Ellen DeGeneres & Portia De Rossi Show Off Their Home In November’s Architectural Digest

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi give readers a glimpse of their super gorgeous home in the November issue of Architectural Digest.

The Beverly Hills home was recently put on the market for $49 million but DeGeneres and de Rossi opened the doors of the 9 bedroom mansion on 2.78 acres for AD before listing the property.

DeGeneres tells AD she has a hard time keeping track of the homes she’s owned – 7 in the last 7 years, one for each year of her relationship with de Rossi – but she mentions how her father dreamed of owning and not renting.

“We never had a house when I was growing up,” DeGeneres explains, settling into an armchair on one of several terraces with panoramic views of L.A. “We always rented. But my father would dream, and we used to look at houses all the time. I’d pick out which bedroom would be mine and get all excited.”

DeGeneres & de Rossi purchased the home in 2007 from Will & Grace creator Max Mutchnick after he invited the couple over to watch American Idol. Previous owners of the 9,200 square foot home include Oscar nominated actor Laurence Harvey and Joan Collins.

‘Arrested Development’ Heading Back To TV & A Movie Is In The Works

Arrested Development fans are getting closer to the long-awaited movie of the cancelled series and on Sunday they were given even more good news.

A fourth season – a mini season – is now coming together as creator Mitch Hurwitz confirmed that he is working on the project at the New Yorker Festival on October 2nd.

“Just creatively, I have been working on the screenplay for a long time and found that as time went by, there was so much more to the story,” explained Hurwitz. “In fact, where everyone’s been for five years became a big part of the story.

“So in working on the screenplay, I found even if I just gave five minutes per character to that back story, we were halfway through the movie before the characters got together.”

Although fans are quick to hop on to any morsel – it’s not a done deal. Hurwitz said he and director/producer Ron Howard were at “80 percent” of the way to a definite answer on the film, but there is a caveat:

“We don’t completely own the property, there are business people involved and studios and that kind of thing,” Hurwitz said of the snag.

Star Jason Bateman tweeted to fans more definitive news.

“It’s true. We will do 10 episodes and the movie. Probably shoot them all together next summer for a release in early ’13. VERY excited!” Bateman said.

Reuniting Bateman, Will Arnet, Jeffrey Tambor, Portia de Rossi, Michael Cera and all the cast would be quite a feat but hopefully they can make it happen.

Portia de Rossi Celebrates Her Vegan Diet In VegNews July/August 2011

Portia de Rossi

Portia de Rossi – pardon me, Portia DeGeneres – is the clean-living cover girl for the July/August 2011 issue of VegNews.   I don’t know about you, but I didn’t even recognize her in this photo.  I can’t even figure out what it is exactly, but I stared at this magazine in line at the grocery store for a long time, and keep looking at it, and I still have to rely on the caption to tell me for sure that this is Portia.

She talks about her choice to live a vegan life and curiously compares it to being gay.   Portia says:

“Listen, I think it’s more difficult to be vegan than gay.  I think people have a harder time accepting it; people feel more uncomfortable with a vegan at their dinner table than they do a lesbian. It’s confronting. It’s kind of suggesting that what someone else is doing is bad or wrong, and it hits them on a more personal level. … If somebody is sitting there eating a steak watching you eat polenta, they’re thinking that you’re trying to preach to them or you’re trying to convert them in some way. Whereas with being gay, I don’t think anyone’s concerned that that’s the agenda. ‘Hey, Mom, you also have to be gay. I’m gay and so should you be!’  Certainly when I told her that I was vegan, it forced her to look at her habits.”

Well then.

OK, for starters.   Even though Portia’s purportedly talking about what other people think of veganism, are her comments actually describing what she thinks of flesh eaters?  I’ve got lots of vegan friends, and I’ve never once felt that their dietary choices force me to look at my habits.  Years ago, I followed a vegan diet for several months for health reasons, and never felt that I was confronting anyone or suggesting that they were wrong with my choice of diet.

