Brad Pitt and Ryan Reynolds in ‘Gunsmoke’?

Gunsmoke

Apparently there’s a Gunsmoke movie in the works and two of the top names for the lead role are Brad Pitt and Ryan Reynolds.

The job of Dodge City peacekeeper is proving to be one of the most desirable assignments around.

Several top-flight actors are in the running to play Marshal Matt Dillon, the lead lawman in CBS Films’ big-screen adaptation of the classic Western television show “Gunsmoke” that starred James Arness.

Brad Pitt has emerged as a top contender for the role, with Ryan Reynolds also a candidate for the juicy, gunslinging part.

As incarnated first on the mid-century radio serial and later in the CBS prime-time hit, Dillon is the Western hero charged with maintaining law and order in a period Kansas town filled with colorful vagrants, misfits and desperadoes. He carries on in these adventures with the help of town physician Doc Adams and tavern owner Miss Kitty Russell.

This isn’t the most exciting sounding project to me. I’m not a big fan of westerns nowadays, it just seems like it’s all been done already. If there’s an amazing script for the film, thats one thing, but if it’s just another TV to film moneymaker you can count me out.

‘Buried’ With Ryan Reynolds Picked Up by Lionsgate

Buried

The independent film Buried starring Ryan Reynolds was just picked up by Lionsgate for theatrical release.

Following a highly successful late-night screening on Saturday at Sundance, the Ryan Reynolds trapped-in-a-box thriller “Buried” was sold to Lionsgate.

The deal is said to be worth a pricey $3-4 million plus a significant marketing commitment, the mini-major beating out interest expressed by several other distributors.

This movie is certainly going to have an audience, but I’m wondering how much a real full trailer will show in terms of story. All we’ve seen so far could have been shot in somebody’s basement.

New ‘Buried’ Poster, Trailer and Clip With Ryan Reynolds

Buried Poster

Here’s the new poster, teaser trailer and a clip from the upcoming film Buried starring Ryan Reynolds.

And here’s the clip:

I gotta admit, this doesn’t intrigue me at all so far. How much of the movie could possibly be him stuck in a coffin? Hopefully there is a lot more to it than what it looks like.

Green Lantern Logo

The new comic book film The Green Lantern has received the green light to start shooting in March!

Visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas (The Day After TomorrowSpider-Man) has announced on herBlog that Green Lantern got the official green light yesterday (Wednesday) and that filming will start in 10 weeks (sometime in March):

Wow! Been a long time since I posted! But today is a day worth posting about!

Green Lantern got the official green light today! And not a second too soon - only 10 weeks out from shooting!

While it’s great news we are a go - now we have to actually get our prep done in 10 weeks!
DOH!

But we have an amazing crew - so we will make it happen!

This movie is going to be something else, the team working on it is really great. Great director, great actor, 1300 effects shots and an Oscar winning crew. Can’t wait.

‘Green Lantern’ Director Pulls together Oscar Winning Crew

Green Lantern

Director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) has pulled in some very high caliber talent for his upcoming film The Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds.

The first movie to be made under Warner Bros.’ new DC Entertainment umbrella will be shot by cinematographer Dion Beebe, who won an Oscar for his work with Rob Marshall on Memoirs of a Geisha(having previously been nominated for Chicago). Even more exciting than that is who Campbell hired to help create the look and vision of the movie, production designer Grant Major and costume designer Ngila Dickson, both of whom won Oscars for their work on Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Major also fulfilled the same capacity on Jackson’s remake of King Kong.

Art director François Audouy may not have won any Oscars, but his resume working in genre movies is impressive, everything from doing concept art for James Cameron’s Avatar and I Am Legend, acting as art director for Watchmen and the first Transformers movie, and working in various art capacities on all three “Spider-Man” movies.

I have to say my hopes for this movie are growing with each new piece of information. These are some talented people he’s pulling in for the ever-so-important visuals on this picture. We should start hearing about further casting soon!

