‘Thor 2′ Promises More Intergalactic Action and More Natalie Portman

Thor 2 is definitely coming and Marvel has release some information on what to expect from the sequel.

Marvel president Kevin Feige told them (EW) that Thor 2 would “take Thor literally to other worlds,” and that the film will “primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds.”

The Nine Worlds, for those unfamiliar with the particulars of Norse mythology or the simplified Marvel Universe version, include Midgard (Earth), Asgard and  and Jotunheim, the realm of the Frost Giants. Those three worlds were seen in Thor. In total, the Nine Worlds are arranged on three dimentional planes like so:

Top level: Asgard , Alfheim, Vanaheim

Middle level: Midgard, Jotunheim, Nidavellir, Svartalfheim

Lower level: Muspelheim and Niffleheim

So obviously there are a lot of places to go to and see in the Marvel universe. The first Thor just gave us a sample of the intergalactic possibilities. This movie is scheduled to come out one year after The Avengers (July 2013), so it makes sense that we’d have interplanetary adventures with Thor, rather than sticking to Earth. I’m looking forward to seeing where they go with this one!

Mark Ruffalo’s ‘The Avengers’ Hulk Revealed (Image)

Here’s the first image of Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk in the upcoming movie The Avengers in the form of concept art. Click on the full banner below to see all the details:

This is cool concept art, the full banner showing all of the members is reminiscent of movie posters of the past. Mark Ruffalo will play a good Hulk I’m betting, although I’ve yet to see him really fly off the handle in a movie. By the way, if you saw Captain America: The First Avenger but didn’t stay through the end of the credits to see the teaser trailer for The Avengers, you missed out! Hopefully they will release it online soon. The Avengers will be released on May 4th, 2012.

First ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Teaser Trailer is Here!

Here’s the first official teaser trailer for the upcoming movie The Amazing Spider-Man.

I’ve been reading some of the feedback from this trailer and a lot of people are complaining about it being an origin story again. Personally, I think it looks good! I liked the first two of the first run of Spider-Man movies, but never liked Toby Maguire as the character. I think Andrew Garfield is far better suited for this role. The darker feel of this trailer is definitely a departure from the old movies as well. I have to admit though, the first person perspective of him running and jumping looks too cartoony. Hopefully the final version will look more realistic!

Fresh ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ Poster is the Best Yet

Here’s the latest poster for the upcoming Marvel movie Captain America: The First Avenger.

This poster looks much better than all of it’s previous incarnations, it actually makes the movie look more interesting. I have my doubts about this movie being everything it could be, but we’ll find out soon. Captain America: The First Avenger will be out in theaters this weekend on July 22nd!

Official First Look: ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ (Images)

Here’s are the official first images of the new movie The Amazing Spider-Man, thanks to Entertainment Weekly.

It certainly looks different than the previous movies, I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around it. Hopefully with the trailer release It’ll feel more like a solid movie. I’m sure as media saturation comes along the old movies will seem like the strange ones.

‘The Wolverine’ Shoots This Fall

The Wolverine starring Hugh Jackman has finally secured a replacement director and is getting set to shoot this fall.

James Mangold is 20th Century Fox’s and star Hugh Jackman’s choice to direct The Wolverine, ending one of the most competitive contests among directors for a major studio film. Negotiations are about to get underway, but I’m told that Mangold will take the helming job on the sequel to the X-Men spinoff film, a post that became vacant when Darren Aronofsky dropped out of the film in March.

This movie simply has to be better than X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I don’t think it’s possible that it could be as bad. Obviously I wasn’t a fan of that steaming pile of a movie, but with James Mangold directing I’m expecting a much better product. I’ve liked every movie I’ve seen that he’s made so far so I’m not expecting him to drop the ball on this one. This movie takes place in Japan for the most part, I wonder how much shooting will actually be done there?

First Official ‘Avengers’ Set Photo

Here’s the first official image from the set of The Avengers. Here’s the press release:

Production has commenced today in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated movie “Marvel’s The Avengers,” directed by Joss Whedon (“Serenity”) from a screenplay by Whedon.  The film will continue principal photography in Cleveland, Ohio and New York City. Robert Downey, Jr. (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2″) returns as the iconic Tony Stark/Iron Man along with Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”) as Thor, Chris Evans (“Captain America: The First Avenger”) as Captain America, Jeremy Renner (“Thor,” “The Hurt Locker”) as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo (“The Kids Are Alright”) as Hulk, Scarlett Johansson (“Iron Man 2″) as Black Widow, Clark Gregg (“Iron Man,” “Thor”) as Agent Phil Coulson, and Samuel L. Jackson (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2″) as Nick Fury.  Set for release in the US on May 4, 2012, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is the first feature to be fully owned, marketed and distributed by Disney, which acquired Marvel in 2009.

Ok so this isn’t exactly an action shot of superheroes clashing with super-villains, but hey, at least it’s an official set shot. The film is going to be big, but will it be overload? Regardless of how it turns out there will probably be people camping out for it, never underestimate the fanboy!

‘The Avengers’ Shoot Begins Today

Next summer’s major Marvel release The Avengers begins shooting today!

Yesterday director Joss Whedon wrote:

“Tomorrow we start shooting (I THINK I’m legally permitted to say that). Day one. That’s right. We’ll be shooting the pivotal death/betrayal/product placement/setting up the sequel/coming out scene, at the following address:”

And for a reminder of the movie’s incredible cast:

The Avengers features Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man; Chris Hemsworth as Thor; Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk;Chris Evans as Captain America; Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury; Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow; Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye; Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill; Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson; Tom Hiddleston as Loki; and Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig.

This movie is going to be huge, combining the stars of all the films leading up to it in one film is no small feat. I’m really hoping the script doesn’t end up feeling too fragmented with so many characters. Only time will tell, but in any case, this movie is going to be huge. The Avengers is set for release in theaters on May 4th, 2012.

New ‘X-Men: First Class’ Poster Looks Like a TV Show

Here’s the new poster for the upcoming prequel X-Men: First Class.

This poster looks like one of the older promos for the TV show Fringe, come to think of it, it looks like a lot of TV show promo shots I’ve seen. Fox is the channel I’m thinking of specifically, and the movie is being produced by 20th Century Fox, go figure. I hope this movie isn’t bad, as an X-Men fan I’m actually quite worried.

‘Thor’ Gets Glowing Early Reviews

The upcoming Marvel film Thor starring Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman is getting great reviews already! Here are some of the snippets from various reviewers:

-The hammer-hurling god of thunder kicks off this superhero summer with a bang.

-Thor is not a groundbreaking film but it’s a satisfying and entertaining spectacle that facilitates decent character and narrative development over its running time.

-With the occasional laugh bolstering the simple story, Thor remains wholly intriguing largely because of its cast.

-Two hammers up! As much of an A to B job as these films are, they’re all very solid commercial blockbusters and Thor is no exception – in fact visually it might just be the most impressive.

I’m glad to hear the movie is good. Of course I’m still going to have to decide for myself and watch the movie when it comes out, but I’m glad to hear that it doesn’t fall into pit of campy badness. From the very beginning I’ve been worried about this one, having a character who hurls a giant hammer just seemed too crazy to translate to live action, but apparently it works! I’m looking forward to this movie even more now. Thor will be in theaters on May 6th, 2011.