But that’s not even the main beef – pun kind of intended – I have with what Portia’s saying here.  She’s equating sexual orientation and diet.  By and large, for most people, how you eat is a choice.  Unless you’ve got food allergies or other health reasons that mandate you eat in a certain way, you’re choosing the foods you eat.  Most LGBT people, on the other hand, would tell you that their sexual orientation is not a choice.    I wonder if Portia feels it’s a choice for her?

Portia de Rossi Legally Changing Name To DeGeneres

Portia de Rossi has filed papers in the L.A. Superior Court to change her name to Portia DeGeneres.  She married Ellen DeGeneres in 2008 and wants her name to reflect that.

Portia de Rossi Apologizes For Marrying Ellen Degeneres

Her new name will be Portia Lee James DeGeneres.  There is no reason that a court would have to deny the name change.  So an early congrats to Portia and Ellen DeGeneres!

Ellen Degeneres Wins At The GLAAD Awards

Portia de Rossi and Ellen Degeneres Leaving Madeo Holding Hands

Ellen Degeneres and wife, Portia de Rossi, were seen leaving Madeo last night in Los Angeles holding onto hands and looking very dressed up. The two of them make a great couple.

Earlier on in the night they made an appearance at the GLAAD ( Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) Awards where Ellen won an award for her show that talked about her wedding to Portia. I am so glad that Ellen is getting honored with this award. When she finally was able to talk about Portia on her show it got better. She is happy and feeling free now.

Portia de Rossi Apologizes For Marrying Ellen Degeneres

Portia de Rossi is so funny! She currently has a new show called, Better Off Ted, and was on the Jimmy Kimmel Show the other night promoting it. Portia also debuted her PSA to the Prop 8 people apologizing for being so selfish marrying the love of her life, Ellen Degeneres.

Here’s a rough copy of the transcript:

Hi, I am Portia de Rossi. When I got married all I was thinking about was my own joy at committing to love my partner for the rest of my life. I didn’t think about all the people that I was hurting by getting married. That was selfish.

So, I want to apologize to all those people whose lives have been affected by me getting married.

To Elaine Sutler, who suffered painful and debilitating paper cuts from holding up her simple message of intolerance. To Amanda Milch, who came down with pneumonia while protesting my marriage in the rain.

To George Binder, whose mind was so tragically blown by the idea of gays getting married, he has to spend the rest of his life wearing this hat. To Buddy the dog, who was forced to wear this ridiculous sign even though he, himself, is gay.

Thanks to Proposition 8, good people and animals like these will never again be subjected to the horrors of gay people getting married. But for me, it is too late. I know there is no way I can make up for the pain I have caused. All I can say is: I am sorry.

Paid for Married Gay People Who Are Sorry. And The National Coalition of Bonobo Chimps.

I think this is amazing. I think everyone should get a chance to marry the one that they love. In Canada it has been legal for a while. There is never protests here to try and stop it.

Ellen Degeneres & Portia de Rossi Hit Madeo

Portia de Rossi and Ellen Degeneres Holding Hands

Wife and wife, Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi, were spotted at Madeo restaurant last night.  I think the two of them are such a cute couple. But I think Ellen is one of the best comedian’s around. When I was really sick a couple years back she kept me laughing.

Portia is scheduled to appear as a guest on Ellen’s talk show for her new show, Better Off Ted, I imagine that this will be the episode to watch. Portia says she’s nervous about what questions might be asked during the interview…

“It seems like a very awkward interview. I mean she’ll make it flawless and I’m excited to talk about the show. I just hope she doesn’t ask any personal questions. That’s off limits. That’s what I’m worried about. She could ask anything she wanted.”

It’s neat to know that even Ellen is unpredictable to her wife. I’m sure Ellen won’t embarass her because she still has to go home to her at night.

How The Celebrities Plan On Spending Inauguration Day

While I watch the Inauguration of Barack Obama, and get many shivers up and down my spine I thought I would find out how the celebrities are spending the day. Today opens up so many doors and I’m confident that this is a good thing for everyone that Obama is President.

