Tragedy has struck hip hop royalty. Andre Romelle Young Jr., the 20-year-old son of iconic producer Dr. Dre was found dead in his Woodland Hills, CA home Saturday morning from an apparently unknown (or yet-unreleased) cause. The coroner’s office was unable to confirm to press whether or not Young was indeed Dre’s son, until today’s confirmation by the superstar’s rep.

An autopsy was conducted yesterday, but the cause-of-death results were inconclusive. Toxicology results will likely shed more light upon the tragedy.

According to the coroner’s spokesperson, Young had spent the previous evening with friends. His mother told police that he’d returned home Saturday at around 5:30 a.m., and that she’d heard him in his bedroom. Police said they did not suspect foul play.

“Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son Andre Young Jr. Please respect his family’s grief and privacy at this time,” a spokesperson for Dre released to the press today.

He’s the man behind some of contemporary punk rock’s biggest hitmakers, like Blink-182, A.F.I., Alkaline Trio, and Sum41 - but what you may not know about uber-producer Jerry Finn is that he passed away five days ago, after being taken off life support after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage.

“One of my best friends passed away…  Jerry Finn was one of the most talented, funniest, coolest, smartest and honest people I’ve ever known. He was true in every sense of the word. True in his love of music, true in his friendships; Jerry loved life. He was happiest when quietly making music he loved, and loudly making fun of everything he didn’t. When I think of times spent with Jerry, all I can think of is us laughing. … He’s just one of those guys with the quickest wit in the room. He also knows more about music than anyone. … I feel blessed to have worked with and learned so much from him. But most of all, I am honored to call him my dear friend. It’s been seven years already? Sadly, it has, and what a change the music industry has been through since the blossoming R&pop princess and actress was tragically killed in a plane accident in Abaco Island, Bahamas. Saxophone player LeRoi Moore, of the Dave Matthews Band died this evening at the young age of 46 after complications from a now-fatal ATV accident almost two months ago. In the accident outside of the band’s native Charlottesville, VA, Moore suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs, but he’d recently returned to supervised treatment after experiencing what doctors are calling “sudden complications”

The band was still scheduled to play Tuesday night at LA’s Staples Center, according to the band’s website. Béla Fleck and the Flecktones saxophonist Jeff Coffin has been filling in for the fallen musician since the accident.

Thoughts and prayers from the BSC family go out to Moore’s family and friends.

50- year old comedian Bernard McCullough, aka Bernie Mac died earlier this morning of complications due to pneumonia at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

His rep just issued the following statement to TMZ: “Actor/ comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital. No other details are available at this time. We ask that his family’s privacy continues to be respected.”

The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs, but he had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently had been hospitalized and treated for pneumonia.

I don’t know if you guys ever watched “The Bernie Mac Show” but I love it and I was just watching it on cable when I read the news… so this is a of a big shock even if we knew he was in pretty bad shape at the hospital for more than a week!! Bernie was still soo young…

If you haven’t already heard, or don’t have a clue who DJ K-Swift was, brush up on it here and here. The music community and most-particular-of-all the DJ community has lost a pioneering member.  She wasn’t just hip-hop, wasn’t just for the club rats, shown through her frequent, and more-recent gigs with Diplo and others (like Steve Aoki and Kid Sister).

The latter, Diplo has just uploaded this picture from their concert just this past Friday at Paradox in Baltimore, Maryland.

Still so sad…

Details have yet to emerge about the pool incident that claimed the 27-year-old’s life.  Her home radio station 92Q in Baltimore is airing today without on-air personalities, and are playing tributes and sound bites memorializing their fallen on-air family member.  Listen here.

Thanks to Josh @ BumpShack for this horribly sad news. More jarring-than-usual because I was this close to going to the huge party she threw with Diplo (producer for M.I.A. and internationally renowned DJ) at the Paradox in Baltimore MD Friday night. Appropriate that her final show was in her native city, seeing as the 27-year-old K-Swift was (and will be) the Queen of B-More Club. The quickly-paced 2-step style of music brought her quickly to rise as one of the genre’s most-demanded– having crossed over into the indie mixtape circuit, generating an entirely new fan base outside of her rooted hip-hop community.

This week, sad news cloud my column as the fashion world has been shocked to learn that former Yves Saint Laurent model Katoucha Niane, 47, has been found dead. Her body was found in the Seine River in Paris, Parisian police revealed.

Niane, better known simply as Katoucha, was last seen Friday night after she left a party with a friend. She headed home, and was never seen alive again. Police say an accidental fall was likely the cause of her death.

A Guinean, Niane immigrated to Europe at age 17 to become one of the first African supermodels, which she did achieve. She posed for people like Irving Penn, and maintained her friendship with Saint Laurent long after retiring as a model in 1994.

Niane was circumcised when she was 9, an experience that scarred her for the rest of her life. She had been campaigning against the practice of circumcising girls in Africa for a very long time, and was a true believer in what she fought for. The incredible beauty on her Black face and her long, brown hair, which effectively made her look like a real life version of an  African Barbie, hid a heart of a feminist who never stopped believing in her causes. Our condolences go to her loved ones.

The Argentine superstar, who will not be touring with internationally archfamous pop rock group Erreway during their 2008 international tour, recently wore a blue one piece bathing suit that’s all the scream. I liked the way she looked in more ways than just one. After all, even if she is my close friend, I am nothing but a carnal, animalistic, sad big dog looking for meat. In other words, I am a man.  And not like Boy George, who once actually declared on “Karma Chameleon” that he was a “man without convictions”. Not that kind of man. I have convictions and one of them is that Luisana Lopilato looks fine as hell in her bathing suit. Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor, a safety for the Washington Redskins, was shot in his Miami home early Monday morning after confronting a burglar.  The culprit remains on the loose.

Kevin DuBrow, the lead singer of Quiet Riot (”Cum on Feel the Noize”) was found dead in his Las Vegas home Sunday.  A cause of death has not yet been determined.

From Bumpshack.com:  Casey Calvert, the rhythm guitarist for the modern rock band Hawthorne Heights, passed away in his sleep on Friday night, aboard the band’s tour bus.
