Lynyrd Skynyrd fans are reeling today from the loss of the all-too-young keyboardist Billy Powell, who died last night in his Jacksonville, Florida home at the age of 56.

No cause of death has been reported yet. The band posted this message on their website just this morning.

A Great Loss — Beloved Pianist for the Lynyrd Skynyrd Band, Billy Powell, passed away last night. We will post more info shortly. The family and band request your respect and understanding during this difficult time. Thank you.

He was ranked at #29 on Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list, and alongside the iconic Iggy Pop and as an integral part of the Stooges, Ron Asheton made his mark with his amazing contributions to contemporary rock music.

Found in his Ann Arbor, MI home this morning, Asheton had been dead for several days - presumably of a heart attack.  Investigators do not suspect foul play at this point.  He was 60 years old.

Having split from the group after the commercial failure of their Raw Power album, Asheton later reunited along with his former band mates in 2003 performing and recording their 2007 release The Weirdness.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office has concluded that Andre Young, Jr., died of an accidental drug overdose on August 23, 2008.

“This case has been closed, it’s been ruled an accident due to morphine and heroin intoxication,” coroner spokesman Larry Dietz told PEOPLE.

The son of Dr. Dre and Jenita Porter was found dead by his mother, who “told investigators that her son had been out with friends that night, and she recalled hearing him snoring around 5:30 a.m.”

Young was just 20 years old when he died.

Of course the Ikki twins from MTV’s Double Shot at Love like to drink in the morning.  I am sure they enjoy drinking whenever they can get their hands on the booze.  Look at their lifestyle.  HELLO!

The Ikki twins got their ‘drink on’ this morning at 6:16 a.m. at LAX.  The Ikki girls drink choice today was a double Jack and Coke.  Who doesn’t like to start their day with ‘Jack’ anyhow?   yikes.  The sluts girls were on their way to Atlantic City to party in the New Year.  I guess they were getting a head start.

All the party pictures should be priceless.  I will be waiting with baited breath for those….not!

Kandice Hutchinson, one of the contestants to be kicked off the new MTV reality show “A Double Shot at Love”, died in a car accident just a short time after shooting her last appearances on the show, according to TMZ.

Hutchinson died on October 21 after her car was rear-ended causing Kandice to be ejected. Police said she died on the scene.

The producers have decided to keep her participation on the show with the condition to cut out some scenes. Respect!! I thought MTV would do anything for another scandal on their pseudo reality shows, but it seems this will be an exception.

We’re told the producers of the show — which features two bisexual twin sisters looking for love — edited her scenes to remove some of the more outrageous behavior, out of respect for the family. Sources close to the show tell us the producers have been in touch with the girl’s family and they are supportive of MTV’s plan to keep her in the show.

Our thought and prayers go to Kandice’s family. And the first episode of “A Double Shot at Love” will be dedicated to Kandice Hutchinson. RIP!!

After a jam-packed weekend of DJing wedding and club events, I was a little sad (and nostalgic) to learn that original Four Tops vocalist Levi Stubbs passed away at his home Friday (10/17) evening. As a part of the Motown-iconic group, the Tops sold over 50 million albums and scored 45 chart-topping hits including “Baby I Need Your Loving” and “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)”.

Stubbs also lent his voice to one of my favorite films, 1986’s Little Shop of Horrors as the foul-mouthed, carnivorous Audrey II.

The crooner is survived by his wife of 48 years and five children.

Rest in peace!

It’s a project I’d been excited about since 2001, and when the release of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes‘ solo album Supernova finally did come, it was just months prior to her fatal car crash in Central America’s Honduras.  The album was never released domestically, but thanks to some creativity (or small pockets looking for a cash cow), a 12-track album Eye-Legacy (that’s the best her people could have done?) will be hitting store shelves November 11th.

The album’s first single “Let’s Just Do It” features friend and collaborator Missy Elliott, alongside the project’s other collaborators Lil’ Mama, Bobby Valentino, and Chamillionaire.

Once again– that’s the best her people could have done?  Really?  Give me a posthumous TLC reunion with guest vocals from T-Boz and Chili, and then I might take this seriously.

There is a collaboration between Lopes and Tupac, (the track “Legendary”) but that’s already on the album I own.

A percentage of the proceeds from the album sales will go to the Lisa Lopes Foundation and her orphanage in Honduras, according to UrbanNetwork. In April 2002, Lopes was vacationing in the Central American country when the SUV she was driving flipped over. Lopes was the only fatality among the eight passengers in the vehicle. She was 30.

Tragedy struck early this morning in South Carolina as a Learjet 60 took off from South Carolina’s Columbia Metropolitan Airport, killing four, and critically injuring collaborators DJ AM (real name Adam Goldstein) and Travis Barker.  The two are said to be recovering from severe burns covering their bodies.  No word on any type of prognosis, but the two are not in good condition as of post-time.  Barker was transported via ground to a burn unit, while AM was airlifted.

The deceased have been identified as pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, CA co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, CA, Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, CA (who was Travis Barker’s personal assistant), and Charles Still, 25 of Los Angeles, CA.

