Ridley Scott’s New ‘Blade Runner’ Gets a Screenwriter

There is a new Blade Runner movie coming from director Ridley Scott and it looks like it’s getting writer.

While nobody is quite sure what Ridley Scott’s new Blade Runner film will be just yet we may know who is writing it.

Sources tell Twitch that Scott Burns – writer of Contagion andThe Bourne Ultimatum – has been identified as the top choice to write the picture by both Scott himself, his producers at Alcon and the project’s backers at Warner Brothers and that all parties are now involved in active talks to make it happen.

To me, the whole idea of a new Blade Runner movie just doesn’t seem like a good idea. It’s one of those classic films that really shouldn’t be messed with. The fact that Ridley Scott is doing the film certainly softens the blow, but I’m still not really liking the idea. It’s hard to imagine how they will keep that same universe in place given the way real life technology has advanced. Time will tell with this one, what do you think?

‘Life in a Day’ Trailer Looks Inspiring

Here’s the trailer for the upcoming film Life in a Day from producer Ridley Scott.

The concept is clear, the images are cute and interesting I’m just curious how a story is told here. The footage is from random people all over the world so I see it being inspiring, but very fragmented. In any case it’s a cool concept, and an easy way for the producers to make money from other people working for free!

‘Alien’ Prequel Becomes ‘Prometheus’ Starring Michael Fassbender

Ridley Scott was planning to make a prequel to Alien when he started the development of this film, but now it’s called Prometheus. The film is no longer related to the Alien series but Michael Fassbender is set to take on the title role.

Michael Fassbender has signed on to star opposite Noomi Rapace in Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus. The science fiction project set-up at 20th Century Fox, was originally developed as an Alien prequel. Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) will play Elizabeth Shaw, and Fassbender will be playing an android.

I’m very curious to see what this movie is going to be like, especially since it was supposed to be a prequel before. Ridley Scott does do sci-fi well, so I’m expecting something really good here. This one is out in theaters June 8, 2012.

First ‘Robin Hood’ Trailer Fails to Excite

Robin Hood Image

Here’s the very first trailer for the upcoming film Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe.

Ok, so if the commentary and titles didn’t tell me this was a movie about Robin Hood I would have never guessed it from the visuals. This looks so much like Gladiator it’s a little strange, I hope this script is really good but the trailer looks pretty bland. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this, I’m just not as excited as I would like to be.

Angelina Jolie and Leonardo DiCaprio Starring Together in New ‘Gucci’ Film?

leonardoangelina

A new film about the murder of Maurizio Gucci is in the works from filmmaker Ridley Scott. Apparently Leonardo DiCaprio is likely to be cast as Gucci and Angelina Jolie as his murderous wife!

Variety and EW are both reporting on the film tonight. Variety first had the news that Angelina Jolie is being courted to play Patrizia Gucci, who was sentenced to 29 years in the slammer for plotting the death of her former husband Maurizio. But EW has the news that Leonardo DiCaprio is being pursued to play the slain fashion magnate. The two would make an unlikely couple, but since she (reportedly) has him gunned down, I guess that aspect doesn’t matter so much.

Both outlets report that the script is still being worked over. The current draft is by Charles Randolph, but Variety says a new writer will be hired to craft a new draft, with an eye towards a vague 2010 start date.

Sounds like it could be a really good movie, talk about putting together some serious talent. I really hope this all comes to fruition. I’ll keep you posted on this one.

Ridley Scott Officially Returning to Direct ‘Alien’ Prequel

ridley-scottalien_from_the_movie

Ridley Scott, director of the original Alien is set to direct a prequel to the classic film.

Twentieth Century Fox is resuscitating its “Alien” franchise. The studio has hired Jon Spaihts to write a prequel that has Ridley Scott attached to return as director.

Spaihts got the job after pitching the studio and Scott Free, which will produce the film.

The film is set up to be a prequel to the groundbreaking 1979 film that Scott directed. It will precede that film, in which the crew of a commercial towing ship returning to Earth is awakened and sent to respond to a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. The crew discovers too late that the signal generated by an empty ship was meant to warn them.

This is great news for fans of the original film, hopefully his hand in the picture will give it a much more authentic and original feel than the most recent sequels. I just hope they don’t go overboard with the CGI, I want to see technologically advanced puppets!

Looks pretty standard period stuff. It’s all about the quality of the script with this one. Hopefully it’s not all just action.

The new Robin Hood film starring Russell Crowe, Nottingham, now has a sheriff.

34-year-old British actor Matthew Macfadyen, best known as Fitzwilliam Darcy in the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice, has supossedly been cast in the role of the Sherrif of Nottingham. Macfadyen revealed that he had been cast in “Nottingham” (the previous title of the project) at a public Masterclass event on April 17th. The actor’s agent finally confirmed the role details with the Darcylicious fansite. Macfadyen most recently appeared as John Birt in Frost/Nixon. His credits also include Death at a Funeral, Incendiary and the BBC mini-series Little Dorrit.

Originally Crowe was supposed to play both roles in the movie, but thankfully director Ridley Scott decided against that idea.

Ridley Scott’s ‘Robin Hood’ with Russell Crowe Gets a Release Date

russell_crowe_1robin_hood_05_306x470

The newest remake of the classic tale of Robin Hood directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe has been given an official release date.  That date is May 14, 2010.

Crowe plays Robin of Loxley in an origin story of Robin Hood that hews close to historical facts of the period. Abandoned as a child, he finds community with the common people of Nottingham. Robin’s abandonment and trust issues hamper his ability to fall in love. He meets his match in Marian (Blanchett), a strong, independent woman.

2010 is looking like a good year for movies. I really can’t imagine Crowe as Robin Hood though, no matter how hard I try.
