DINNER’S READY!: 9/30/08 New Releases

The clear winner in this week’s new releases round-up has to be T.I. with his newest album Paper Trail.  While it may not rival Lil’ Wayne’s The Carter III in units sold, it certainly is the best rap album to be released since Kanye’s Graduation.  An incredible collection spanning from dance floor to radio and everywhere in-between.  Check for my review later this afternoon, but for now, here’s a list of some big names coming out today (I love the beginning of the last sales quarter!)

- Jennifer Hudson - Jennifer Hudson

- Robin Thicke - Something Else

- Ben Folds - Way to Normal

- Jack’s Mannequin - The Glass Passenger

- Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

- Kellie Pickler - Kellie Pickler

- Murs - Murs for President

- Josh Kelley - To Remember

- Anberlin - New Surrender

- James Morrison - Songs for You, Truths for Me

Is Vibe Magazine Racist?

Robin Thicke sat down with Billboard magazine to promote the release of his new album Something Else and among discussions of race, and the label “blue-eyed soul” he described a recent interview with Vibe magazine:

When I did a recent interview with Vibe magazine I asked, “Why can’t I get the cover? This is a magazine I love. If there’s one magazine that I’d want to be on the cover of, it’s Vibe.” Their response was they don’t have white artists on the cover; that the only white artist they’ve had on the cover was Eminem. I guess if that’s what it is, it is what it is. And I respect that because I live in a house with a black woman.

I won’t use the word “racism.” I will say it’s a tough—but rewarding—fight.

I’m sorry, but can we honestly say if someone like Mary J. Blige was interviewed by Billboard and told they only feature white artists on their cover, her response could have, or would have been “if that’s what it is, it is what it is.”

Somebody just canceled their subscription.

Robin Thicke’s “Magic” Fedora Ride

Somebody’s got a bigger budget this time around! Robin Thicke, true R&B / indie fans’ answer to Justin Timberlake’s brand of blue-eyed soul, is back at it again with his new album on deck. “Magic”, the new single features smooth latin vibes with an even more sleek/futuristic video to accompany it.

The new father (wife & high school sweetheart / actress Paula Patton gave birth to their daughter earlier this year) is one of my favorite artists, no matter how hard he tries to bust a move.
