The new Robin Hood film starring Russell Crowe, Nottingham, now has a sheriff.

34-year-old British actor Matthew Macfadyen, best known as Fitzwilliam Darcy in the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice, has supossedly been cast in the role of the Sherrif of Nottingham. Macfadyen revealed that he had been cast in “Nottingham” (the previous title of the project) at a public Masterclass event on April 17th. The actor’s agent finally confirmed the role details with the Darcylicious fansite. Macfadyen most recently appeared as John Birt in Frost/Nixon. Ridley Scott’s ‘Robin Hood’ with Russell Crowe Gets a Release Date

russell_crowe_1robin_hood_05_306x470

The newest remake of the classic tale of Robin Hood directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe has been given an official release date.  That date is May 14, 2010.

Crowe plays Robin of Loxley in an origin story of Robin Hood that hews close to historical facts of the period. Abandoned as a child, he finds community with the common people of Nottingham. Robin’s abandonment and trust issues hamper his ability to fall in love. He meets his match in Marian (Blanchett), a strong, independent woman.

2010 is looking like a good year for movies. I really can’t imagine Crowe as Robin Hood though, no matter how hard I try.

‘State of Play’ Trailer with Russell Crowe

Here’s the trailer for the new film State of Play starring Russell Croweand Ben Affleck.

I really like Rachel McAdams, she’s a great actress. I spent a day on the set of this film and it looks much more interesting than it did from the one day of shooting I saw. Oddly they never show Jason Bateman in the trailer, but he is in the movie, I saw him on set. Maybe he’s the killer.

‘Nottingham’ Plot Details

The new film, Nottingham starring Russell Crowe directed byRidley Scotthas new plot details.

Scott told us recently that Crowe is playing both Robin Hood and Nottinghamwhich left a few people scratching their heads. It wasnt so confusing in retrospect given what has beenreported about the script elsewhere.

But now Brian Grazer has further clarified to MTV News how this dual role thing is going to work AND he even dropped a bit of a bomb about how the beginning of the film plays out. So spoiler-scared folk please go no further.

Asked about the confusion over who Russell is in fact playing, Grazer said The two role confusion is that what Robin Hood does is he sees Nottingham in battle very early in the movie and Nottingham dies. And Robin Hood takes over the identity of Nottingham. Thats how it plays out. Grazer went on to call the film an origin story for the characters.

Well, I certainly hope this iteration of the story will be solid, it sounds a little contrived at the moment.

Celebrity Tributes Pour In For Paul Newman

The world is still mourning the loss of Paul Newman. He was a legend and the movie world will never be the same. Celebrity tributes to Paul have started to pour in and I thought I would share some of them…

“For me personally, his is the kind of life I would like to lead in this industry. Not only was he classy and phenomenally talented, but he led a normal life. He was also extraordinarily philanthropic and gave back such a tremendous amount. He was the ultimate role model.” Leonardo DiCaprio

“There is a point where feelings go beyond words. I have lost a real friend. My lifeand this countryis better for his being in it.” Robert Redford, who costarred with Newman in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Sting

“The history of movies without Paul Newman? It’s unthinkable. His presence, his beauty, his physical eloquence, the emotional complexity he could conjure up and transmit though his acting in so many movieswhere would we be without him?” Martin Scorsese, who directed Newman in his Oscar-winning performance in The Color of Money

“He was one of those guys who was an inspiration to my whole life. And he always came up with something interesting. He gave some magnificent performances.” Russell Crowe

“Paul was a very fine actor and a really good race driver. But mostly, he personified humanityalways taking care of those who were less fortunate. For me, this will be his legacy.” David Letterman

“He was my hero.” Julia Roberts

And lastly a statement from Paul’s three daughters…

Paul Newman played many unforgettable roles. But the ones for which he was proudest never had top billing on the marquee. Devoted husband. Loving father. Adoring grandfather. Dedicated philanthropist…Always and to the end, Dad was incredibly grateful for his good fortune. In his own words: ‘Its been a privilege to be here.’ He will be profoundly missed by those whose lives he touched, but he leaves us with extraordinary inspiration to draw upon. During this difficult time, we ask for privacy for our family. Elinor, Melissa and Claire, whose mother is Oscar-winning actress Joanne Woodward

He will be missed forever.