Sam Worthington or Ryan Reynolds Will Play ‘Flash Gordon’

Ryan Reynolds Sam Worthington Flash Gordon

Apparently either Sam Worthington or Ryan Reynolds will play Flash Gordon in the upcoming film.

Sources say Sam is up against the sexy Ryan Reynolds for the leading role in the sci-fi flick. “If he gets the role it would be quite a big deal as Flash is an all-American hero,” dished one Hollywood insider. “Right now it’s between Sam, Ryan Reynolds and one or two others for the lead role should the project actually get off the ground.”

The role calls for Flash as a handsome polo player and Yale graduate, who travels to the planet Mongo, where it’s discovered that the meteors are weapons devised by Ming the Merciless, evil ruler of Mongo.

I like both actors, but I just saw Avatar and my vote goes to Sam Worthington, what do you think?

Ryan Reynolds Talks ‘Green Lantern’ and ‘Deadpool’ (Interview)

Ryan ReynoldsGreen Lantern

Ryan Reynolds talked to MTV in a recent interview and talked about his role in the upcoming Green Lantern as well as the possibility of a Deadpool movie.

I’ve known about “Green Lantern” my whole life, but I’ve never really followed it before. I fell in love with the character when I met with [director] Martin Campbell. When I sat down with him, I really got what it is that this guy is all about. When you have a guy like Martin Campbell, part of his charm is that he has ba–s of titanium, and the other part is that he’s slightly crazy, and you have to be to take on something with the scope of “Green Lantern.” He’s less of the director and more of a general. He just really knows strategies, he knows the intricacies, and his attention to detail! It’s infectious. I sat down with him, and I could not even believe what he was saying. When I went to the meeting, I was entirely cynical. I thought, “What the hell, I’ll see what they have to say,” and I left the room with a completely different perspective.

Listen to him talk about Deadpool here:

Lots of great stuff on the horizon for the new star, he’s a great actor, I think he’s up for the tasks at hand. Green Lantern will be a hard role to pull off considering how high-concept it is even for a comic book film.

Director Martin Campbell Talks ‘Green Lantern’ Effects

greenlantern

Director of The Green Lantern Martin Campbell talked to Coventry Telegraph about the massive amount of special effects in the film.

He admits it will be a big challenge in bringing to life a hero trained on another world to wield a ring of great power and join an intergalactic police corps.

Campbell said: “It’s daunting. Just the process, something like 1,300 visual effects shots, it’s mind-blowing, quite honestly.”

Campbell explained that the amount of FX work was due to the Green Lantern’s powers generated through his mystical ring.

“It’s energised by a battery on the planet of Oa, which taps into the willpower of everyone in the universe.

“From that ring you can form constructs. So if you got into a fight, you could form a giant fist. Or a fighter plane.”

All the digital wizardry will be expensive - and although Warner Bros hoped to shoot in Sydney and take advantage of tax concessions, the budget was pushed to unacceptable levels by the strengthening Australian dollar.

1300 special effects shots?!  That’s going to take a long time, but they have plenty of it since the movie isn’t out until the summer of 2011. The movie is obviously going to be a major hit, I just hope it doesn’t turn out cheesy like Fantastic Four. I doubt it though, Martin Campbell is a solid director.

Jackie Earle Haley to Play ‘Green Lantern’ Baddie?

jackieearle_haley-thumb-300x400-15792sinestro

Rumor has it that Jackie Earle Haley is likely to star as the bad guy Sinestro in the upcoming Green Lantern movie.

On the plus side, a new rumour has pegged Jackie EarleHaley for the role of Sinestro in the picture. You may recall that he’s the mentor character that might just turn out to be a baddie (if they don’t save that for the sequel). The same unnamed gossipmonger has Superman down for a cameo role in the film, which sounds like a wild and unlikely idea but the character was in at least one draft of the script and since Marvel’s multi-picture mashup scheme, I wouldn’t be surprised to see DC try a similar tactic.

Haley is a fantastic actor and he’s proven it over and over, slowly growing into a mainstream star. He’d be a great choice for Sinestro, hopefully he takes the offer if he does get it.
