Oscars 2013: Kerry Washington In Miu Miu

Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington brightened up the 2013 Oscars red carpet in a dress that was as lovely as the actress wearing it.   Her coral Miu Miu gown featured an embellished bodice and a short train – a very elegant and unique look.   I applaud Kerry’s stylist for matching her lipstick almost exactly to the shade of her gown.  Another all around fashion win.

Oscars 2013: Jennifer Aniston in Valentino

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston made sure everyone would notice her at the Oscars!  She chose a Valentino dress in fire engine red for the awards show.  Jennifer wears Valentino pretty regularly, so it’s a nice, safe choice for her.  I like the color a lot; it’s very flattering for her.  However, I’m not sure how much I like the princess cut on her.  It doesn’t do a whole lot for me.   Is she trying out a new silhouette in anticipation of her wedding?

Speaking of which, she and fiance Justin Theroux looked very cute together.  Check them  out after the jump.

Oscars 2013: Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence took home the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook – a real coup that will only put the 22 year old in even greater demand.  For her big night, she chose a white, strapless Dior gown fit for a princess.  You’d think she’d have a hard time walking in that pouf of a skirt, and she did, falling on the steps as she climbed on stage to accept her award.  No worries, though:  she pulled it off with grace.  The odds were definitely in her favor.

Oscars 2013: Catherine Zeta-Jones In Zuhair Murad

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones went for the gold for the Oscars red carpet.  She was all glitter and glamour in a Zuhair Murad gown that featured a swirling gold design.  The pattern is reminiscent of the Art Deco period, don’t you think?

Oscars 2013: Adele In Jenny Packham

 Adele

Singer Adele wore black for her turn on the Oscars red carpet, but there was nothing basic about her choice of gown.  Her elegant, beaded dress with three-quarter sleeves was designed by Jenny Packham.  It was the perfect dress for a winner, and win she did:  Adele took the Best Original Song Oscar for her song “Skyfall,” from the movie of the same name.  Well played!

Oscars 2013: Reese Witherspoon In Louis Vuitton

Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon rarely disappoints on the red carpet, and tonight was no exception.  She wore a slim, strapless gown by Louis Vuitton for the 2013 Oscars.  Reese’s blue dress featured black accents and a short gathered train.  It showed off her post-baby body, which looks awesome AND normal (she has hips!).   Evidently her daughter Ava helped pick Mom’s dress – proof that she’s inherited her mom’s fashion sense.

Oscars 2013: Amy Adams In Oscar de la Renta

Amy Adams

Red carpet favorite Amy Adams looked like a real princess at the 2013 Academy Awards.  She wore a dove gray ball gown by Oscar de la Renta with a sweetheart bodice and a fabulous, fluffy skirt with a long train.   This dress could have overwhelmed tiny Amy, so she wisely kept the rest of her look understated and elegant.

Seth MacFarlane Grabs 2013 Oscars Hosting Gig

Family Guy, The Cleveland Show and American Dad creator Seth MacFarlane will add Oscar host to his resume with the 2013 telecast.

Yes. That is correct – MacFarlane was chosen to celebrate the Hollywood establishment at the February broadcast of the 85th Annual Academy Awards.

MacFarlane, who joins the pantheon of Billy Crystal, Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, Whoopi Goldberg and Jon Stewart as hosts, had this to say about his upcoming gig:

“It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars,” said MacFarlane in a statement. “My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen roast.”

I think this could work well. Whether you like MacFarlane’s particular brand of humor aside, he could tweak the celebs in the audience just enough to keep the show from being boring. He did a good job hosting Saturday Night Live recently and he has a great feel for musical numbers (see FG). He just has to translate that to Oscars audience and he could walk away a winner.
