, and they don’t hold it against me. They know that they are there to hold my hand as opposed to be taken to a party, and they are cool with it. They see through the silliness of it all.’

On what she’d like to do if she weren’t an actor:

‘When you are at college you think you can do anything. I really liked school and I still have a fantasy of being an English teacher. I’m sure any teacher reading this would say, “This woman has no idea how hard it is!” but I think about the teachers who engaged me, and they changed my life. That’s a great thing to do.’

This is all very touching, but I am still not sure about this whole children’s movie thing.  Maggie, please don’t be losing your edge!  Anyhow, you can read the whole interview here.

Congrats To Maggie Gyllenhaal & Peter Sarsgaard!!

Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhaal

Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Saarsgard finally tied the knot on May 2nd.  The happy couple had a small wedding in Brindisi, Italy.  Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal were there for the special day.

Congrats to you guys!  It’s about time!  I am sure their little girl, Ramona who is now 2 enjoyed this celebration for mommy and daddy. :)

I am curious to see the pics from the wedding, I really hope Peter didn’t show up looking like he does in this pic!

Maggie Gyllenhaal Joins ‘Nanny McPhee’ Sequel

maggiegyllenhaalnanny_narrowweb__300x3850

Maggie Gyllenhaal has signed on for Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang with Emma Thompson.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has boarded “Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang,” …

The action this time centers on a group of kids who are evacuated from the city to a farm during wartime.

I didn’t see the first film, and I don’t think I ever could if only because of the horrible age makeup. I’m sure enough kids will want to see the sequel that will probably look equally as creepy.

Backseat Cuddler’s List Of Hottest Jewish Actresses

Yesterday we shared Page Six’s list of Hot Hebrew Hunks. We thought the Jewish ladies deserved some love, too, so today we’re bringing you our own list of Hot Hebrew Honeys!

1. Scarlett Johansson. With such a Nordic sounding last name, you wouldn’t immediately peg Scarlett as Jewish – but she is, on her mom’s side. And do we really need to explain why we chose her?

2. Maggie Gyllenhaal. Another misleading last name, but she’s also Jewish on her mom’s side. It’s no secret that I have a massive girl crush on Maggie.

3. Sarah Michelle Gellar. She’ll always be the hottest vampire slayer!

4. Sarah Silverman. Named one of People’s 100 Most Beautiful in 2008 – what more can we say?

5. Rachel Weisz. She was pregnant all throughout the 2006 awards season, and she looked amazing. Not many women can pull that off!

6. Michelle Trachtenberg. Buffy alums seriously got it going on!

7. Alyson Hannigan. Clearly Buffy rules this list!

8. Evan Rachel Wood. Who is, by the way, looking much MUCH better since she split up with Marilyn Manson.

9. Emmy Rossum. She has amazing poise and beauty for such a young woman.

10. Natalie Portman. Her turn as Padme Amidala aside, she’s talented as well as gorgeous.

And some honorable (some slightly old-school) mentions: Phoebe Cates, Winona Ryder, Carrie Fisher (in her Princess Leia days), Jennifer Connelly, Mila Kunis, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ginnifer Goodwin, Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Did we leave anyone out? Post in comments and let us know!

Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Parents In Deep ‘Doo-Doo’

Looks like a bit like poverty for the parents of Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Who would have thought this could happen to the parents of two major stars?

You’d think with a couple of A-list actor spawn, the Gyllenhaal parents would be living comfortably. You’d be wrong. According to divorce docs obtained by TMZ, Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Foner are in deep financial troubles. Foner, who is a screenwriter, claims she had to take out a loan during the writer’s strike because she doesn’t make much money otherwise. Foner says that throughout their marriage, the couple accumulated debt — including mortgage payments, home equity lines of credit against their two homes, several credit cards and “various other outstanding loans.” The couple separated back in January, but as recently as September Naomi complained to Stephen about their finances, to which he allegedly responded, “I have been clear that worse comes to worse I will let all of this collapse into ruin, just as I believe letting the markets crash and burn are the right approach.” Sounds like something the Joker would say, right?

The part I don’t get is why won’t Jake or Maggie help them out? Lord knows they have plenty of the green. So, what’s the story there? This breaking news is really sad. Isn’t family supposed to be there for each other? It’s 2 days until Thanksgiving. Where’s the love? Where is all the ‘thanks’? Maybe there even needs to be a little forgivenesss. C’mon Jake, Maggie! ‘Tis the season!!

Maggie Gyllenhaal To 18 Year Olds: VOTE!

As the election grows closer, more and more celebrities are jumping on the political bandwagon. Maggie Gyllenhaal is the latest – she appears in a public service announcement for the group 18 In ’08. This organization

is a peer-to-peer movement to register, engage, and mobilize America’s youth to vote and get involved in the political process.

Maggie’s nonpartisan message urges young people of all political persuasions to the polls. Although I cannot hold a candle to her, I will add my voice to that urging. The first time I ever voted was a thrill! Do it, folks – it’s your civic duty!

Maggie Gyllenhaal Doesn’t Care About What Critics Say

Maggie Gyllenhaal says that she doesn’t care about what critics say about her on the red carpet anymore. While at the UK premiere of The Dark Knight she wore a backless dress (or pants suit) and said that after the amount of time that it took for her to get ready she was ready to rock that red carpet.

“To be honest it takes a while to get ready and a lot of thought. But the amount of scrutiny is sometimes unbearable. This time I’ve learned – I’m not looking at any pictures, I’m not paying attention to anything anyone says about me because it hurts sometimes. I always just wear what I think is beautiful.”

Yes, Maggie you do look great. It would take a lot of courage to be scrutinized like that.
