It looks so much like the old Green Hornet show it’s almost disappointing, but at least we get a look at the funky gun. This movie should be a lot of fun.

I really don’t know what to expect from this movie, I’m really hoping it’s good. Unfortunately I’m still not buying the whole Seth Rogen as a superhero thing.

‘Basterds’ Bad Guy Christoph Waltz to Play ‘Green Hornet’ Villain

christoph_waltz

Christoph Waltz, the bad guy from Inglourious Basterds has been cast as the villain in the upcoming film The Green Hornet.

The Austrian actor, who’s been fielding an avalanche of praise (including the best actor award at Cannes) for his role as a nefariously charming Nazi colonel in Quentin Tarantino’s latest film, has been cast as the heavy opposite Seth Rogen in Columbia’s latest feature about a masked crime fighter. Waltz joins Cameron Diaz and Asian pop star Jay Chou in the cast.

Rogen and Evan Goldberg wrote the screenplay, inspired by the radio series created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker in the 1930s. Michel Gondry is directing the potential franchise-starter for a December 2010 release.

His character in Inglourious Basterds was brilliant in my opinion, up there with some of the very best movie villains ever. I can’t wait to see what he pulls off in The Green Hornet.

‘Green Hornet’ Replaces Stephen Chow with Jay Chou

jaychougreen_hornet_movie_still

Stephen Chow will no longer be playing the character Kato in the upcoming film The Green Hornet, instead Jay Chou will play the part opposite Seth Rogen.

Taiwanese singer-actor Jay Chou has joined the cast of Columbia’s “The Green Hornet” opposite Seth Rogen in the role of sidekick Kato.

Chou replaces Hong Kong actor Stephen Chow in the role, originally made famous by Bruce Lee in the 1966-67 TV series.

I’m sure he’ll do a good job, it’s Seth Rogen as a superhero that I’m having a hard time imagining.

Cameron Diaz Offered Role in ‘Green Hornet’

Apparently Cameron Diaz is in talks to star in the upcoming film The Green Hornet opposite Seth Rogen.

Cameron Diaz is considering an offer to play the female lead in Green Hornet, opposite Seth Rogen. A deal hasn’t been sealed yet, but sources tell EW that she is in early talks for the role. Her reps at CAA declined comment. Michel Gondry is set to direct the film based on a script by Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg. Shooting is supposed to begin shortly, with a release date already set for July 9, 2010.

She’s a good choice, even thought we really don’t know much about the film. Here’s how I’m adding it up in my head: Michel Gondry the film’s director is excellent at directing surrealism in films (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and I think Cameron Diaz best role was in the surrealist film Being John Malkovich. Now, that’s not to say The Green Hornet will be surrealist, but it just makes sense to me.

He’s a great filmmaker, it will be interesting to see what a documentary is like from him as opposed to the surreal films he usually makes (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).

Seth Rogen Talks ‘Green Hornet’

seth-rogen-green-hornet

Here’s a recent interview with Seth Rogen about his upcoming film, The Green Hornet.

We talked to the in-demand actor on Tuesday at the press day for Observe and Report about the superhero film.

Q: When does “The Green Hornet” start shooting?
Seth Rogen: Right now the end of June. That is our tentative start date.

Q: What is Stephen Chow’s involvement at this point?
Rogen: He’s kind of our mascot. (laughs) He may be Kato. I’m not 100% sure if that’s the case, but it’s a very likely possibility. I’m not sure. Honestly, we’re kind of in the very early phases right now. We’re just putting those elements in place so I’m being honest. I honestly don’t know yet.

Q: Are you going to stick to the original “Green Hornet” concept?
Rogen: He’s actually the Lone Ranger’s grandnephew. The Lone Ranger is owned by Jerry Bruckheimer so that probably limits the amount of involvement we can actually have in that movie. We were inspired by the original. We kind of took what we thought was good and left what we didn’t. Honestly, we didn’t feel any real obligation living up to the original because the radio plays totally different than the TV show which is different than the comic book. There is no real set way.

Since the concept is pretty open, I’m sure director Michel Gondry will make it bright and intriguing as he does with all his films.
