Santa Monica, California hosted the Film Independent Spirit Awards 2013 on Saturday night (Feb 23rd) highlighting the best of the indie films for the year.

Silver Linings Playbook came out on top taking four wins, just one day ahead of the movie industry’s biggest night – the Academy Awards – giving the film more momentum.

The Indie Spirit Awards honored the David O. Russell flick about families struggling with bipolar disorder and awarded the movie Best Feature, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Female Lead for Jennifer Lawrence.

Matthew McConaughey, who was nominated for Best Actor for his role in Killer Joe, ended up taking the win for Best Supporting Actor in Magic Mike. The Best Actor trophy went to John Hawkes for The Sessions. Hawkes costar, Helen Hunt grabbed the award for Best Supporting Actress.

Other winners included The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Beasts of the Southern Wild and Amour. See the fill winners list below.

Camila Alves and Matthew McConaughey have shared a few more details about their new baby, who is evidently a boy.  The proud dad used Facebook to official confirm his arrival, saying:

“Camila Alves gave birth to our third child yesterday morning. Our son, Livingston Alves McConaughey was born at 7:43am on 12.28.12. He greeted the world at 9lbs. and 21 inches. Bless up and thank you for your well wishes. Happy New year, and just keep livin, Camila and Matthew McConaughey.”

I like Livingston, but it’s so different from his siblings’ names.  I thought for sure they’d pick another snappy, short name.  He’s bucking the trend in another way too:  Livingston’s birth weight was much higher than his sibs.  Levi was born at 7 lbs. 4 oz., and Vida was 7 lbs. 7 oz.  How’d that little guy get so big?

And baby makes five!  Sources are reporting that Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves have welcomed their third child.

The new little one, whose gender has not yet been confirmed, was born Friday morning (December 28) in Austin, Texas.  She (or he) joins siblings Levi (4) and Vida (2).  (One wonders if they’ll pick another two syllable name with four letters.  Any bets?)

Matthew and Camila met in 2006.  They got engaged last Christmas (2011), and married in June 2012.   Congratulations to the whole family on the new arrival!

 Planning on catching a movie this weekend?  Here’s a peek at new movies opening this weekend (Friday, October 5, 2012).

Taken 2 – Liam Neeson, Famke Janssen and Maggie Grace are back for this sequel to the 2008 flick.  Retired CIA operative Bryan Mills (Neeson) and his wife are taken hostage in retaliation for his killing one of his daughter’s kidnappers in Taken.

Frankenweenie – Tim Burton‘s latest animated film tells the tale of Victor Frankenstein, who uses science to reanimate his dead dog.  I’m incredibly surprised to find neither Helena Bonham Carter nor Johnny Depp in the Frankenweenie cast, but you will enjoy the voice talents of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Charlie Tahan and Christopher Lee.

Pitch Perfect – It’s men vs. women in a choral competition at the fictional Barden University.   Stars Brittany Snow, Anna Kendrick, Alexis Knapp, David Del Rio and Elizabeth Banks.

V/H/S – This “found footage” movie is an anthology of horror shorts “discovered” by a group of criminals who are hired to break into a house and steal a rare video tape.

The House I Live In – A documentary explores the war on drugs and the criminal justice system in the U.S. By Eugene Jarecki.

Butter (limited release) – Butter sculpture.  It’s an actual competitive event, and Jim Field Smith made a comedy about it.  The ensemble cast includes Jennifer Garner, Ty Burrell, Olivia Wilde, Hugh Jackman, Ashley Greene and Alicia Silverstone.

The Paperboy (limited release) – Matthew McConaughey plays a reporter investigating a crime involving a death row inmate (John Cusack).  The Paperboy was directed by Lee Daniels and also features Zac Efron, Nicole Kidman and Macy Gray.

The good news just keeps coming for Camila Alves & Matthew McConaughey.

The couple, who just tied the knot in Texas last month, announced another they are expecting a baby. This would be Camila and Matthew’s third child.

“Happy birthday America, more good news, Camila and I are expecting our 3rd child,” the Magic Mike actor tweeted. “God bless, just keep livin.”

Alves, 30, who has changed her last name to McConaughey, also tweeted the message to fans.

The 42 year-old actor and his new bride have been together for six years and have two children together: Vida, 2 1/2, and Levi, who turns 4 this week.

The honeymoon is over and it’s back to work for Matthew McConaughey.

The newlywed and his bride, Camila Alves (who is now going by Camila McConaughey,) took the red carpet at the Regal Cinemas in Los Angeles for the premiere of his new move Magic Mike.

McConaughey told reporters that playing a stripper and wearing a skimpy thong in front of crowds of women was an exercise in hoping for the best:

“It’s a huge leap of faith to trust a thong,” McConnaughey said at the Mike junket at the Four Seasons Hotel on Saturday (June 23).

“It’s your only protection up on stage. When I first tried it on, my body contorted. And I tried to get myself into every position to see what angles I was covered.”

McConaughey costars with lots of hot guys for the movie. Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, Alex Pettyfer and Joe Manganiello all take the stage as male strippers in the Steven Soderberg-directed film.

Magic Mike open Friday, June 29th.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves were wed at their Austin, Texas home on Saturday, June 9th in front of close friends and family.

The formal ceremony took place after a day of folks hanging out barefoot, playing lawn games and luxury camping on the couple’s property.

For the romantic sunset ceremony where the couple whispered their vows to each other; McConaughey, 43, donned a Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo while the bride chose a Brazilian designer. The wedding was officiated by a local pastor and a monk.

Alves is a Brazilian model and designer and her heritage was honored at the reception with a Brazilian steak house catering the menu. The couple’s yard had air-conditioned tents, horseshoe pits, barbeques and tether ball poles for guests to enjoy.

Among the celebrity guests reported to have attended the nuptials were Reese Witherspoon, Woody Harrelson and Richard Linklater.

The couple met in 2006 and were engaged this past Christmas. They have two children together: Levi, who will be 4 in July, and Vida, 2.

Alves, 29, will take her husband’s last name and become Camila McConaughey, according to People magazine.

It was definetly a happy holiday for Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves who became engaged this Christmas.

McConaughey posted a photo of the couple sharing a Christmas kiss to his WhoSay account and spread the news:

“just asked camila to marry me, merry Christmas,” the actor posted with the pic.

Alves, 29, who is a Brazilian model and hosted one season of Bravo‘s Sheer Genius, is the mother of the couple’s two children: Levi and Vida.

The 42 year-old Lincoln Lawyer star spoke to Esquire magazine about Camila and marriage earlier this year.

“I found the woman… I wanna make a family with, hopefully live our life out together,” McConaughey said.

McConaughey will be in the 2012 Steven Soderbergh film Magic Mike with Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Joe Manganiello. The story is based on Tatum’s life as a young man in Florida, before he made it in Hollywood, working as a male stripper.

Just when you think a movie about male strippers is heating up with some seriously good lookin’ beefcake (Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer) a few more hot hot hot guys enter the picture.

Matthew McConaughey, True Blood‘s Joe Manganiello and White Collar‘s Matthew Bomer have signed on for roles in Magic Mike to be directed by Steven Soderbergh.

Mike is semi-autobiographical of Tatum’s true past as a male dancer in Florida.

McConaughey will play a retired stripper who owns the club that the others work in. Pettyfer is the young guy, new on the scene with Tatum playing the more experienced dancer who takes Pettyfer under his wing and shows him the ropes (gosh, that sounded pornographic…)

Moving on.

Manganiello and Bomer are members of the male dance troupe.

I am happy with this cast. Well done.
