‘Sherlock Holmes’ Set Cursed?

Is the set of Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr. cursed?

Yesterday, he (Robert Downey Jr.) and JUDE LAW, 35 — who plays his sidekick Dr Watson — had to flee the set with Ritchie when a gas tanker exploded in a fireball.

The Iron Man actor, 43, was knocked unconscious by 25-stone co-star ROBERT MAILLET during a fight scene. Downey Jr — who plays the famous detective — was “out cold” for six seconds and “drooling blood” before medics could bring him round. A nurse on set at Chatham dockyard in Kent gave him six stitches in his mouth.

Robert Maillet

A source said: “Robert was accidentally caught on the chin by a thundering hook. He went flying and was out cold. “He didn’t want to go to hospital and kept trying to get up. He’s a trooper. But there have been lots of other problems too.”

The source added: “The crew have started joking about the curse of Sherlock Holmes.”

Not cursed, just unfortunate. Hopefully the mishaps don’t continue. I want this movie to be a success.

‘Iron Man 2′ War Machine Concept Art

Check out this overlooked concept art for what War Machine might look like in Iron Man 2.

A while back, Yahoo posted a boat load of concept art from Jon Favreau’sIron Man. Hidden in the piles of artwork is Phil Saunders concept art of War Machine. Forgive me if you’ve already seen this, but my initial google search shows that not many people noticed.

Don Cheadle will play the part of War Machine in the film, but it’s not definite that the suit will look like any of these 3 concepts.

Barack Obama Voted Most Influential Male

Barack Obama has been named the most influential male by AskMen.com. They asked 200,000 people who they thought influenced the way men behave, buy and think. Barack came in number one and John McCain came in number 10.  Here is the top ten list in order.

Barack Obama, Democratic nominee
Steve Jobs, Apple CEO
Michael Phelps, Olympic swimmer
Robert Downey Jr., actor
Stephen Colbert, TV show host
Gordon Ramsay, celebrity chef and star of Kitchen Nightmares
Christian Bale, aka Batman
Rob Kay, Rock Band lead designer
Cristiano Ronaldo, soccer phenomenon
John McCain, Republican nominee

Most of these men are known for politics. It’s interesting to see that politics has come to gossip blogs and things like that. It’s about time things like this make people want to do something about their future.

Cheadle Replacing Howard in ‘Iron Man 2′

War Machine is not going to be played by Terrence Howard as anticipated in Iron Man 2, instead he will be played by the amazing Don Cheadle

Don Cheadle is stepping in to replace Terrence Howard in “Iron Man 2,” Marvel Studios’ sequel to its summer blockbuster.

In the movie, Howard played Jim Rhodes, Tony Stark/Iron Man’s best friend and future armor-clad hero War Machine. One scene featured Howard looking at a silver suit of armor and saying “Next time,” a line that caused great delight for fans.

But there will be no next time for Howard.

It’s not a downgrade, Cheadle is a really great actor, I look forward to seeing him in the film.

Robert Downey Jr. On What Keeps Him Going

Parade Magazine recently asked seven celebrities what keeps them going.  Robert Downey, Jr.’s answer was, I thought, pretty inspirational - especially given his history of addiction.

“Faith is not a dirty word. And hope is not for fools. I used to really make fun of optimists. But if all we have are negative world views, we’re in trouble.”

Good job, Robert.  Now just keep working your 12-step program and it’ll be all good!  Keep an eye out for him in Iron Man 2 and 3, which are in development.

‘Sherlock Holmes’ Starting Production

The new Guy Ritchie directed film Sherlock Holmes is going into production.

Robert Downey Jr. brings the legendary detective to life as he has never been portrayed before. Jude Law stars as Holmes’ trusted colleague, Watson, a doctor and war veteran who is a formidable ally for Sherlock Holmes. Rachel McAdams stars as Irene Adler, the only woman ever to have bested Holmes and who has maintained a tempestuous relationship with the detective. Mark Strong stars as their mysterious new adversary, Blackwood. Kelly Reilly will play Watson’s love interest, Mary.

This one is based on the comic book not directly with the books. With Ritchie at the helm and Downey Jr. as Holmes, I think we are in for a treat.

