‘Arrested Development’ Heading Back To TV & A Movie Is In The Works
Arrested Development fans are getting closer to the long-awaited movie of the cancelled series and on Sunday they were given even more good news.
A fourth season – a mini season – is now coming together as creator Mitch Hurwitz confirmed that he is working on the project at the New Yorker Festival on October 2nd.
“Just creatively, I have been working on the screenplay for a long time and found that as time went by, there was so much more to the story,” explained Hurwitz. “In fact, where everyone’s been for five years became a big part of the story.
“So in working on the screenplay, I found even if I just gave five minutes per character to that back story, we were halfway through the movie before the characters got together.”
Although fans are quick to hop on to any morsel – it’s not a done deal. Hurwitz said he and director/producer Ron Howard were at “80 percent” of the way to a definite answer on the film, but there is a caveat:
“We don’t completely own the property, there are business people involved and studios and that kind of thing,” Hurwitz said of the snag.
Star Jason Bateman tweeted to fans more definitive news.
“It’s true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early ’13. VERY excited!” Bateman said.
Reuniting Bateman, Will Arnet, Jeffrey Tambor, Portia de Rossi, Michael Cera and all the cast would be quite a feat but hopefully they can make it happen.