MEGAN MULLALLY-”I’m not going to go, but I’m definitely going to watch. Are you kidding me? It’s history. I feel really hopeful about the whole thing. I just feel like, it’s hard to say it without sounding like a big gigantic clich, but don’t you feel like there’s change? I feel very hopeful about everything. I think it’s really great the way he’s built his cabinet and the diversity. It feels very new.”

CONAN OBRIEN-Im like that guy that the test is tomorrow and its 10 p.m. the night before.

AMY POEHLER-Ill be watching, definitely watching. Just celebrating, celebrating, celebrating.

DEMI LOVATO-On performing at the Disney Channels Kids’ Inaugural: We Are the Future concert: “It”s not just another president. What’s great about having the Disney Channel at the inauguration is now kids can be able to realize what a great experience this will be I’m ridiculously nervous to a point where I don’t know what I’ll be able to do with myself. And I really hope I don’t fall.”

PORTIA DE ROSSI-Dont we all have so many hopes for that poor man?

KIEFER SUTHERLAND-Im going to watch it on the telly like most other people.

NICK JONAS-”It’s absolutely an honor to be able to perform. We’ve always talked about a future in the White House one day, so to be able to go back should be fun. What we’re doing is all for the children and families of the military … We know that Sasha and Malia [Obama] are fans of ‘Burnin’ Up’ which is probably what we’ll playing.

JENNIFER BEALS-”I’ll be there. I started working for the campaign during the primaries. Then I went to Ohio to speak. I went to Pennsylvania twice, knocked on doors, phone banks, talked to five, 10, 500 people, just did as much as I could. He means the change that you want to see in yourself. The economy is first and foremost, obviously.”

PAULA ABDUL-Im going to be in Tampa on Home Shopping. Im going to watch with my friends.

JASON BATEMAN-I”m excited … we’re putting a new face on the leadership of this country, somebody representing all of us Americans that is a bit more appealing to the rest of the world, somebody who comes from a bit more of a common-sense position. Thats been lost for the last eight years. In fact, I’m going to be shooting a PSA for him, a pledge — youre trying to pledge what you plan on doing to sort of better the country. Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, a bunch of people [are going] to make it. Were going to deliver it to Obama, I think, on Inauguration Day.

DENIS LEARY-Were going to be watching at work. Larenz [Tate] is going so my plan is to call him on his cell phone as often as I can that day and see if hes finagled himself into the White House or not. Were just looking for ashtrays and souvenirs that he can steal and bring back on set because he has to be back at work the next morning.

AMBER TAMBLYN-Its going to be amazing. I have friends flying to New York tomorrow, who are going to take the train down to D.C. Theyre coming from L.A. to go to it. Everyone is doing something for it.”

EDIE FALCO-”I was invited. I’d give my right arm but we’re in the middle of production, so we’re going to watch it on set.”

JIMMY FALLON-Im doing Ellen on Tuesday and then after that I guess Im just going to watch it. I guess Ill just watch it on TV but Im excited about it. Change is good.

SCOTT FOLEY-I hope to watch it if Im not working. I dont have any plans specifically for the inauguration aside from the same kind of plans I had during the election, turn the TV on and be a part of history that way.

SHIRLEY MANSON-”Hell, yeah, of course. I’ve got my Obama T-shirt ready. I’m going to wear it the whole way through. Like most of my friends and people that I know, I’m really excited about his possibilities and potential.”

SETH MacFARLANE-”Its going to be a clusterf–k, but Ill be watching. We all fought hard to make this happen. Heres my theory: Its going to take one term just to undo everything that George Bush has f–ked up. And by the way, not just George Bush but Reagan. too So I think, step one, we have to admit to ourselves we have to give Obama two terms, and we have to let the Democrats continue to undo everything thats gone wrong since the 80s. My fear is that eight years will roll by, assuming he gets elected a second term, and theyll go, Why didnt he fix everything completely? And theyll elect Sarah Palin, who will completely take the country to s–t, and if that happens, we do not deserve to be the dominant power any longer.”

I know everyone is going to want to revel in this day of history. It’s great that the world has become open-minded enough to allow an African-American President. Obama Rocks!