Deals for Avengers, Captain America, and Iron Man 3

Paramount promised to distribute a few of Marvel Studios upcoming movies.

Most of the movies they’re distributing you’ve already heard plenty about, from Marvel’s recent string of announcements. The deal has them distributing Iron Man 2, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America, and The Avengers. That covers them up through 2011. But they’re also teamed up to make Iron Man 3 a reality. No word on when that will happen, but it’s nice to know that they’re planning ahead with Tony Stark’s future. The more Iron Man we get, the better.

Below is a quick breakdown of all the movies they’re distributing along with the current release date scheduled for each:

Iron Man 2 - May 7, 2010
Thor - July 16, 2010
The First Avenger: Captain America - May 6, 2011
The Avengers - July 15, 2011
Iron Man 3 - Unknown

Wow, I guess they know a good opportunity when they see it.

Rachel McAdams Signs on to ‘Sherlock Holmes’

Rachel McAdams will star opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes, a reimagining of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s character that Guy Ritchie is directing for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow.

McAdams plays Holmes’ enigmatic love interest, Irene Adler, a character who appeared in Doyle’s 1891 “A Scandal in Bohemia.” While the character only appeared in that one story, McAdams’ personage would return for any possible sequel.

She’s a great actress, I’m sure she is a good choice.

Iron Man 2 in 3D IMAX?

Hell yeah, this is good news. In a recent interview Jon Favreau talked about Iron Man 2 being in IMAX 3D.

Anyway, while I’ll have a lot more in the next day or two, the highlight was Jon saying he’d love to do Iron Man 2 in 3D! He also called the IMAX “Dark Knight” footage a game changer and he said he’d love to shoot part of “Iron Man 2” in IMAX. Regarding the 3D, he said it’s all about the cost, but if they can make it happen he’d like to do it. He talked about getting to see the armor in 3D and how cool it would be.

While he was a bit cagey about specifics with “Iron Man 2,” he did mention Mandarin a lot and he said we can expect a lot more surprises in the sequel in terms of other comic book characters.

If you saw The Dark Knight in IMAX you probably see why this is exciting news. Hopefully this is the beginning of a trend.

Colin Farrell is the New Dr. Watson?

Colin Farrell may be joining Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie’s new Sherlock Holmes film.

According to our sources Colin Farrell is in talks to star as Dr. Watson in Sherlock Holmes.

After digging around I was told that as of right now no one is “officially” signed on to play Watson but our sources are saying Farrell is the guy.

He’s not exactly what I might have imagined as that character, but then again Guy Ritchie is clearly going for something completely different here.

Robert Downey Jr Shows DC Comics How He Really Feels

Robert Downey Jr was at the Japan premiere of Iron Man in Tokyo on Thursday. I swear he is showing DC Comics how he really feels about them since he told them to F–K off. Obviously, DC Comics are going to win again because Robert is just crazy!

What do you think he’s doing?

Guy Ritchie Talks ‘Sherlock Holmes’

Director Guy Ritchie spoke to USA Today about his upcoming Sherlock Holmes film.

“It will be a very big production, visceral and intellectual,” Ritchie says. “His brilliance will percolate into the action.”

The expected 2010 Warner release will be set in the olden days, he says, but the emphasis will be as much on Holmes’ physical prowess as it is on his keen powers of deduction.

“His intellect was as much of a curse as it was a blessing,” Ritchie says. “He was a deeply layered character.”

No word on the villain yet, but there will be a love interest based on Conan Doyle’s Irene Adler. Casting is expected to be finished in six or so weeks.

Ritchie already has been lucky to snag Robert Downey Jr., hot off of this summer’s Iron Man and Tropic Thunder, as his lead.

I’ve always been a fan of the Sherlock Holmes character, movies and books. Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr. working together? They are both so greatly suited for this project, lets just hope Downey Jr. can peg the Brittish accent.

‘Iron Man 2′ Officially in Development

Jon Favreau has started pre-production on the Iron Man sequel.

The Los Angeles Times talked to Iron Man 2 director Jon Favreau, who says they have started working on the sequel:

I just talked to Jon Favreau a bit ago, and he said that while there hasn’t been an formal announcement on the sequel to “Iron Man,” he’s begun developing it. “We’re working on it now,” he said, “which hasn’t been officially announced. It will be released in 2010.”

