Russell Brand Arrested In New Orleans

Russell Brand

Russell Brand is sick of the paparazzi and he wanted to make sure the unsuspecting office windows of New Orleans know it.  The actor, who is in New Orleans filming a movie, got himself in a bit of trouble this week when he decided a photographer went just a little too far.

On Monday, Brand evidently snatched an iPhone from a paparazzo, who was taking his picture, and threw it through the window of a local law firm.  The photographer filed charges for criminal damages amounting to $700, and a warrant was issued for Brand’s arrest.

Ever the responsible citizen, Brand turned himself in to the New Orleans Police on Thursday.  He was booked and released shortly thereafter.  He also paid $240 to the law firm whose window he smashed.   Presumably he can afford to replace the guy’s iPhone, too, so why the charges?   Is the pap just trying to make a point because he can?

Katy Perry Is “Devastated” Over Divorce From Russell Brand

Despite rumors that Katy Perry wanted Russell Brand to be the one to file for divorce, the singer is telling friends that she is “devastated” that their marriage is ending.

HollywoodLife.com says Perry “still loves” Brand and is in a bit of shock.  Their sources say:

“Katy never thought in a million years that she would get divorced, she really planned to spend her life with Russell.  She is grieving her marriage and is at a point in her life where she doesn’t know what’s next.

[She] still can’t believe that it’s over.  She knew things were bad but she figured they’d work through it. Katy has been going through a bunch of emotions and she’s really leaning on her friends right now. She’s not herself.”

Other reports claim that Brand’s clean living lifestyle – he’s a recovered addict – became a problem for Perry, who “loved to party.”

Russell Brand Divorces Katy Perry

Just a few short weeks ago, Russell Brand shot down rumors that he and wife Katy Perry were breaking up.  Looks like there was something to that gossip after all, however:  he filed for divorce in Los Angeles today.

Rumors of the couple’s split began flying this week when they were spotted spending the Christmas holiday apart.  Later, Brand was seen in London without his wedding ring.

Brand issued the following statement to People:

“Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage.  I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.”

Brand and Perry were married in India in October 2010.

Russell Brand: Katy Perry And I Are Not Divorcing

Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today, Russell Brand shot down allegations that he and wife Katy Perry have broken up.

DeGeneres asked the actor to address the gossip, saying,

“There is a rumor that you and Katy split up.”

Brand responded, “What?  She should have told me… I am really happily married.” Calling the “whole internet” a “wicked little liar,” he continued:

“Being famous is like a little bit of you is taken away and goes off and lives on its own and odes what it wants. I wish it would do more interesting things.  I don’t know what he’s doing — the other me.   But I am married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive.”

Brand and Perry married in India just a little over one year ago.

Russell Brand Confirmed For Diablo Cody’s ‘Lamb Of God’

Russell Brand

Russell Brand has accepted a leading role in Diablo Cody‘s new film Lamb Of God.  He’ll play a bartender named William, whose life closely mirror’s Brand’s own:  he’s a recovering drug addict who’s sown plenty of wild oats in his past.

Also starring in the religious comedy (something about that just doesn’t sound right, but what else would you expect from Diablo Cody?) is Julianne Hough.

Brand was named the top choice for the role back in August but his participation in the film was just confirmed this week.  Look for Lamb Of God in 2013.

Katy Perry & Russell Brand At 2011 MTV VMAs

Adorable couple Katy Perry and Russell Brand attended the 2011 MTV VMAs at the Nokia Theatre LA Live in Los Angeles last night.

Katy took home three awards – one for her song “Fireworks” and two for her collaboration with Kanye West on “E.T.”

Brand, 36, took part in the moving tribute to Amy Winehouse. The actor recounted the first time he met the singer and how powerful her voice was to him from day one.

Russell Brand Pays Tribute To Amy Winehouse ‘We Have Lost A Beautiful, Talented Woman’

Russell Brand wrote a heartfelt message for his long time friend Amy Winehouse and the very talented but also very addicted person she was and reflecting on her life. Winehouse, 27, died in her home in London on Saturday.

The news of her death prompted Brand, 36, to recall the first time her met and heard her sing.

“I arrived late and as I made my way to the audience through the plastic smiles and plastic cups I heard the rolling, wondrous resonance of a female vocal. Entering the space I saw Amy on stage with [Paul] Weller and his band; and then the awe. The awe that envelops when witnessing a genius. From her oddly dainty presence that voice, a voice that seemed not to come from her but from somewhere beyond even Billie [Holiday] and Ella [Fitzgerald], from the font of all greatness. A voice that was filled with such power and pain that it was at once entirely human yet laced with the divine. My ears, my mouth, my heart and mind all instantly opened,” Russell wrote.

“Winehouse. Winehouse? Winehouse! That twerp, all eyeliner and lager dithering up Chalk Farm Road under a back-combed barnet, the lips that I’d only seen clenching a fishwife fag and dribbling curses now a portal for this holy sound. So now I knew. She wasn’t just some hapless wannabe, yet another pissed up nit who was never gonna make it, nor was she even a ten-a-penny-chanteuse enjoying her fifteen minutes. She was a f*****g genius.”

Katy Perry’s Glam Cover For Vanity Fair

Katy Perry covers Vanity Fair for June 2011 and while the topics she discusses are pretty familiar fare with the songstress (boobs, Brand and bibles), she gives new insight into her upbringing.

Growing up with evangelical parents, Perry wasn’t allowed to use the word ‘devil’ to describe anything – deviled eggs or Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners included. Her mother only read stories from the bible to her, she was not allowed any secular music at all and Planned Parenthood was a very scary place.

“Growing up, seeing Planned Parenthood, it was considered like the abortion clinic,” she tells VF. “I was always scared I was going to get bombed when I was there…. I didn’t know it was more than that, that it was for women and their needs. I didn’t have insurance, so I went there and I learned about birth control.”

Despite how different she lives her life now, from how her parents envisioned it, she thinks that they have found some contentment with her success.

“I think sometimes when children grow up, their parents grow up,” Perry says of her evangelical-minister parents. “Mine grew up with me. We coexist. I don’t try to change them anymore, and I don’t think they try to change me. We agree to disagree. They’re excited about [my success]. They’re happy that things are going well for their three children and that they’re not on drugs. Or in prison.”

The 26 year-old is proud too and says she doesn’t spend time bogged down with naysayers.

“I don’t care what people say about my relationship; I don’t care what they say about my boobs. People are buying my songs; I have a sold-out tour. I’m getting incredible feedback from my music.”