During a press conference late Saturday morning a spokeswoman for the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that the plane overran the airstrip and proceeded to run into a number of the airport’s lights and antenna.

“I didn’t know what I had seen — it was maybe 800 feet in front of me, but as I approached it closer though I made out a fire. By then I was able to see the tail of the jet and I recognized it as a jet,” Owens said.

Owens then described what he saw as he tried to make it to the wreckage.

“It’s in flames and the fuel is running across the road and I had to cross the fuel to get to the two guys that seemed to have been dumped on the highway,” Owens said.

Owens said the two men (Travis and DJ AM!) were running around and stripping down to extinguish themselves. He then asked the men if there was anyone else on board the plane and they said four more were with them.

“We turned to the jet to try and see if there was anything we could do, but immediately, there was nothing anyone could do,” Owens said.

This is seriously really sad news.  Thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the deceased, and many thoughts and hopes for strength go out to Travis Barker & AM.

One of Pink Floyd’s founding members Rick Wright passed away today amongst family after a short battle with cancer. He debuted alongside his band members in 1965, playing primarily as the iconic musicmakers’ keyboardist, often lending vocals to such classics as “Wish You Were Here”.

Recently performing with David Gilmour, Wright also had a large part in the group’s 2005 performance at Live 8 [see the video below].

Thoughts & prayers go out to the dearly departed always, but a special remembrance should be served to those that helped shape the sound of the music we’re still constantly influenced by today.

Tragedy has struck hip hop royalty. Andre Romelle Young Jr., the 20-year-old son of iconic producer Dr. Dre was found dead in his Woodland Hills, CA home Saturday morning from an apparently unknown (or yet-unreleased) cause. The coroner’s office was unable to confirm to press whether or not Young was indeed Dre’s son, until today’s confirmation by the superstar’s rep.

An autopsy was conducted yesterday, but the cause-of-death results were inconclusive. Toxicology results will likely shed more light upon the tragedy.

According to the coroner’s spokesperson, Young had spent the previous evening with friends. His mother told police that he’d returned home Saturday at around 5:30 a.m., and that she’d heard him in his bedroom. Police said they did not suspect foul play.

“Dr. Dre is mourning the loss of his son Andre Young Jr. Please respect his family’s grief and privacy at this time,” a spokesperson for Dre released to the press today.

He’s the man behind some of contemporary punk rock’s biggest hitmakers, like Blink-182, A.F.I., Alkaline Trio, and Sum41 - but what you may not know about uber-producer Jerry Finn is that he passed away five days ago, after being taken off life support after suffering a massive brain hemorrhage.

“One of my best friends passed away…  Jerry Finn was one of the most talented, funniest, coolest, smartest and honest people I’ve ever known. He was true in every sense of the word. True in his love of music, true in his friendships; Jerry loved life. He was happiest when quietly making music he loved, and loudly making fun of everything he didn’t. It’s been seven years already? Sadly, it has, and what a change the music industry has been through since the blossoming R&pop princess and actress was tragically killed in a plane accident in Abaco Island, Bahamas. We’ve still got our up and coming music princesses, but it seems despite a few, Aaliyah was in ways the last of her kind– a young musician who was truly conquering huge feats: a role in the Matrix sequel that was cut short, alongside two additional movie roles, and promoting an album that many defend as having ushered in the sounds of R&B that we know and love today.

Saxophone player LeRoi Moore, of the Dave Matthews Band died this evening at the young age of 46 after complications from a now-fatal ATV accident almost two months ago. In the accident outside of the band’s native Charlottesville, VA, Moore suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs, but he’d recently returned to supervised treatment after experiencing what doctors are calling “sudden complications”

The band was still scheduled to play Tuesday night at LA’s Staples Center, according to the band’s website. Béla Fleck and the Flecktones saxophonist Jeff Coffin has been filling in for the fallen musician since the accident.

Thoughts and prayers from the BSC family go out to Moore’s family and friends.

50- year old comedian Bernard McCullough, aka Bernie Mac died earlier this morning of complications due to pneumonia at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

His rep just issued the following statement to TMZ: “Actor/ comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital. No other details are available at this time. We ask that his family’s privacy continues to be respected.”

The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body’s organs, but he had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently had been hospitalized and treated for pneumonia.

I don’t know if you guys ever watched “The Bernie Mac Show” but I love it and I was just watching it on cable when I read the news… so this is a of a big shock even if we knew he was in pretty bad shape at the hospital for more than a week!! Bernie was still soo young…

If you haven’t already heard, or don’t have a clue who DJ K-Swift was, brush up on it here and here. The music community and most-particular-of-all the DJ community has lost a pioneering member.  She wasn’t just hip-hop, wasn’t just for the club rats, shown through her frequent, and more-recent gigs with Diplo and others (like Steve Aoki and Kid Sister).

The latter, Diplo has just uploaded this picture from their concert just this past Friday at Paradox in Baltimore, Maryland.

Still so sad…