Marvel Studios and Paramount Pictures are targeting an April 30, 2010 release date in order to be the first film to kick-off that summer, much like Iron Man did on May 2nd of this year.

Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder) is writing the script and in addition to Robert Downey Jr., the first film’s co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard are expected to return as well.

Good news for all the fans of the first film, hopefully the script will be as strong.

Robert Downey Jr Doesn’t Understand The Dark Knight

Robert Downey Jr says he doesn’t understand The Dark Knight because he doesn’t have a college education

“I feel like I’m dumb because I feel like I don’t get many things that are so smart. “(The Dark Knight) is like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and scriptwriting and I’m like, ‘That’s not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.’ “I didn’t understand The Dark Knight… I still can’t tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and, in the end, they need him to be a bad guy. I’m like, ‘I get it - this is so high brow and so f**king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.’”

Wow, I didn’t know you need college degrees to go to the movies. Now, I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I can’t leave some witty comment behind. But, I’m sure it’s not that hard to understand.

Will ‘The Dark Knight’ Succumb to ‘Tropic’ Fever?

The Dark Knight has made $445.3 million domestically as of monday night. $708.8 million is it’s grand total worldwide so far. This film has remained on the top of the heap in the USA since it’s release 4 weekends ago. This weekend is likely to be the first that the film fails to reach the top spot as the new Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder hits theaters. The star power of Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., and Jack Black are likely to pull in a large audience. Especially with the buzz over the boycott against the film for the use of the word ‘retarded’. When will people learn that there is no such thing as bad publicity?

‘Tropic Thunder’ Hits Entertainment Weekly Cover

Jack Black, Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr. are the stars of the new film Tropic Thunder. Check out EW’s interview of the trio:

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: This movie mercilessly ridicules the self-important aspects of acting. Ben, you were telling me earlier that there’s nothing actors love more than to sit around telling stories about other actors behaving like jerks.
JACK BLACK: But not in an interview
ROBERT DOWNEY JR.: Literally, I once heard an actor say, ”This whole process — us trying to shoot this scene — this is garbage. We need to put on animal masks and get primal with each other, and then we’ll understand who really has the status in this scene. I’ve got the masks.”
BEN STILLER: Wow.
DOWNEY: I remember looking at this dude and going, ”You brought animal masks? You honestly think your, like, improv summer-stock idea is going to break it open for me? We’ve got money on the line. I’m not going to put on rabbit ears and figure out who’s king of the forest.”

BEN STILLER: I remember being in a car scene with a jaded actor who pulled out a flask: ”It’s 4 o’clock. Time for a little nip.”

ROBERT DOWNEY JR.: [To Stiller] But you’ve never worked drunk or loaded?
STILLER: Um, no.
DOWNEY: Liar.
STILLER: I haven’t! Just out of fear of screwing up.
DOWNEY: Jack?
JACK BLACK: No. I had an improv class in high school and I came stoned one time. And I was so paranoid that I never tried to f— with it again. I marvel at some people’s ability to party and then act. I’m not built that way. [Pauses] But what blows me away is how quickly someone who’s new to the industry can go from being, like [breathlessly], ”Whoa, what? I have my owntrailer?! Oh my God, you guys, this is insane!” to [smugly] ”But I deserve it. And actually now Iexpect it.” The transition into the spoiled actor happens really fast. That’s why you hear about a lot of actors who live on a farm out in the middle of the country to shield themselves, so they can stay grounded. But that’s its own kind of spoiledness too.
STILLER: I was directing an actress once who was taking a nap on the set and I had to gingerly wake her up. [Whispering] ”We have to film now.” ”But I’m so tired.” ”I know, but everyone’s here and we’re ready to do the scene.”
BLACK: There is an infantilization that happens to actors. I had to catch myself a couple of times while we were making this movie from falling into the trap of
being the character. I got a really bad sunburn on the very first day of rehearsals, and I was so mad and I really wanted to blame someone besides myself for not putting sunblock on.
STILLER: ”How could you not tell me how strong the sun was going to be?!”
