Alice Braga Joining Damon and Foster for Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Elysium’

Alice Braga is set to join Matt Damon and Jodi Foster in the upcoming Neill Blomkamp sci-fi film Elysium.

The latest addition to the cast of Neill Blomkamp‘s mysterious second film Elysium is Alice Braga, who has been seen in Predators, Repo Men, The Rite, and City of God. As with most of the cast of the film, we know nothing about her role at this point. Indeed, apart from the fact that the script contains some of the same blend of sci-fi and topical commentary that characterized District 9, and the fact that it is set 150 years in the future and involves Jodie Foster as the head of state of an alien planet, we know very little about Elysium as a whole.

Good to see more casting news for this secretive project. I really enjoyed District 9, I’m betting Elysium will be just as good. Braga is a solid actor, I’m sure she’ll bring passion to whatever role she’s playing in the film. Unfortunately Elysium isn’t scheduled to be released until 2013, so we’ve got some waiting to do.

William Fichtner Cast in Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Elysium’

William Fichtner has be cast in Neill Blomkamp‘s sci-fi film Elysium.

Variety is reporting that character actor William Fichtner is in final talks to join District 9 director Neill Blomkamp‘s second feature Elysium. Fichtner will join Jodie FosterMatt DamonSharlto Copley and Wagner Moura. The actor is probably best known for his television roles: Alex Mahone on Prison Break, Sheriff Tom Underlay on Invasion and Phil Yagoda on Entourage. Fichtner has also appeared in many films, including Heat, Contact, Armageddon, Go, Pearl Harbor, CrashThe Longest Yard, The Dark Knight (as the BankManager), Date Night and Drive Angry 3D.

Fichtner is one of hollywood’s most under-rated actors, you’ve seen his face countless times in TV shows and movies. He’s a very dynamic actor so I’m sure he’s a great choice to work with Blomkamp. The cast is amazing and the director is unique, I’m really hoping for another great movie like District 9 was.

‘District 9′ Director Gets a New Otherworldly Sci-Fi Project

neill3

Neill Blomkamp the director of this summer’s suprise hit District 9 is back at work getting ready to make his next sci-fi movie set in another world.

Media Rights Capital has committed to the next film by “District 9” writer/director Neill Blomkamp.

The untitled science fiction pic will begin production by mid-2010. Bill Block will produce.

Blomkamp will immediately start writing and preparing the visual effects. The film will be modest by sci-fi standards, but it will certainly cost more than “District 9,” the under-$30 million budget film that grossed more than $184 million worldwide.

“MRC is letting me make the film I want to make and that is by far the most important thing here,” Blomkamp said. “The film will hopefully be commercial, but it is very much a singular film, that comes directly from me. `District 9’ was a bit different. I was learning the process then, under Peter Jackson’s wing. He had control, but was awesome enough to let me make the film I wanted to. Bill’s producing this with MRC, so the difference is Pete’s involvement.”

Hope Blomkamp makes his new film as well as he made District 9, that was one of this year’s more enjoyable moviegoing experiences. Sounds like he’s thrilled to have all this creative freedom, I wonder if it’ll be shot documentary style like District 9.
