Ricky Gervais Will Be Back As 2012 Golden Globes Host

He put a lot of celebrities on edge but garnered a huge amount of press so the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has asked Ricky Gervais to return for a third time as host of the 2012 Golden Globes.

The British comic took aim at everyone last year (Scientologists, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp and their film The Tourist, and the HFPA itself) and HFPA president Phillip Berk said immediately afterward that Gervais had “crossed the line” with some of his “unacceptable” jokes.

Included in his most-talked about barbs:

“I haven’t even seen ‘The Tourist.’ Who has? But it must be good because it’s nominated, so shut up, okay? And I’d like to crush this ridiculous rumor that the only reason ‘The Tourist’ was nominated was so that the foreign press could hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That was not the only reason — they also accepted bribes.”

Of “Sex and the City 2,” he said, “I was sure the Golden Globe for special effects would go to the team that airbrushed that poster. Girls, we know how old you are. I saw one of you in an episode of ‘Bonanza.’ ”

Gervais may have ruffled a lot of feathers but he earned 17 million viewers last year for the broadcast – the same as his first year hosting. He may well top that this time around because let’s face it – people will probably tune in to see what he says. He sure gave the show an interesting edge!

Ricky Gervais returns to host the Golden Globes and Billy Crystal will emcee the Oscars – could this actually be a good year to watch the awards shows?

Steve Carell Is Exiting ‘The Office’ But What’s Up With Will Ferrell?

Steve Carell is finishing up his days at The Office.

Carell’s Michael Scott proposed to Holly (Amy Ryan) in a candlelit (and sprinkler raining) office on tonight’s “Garage Sale” and then duo announced they were heading off to Colorado.

The big question remains who will be the next Scranton Branch manager?

After tonight’s episode, the announcer popped on to say “Well, well, well. Look who’s gonna be the new boss” and out steps WILL FERRELL.

Ferrell gave Carell a big hug and twitter was immediately ablaze with the possibility of the new addition.

Now the casting of Ferrell in a four episode arc has been anticipated and along with Ricky Gervais and Will Arnett having guest spots on the season finale, but there has been no official announcement that Ferrell is permanently joining the Dunder-Mifflin team.

So what do you think? Is this all a big tease? Will we see another boss next season?

The next new episode of The Office isn’t until April 17th, so we’ve got lots of time to speculate.

Next Year’s ‘Golden Globe Awards’ May Not Happen

The Golden Globe Awards this year managed to stir up a lot of conversation because of the scalding jokes of host Ricky Gervais. Now the show is in danger of not happening next year because of a lawsuit.

In laying out their proposed schedules for handling the case, lawyers for Dick Clark Productions saw it coming to trial Dec. 1. The press association lawyers thought March 5, 2012, was a more realistic trial date.

But neither date, the association’s lawyers pointed out, would allow “sufficient time to take reasonable commercial steps for the production and distribution of the television broadcast of the 69th annual Golden Globes Awards Show.”

Next year’s show, the association lawyers said, is tentatively planned for Jan. 8 or 15. This year’s broadcast was Jan. 16.

I’m sure they will find out a way to amicably make it work, how do you just not hold an award show after 68 years in a row? I guess it’s possible that the show could get cancelled, but it would be kind of sad. What do you think? Could you live without the Globes?

Jennifer Lopez Calls Ricky Gervais “Gutsy”

Jennifer Lopez took the stage at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards as a presenter with Alec Baldwin and before they went on, Lopez gave host Ricky Gervais a warning about any jokes he might think of about her. The feisty singer told Access Hollywood:

“He’s very gutsy, it takes a lot of guts to get up there and make the comments he made and go for that type of comedy,” she said. “I’m sure in his mind it was all in good fun. But in the room, being in the room it was like, eek… Then, when I go backstage to present, I’m backstage with Alec [Baldwin], we’re about to walk out, and Ricky shows up. I say, ‘Listen! I will kill you, you understand, I am from New York, my husband fights, we both fight, we will beat you up after the show… with a couple of bleep bleeps in there.”

Lopez goes on to say that she’s been in the business so long, she’s pretty immune to most stuff people say. She says Gervais was funny most of the time but a couple of the jokes were below the belt. Overall Lopez had a great sense of humor about the night.

Check out the video below to hear her talk about the night and her kids reactions to her spray tan (so cute!)

Ricky Gervais To Raise A Pint Again At Golden Globes 2011

Comedian Ricky Gervais did such a splendid job this past winter, The Golden Globes are having him host again. While the ceremony does not take place until January 2011, the unusually early announcement isn’t surprising as viewership was up 12% with his antics at the podium.

“As viewers discovered with our last awards telecast, Ricky’s surprising and unpredictable humor is a great fit for the Globes which will continue as a live event across the nation,” said Paul Telegdy, president of alternative at NBC. “He’s a true force of nature with a wicked sense of humor who always keeps everyone on their toes waiting for the unexpected.”

Let’s be honest, how much do you remember of any host from year to year – but Gervais got quite a memorable zing in when The Office star sipped a beer and said: “I like a drink as much as the next man… unless the next man is Mel Gibson.”

Ricky Gervais Set to Host the Golden Globes

The hilarious Ricky Gervais will be hosting the next Golden Globe Awards.

Ricky Gervais has been tapped to host the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards, which airs live on NBC on Jan. 17 from the Beverly Hilton.

The telecast hasn’t had a host since 1995.

Gervais, who co-created the BBC version of “The Office,” has proven adept at awards show banter during his recent appearances on the Emmys.

“Ricky is certainly one of the funniest people on the planet and has provided some of the most hilarious and memorable awards show moments in recent memory,” said Paul Telegdy, exec vp alternative programming at NBC and Universal Media Studios. “His unique comedic style will enhance the only awards show that brings together television and film stars to celebrate entertainment’s biggest night of the year.”

Gervais is a funny man, he’ll be a great choice for the first host in 15 years. It’s hard to believe awards season is going to be rolling around again soon. This is the time to start looking for all those great films that have to be released by the end of the year.
