Jennifer Hudson performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida today. This is her first public appearance since the tragic death of her mother, brother and nephew back in October. Her performance was stunning.

Confident and immaculately turned out in a dark blue military style jacket, long white top and black leggings, Hudson gave a performance for the ages, easily hitting the song’s notoriously tricky melody and nailing a pair of long notes at the end that sent shivers through the TV. Pouring her heart into the music on the year’s largest TV stage, Hudson instantly set a new standard.

Next up for Jennifer is the Grammy’s where she is up for four awards. I am so glad Jennifer is back!

Just earlier this year super hippie group Phish reunited to rock stages much to their fan base’s delight, and next year they prepare to return to their grass roots by headlining the Bonnaroo music festival.  The lineup for the November festival won’t officially be released until February, Rolling Stone’s all but confirmed the big news.

Even more exciting for readers of this site probably, RS is speculating also that this year’s Coachella music festival in the UK will feature a performance by Britney Spears (the returned pop star is off between tour stops on both the day before and after the April 18th date).

It’s clearly unexpected for a pop star to be fluent in all the countries they tour’s native tongues, so it’s understandable for our little corn-fed darling Britney Spears to be a bit lost in translation on the Japanese pop music show Hey Hey Hey. It’s still amusing nonetheless.

It always reminds me of the classic Saturday Night Live clip with Chris Farley as an American tourist playing in an unknowingly bizarre human-torture Japanese game show (hosted by Mike Myers).

Brit also performed “Womanizer” for the crazed (and screaming…loudly) fan base.

First Batman breaks records, and now a record that thus-far has been held by Chris Brown is about to be broken by none other than Miley Cyrus. We live in a time when festivals are a dime-a-dozen/season. No longer are the times when a Woodstock or a Monterey Pop Festival were cutting edge. Some might say festivals and live shows of the sort are the safest means of making money too (due to digital downloads and shifting album sales). Anyhoo– I’m really feeling Duffy and her debut album Rockferry. Taking the stage yesterday at the Cardigan Bay, UK venue, she brought her 60’s flair to the masses and while she may just be a bit of a butter-face, I’m feelin the overall look (mom shorts and all). Is Duffy the clean-and-sober answer to Amy Winehouse (last year’s UK 60’s/retro smash)?
