First Look: Sacha Baron Cohen as ‘The Dictator’ (Image)

Here’s the first shot of Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Bruno) as The Dictator.

Paramount Pictures has released an early image of Sacha Baron Cohen as The Dictator, the comedy in which he plays the dual roles of a ruthless dictator who heads to the U.S. for a meeting at the United Nations and finds that his number two has replaced him with an unsuspecting sheepherder lookalike. As the dictator wanders the city, he meets the owner of an organic food store (Anna Faris) who gives him a different perspective on the idea of oppression. Baron Cohen’s Borat and Bruno director Larry Charles is helming, and Paramount has set a May 11, 2012 worldwide release date.

It’s a pretty funny concept, and Anna Faris will make it that much funnier. It’s not like the last couple Sacha Baron Cohen movies in which he fooled a lot of real people, instead it’s a fully scripted movie with the same director. I have no doubt that this will still be funny without having to make a fool of anyone, although that was always fun too.

Ben Kingsley to Join Sacha Baron Cohen in ‘The Dictator’

Sir Ben Kingsley is set to join Sacha Baron Cohen in the upcoming movie The Dictator.

Variety says Kingsley will co-star in the film as “one of two Middle Eastern characters who factor into the plot”. The League‘s Jason Mantzoukas is in negotiations to play the other role…

…In The Dictator, Cohen will play dual roles as a goat herder and a deposed dictator who gets lost in the US. Inspired by Saddam Hussein’s best selling romance novel, Zabibah and The King, the film tells “the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed”. Though it’s not credited as such, it looks to be a sort of modern take on Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator, swapping out Hitler for Hussein.

Sounds like a kooky and bizarre comedy, but I expect nothing less from Sacha Baron Cohen. Ben Kingsley is one of the most diverse actors out there, in one movie he can have you crying and in the next laughing. I get the feeling The Dictator is going to be really funny, I’m glad Cohen is steering away from his fake characters in real-life situations to stick with scripted work. The Dictator will be in theaters on May 11th, 2012.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s Freddy Mercury Biopic Shoots This Year

It’s been talked about for a while. Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat) is playing Freddy Mercury in an upcoming film about the life of the late Queen frontman. The film will shoot in 2011.

Work is now fully under way for the much-vaunted feature film on the life of Freddie. Peter Morgan has delivered a first draft of the movie, which everyone is very excited about, and Sacha Baron Cohen is chomping at the bit to get into the role, in a way which certainly would delight Freddie ! The whole team now working on preparing for a shoot later this year, and a release in the late Autumn of 2012. We are also laying the foundations for WWRY THE MOVIE, and again, we already have a great script for it from Ben.”

This is direct news from the Queen website. I’m sure Cohen will be great in the role, he’s a multi-talented individual. This movie is guaranteed to have a big Queen fans following. Cohen has proven his singing ability in Sweeny Todd, but will they have him do any singing for this film? Mercury clearly had a much more massive, unique and commanding voice.

Katie Price Does Bruno For Heat Magazine

Sacha Baron Cohen as BrunoKatie Price As Bruno In Heat Magazine

Katie Price is no stranger to dressing funny, but this looks ridiculous even for her.  Heat magazine asked her to dress up as Sacha Baron Cohen‘s Bruno for its Stars Dress Up issue.  Katie had this to say about her Bruno experience:

‘When Heat asked me to be Bruno, I thought it would be a laugh. I had hardly any make-up on for once – although I have got brown stuff all over my face, which I’m not so sure about.

‘I quite like this look though!’

She’s not sure about the “brown stuff” all over her face?  What’s the difference between that and the spray tan she’s usually got all over it?

‘Borat’ and ‘Bruno’ Star Sacha Baron Cohen Gets Two New Films

Sacha Baron Cohen

Sacha Baron Cohen has two brand new projects to dig his creative hands into. And at least one of them is a regular scripted comedy.

First up is “Accidentes” for UniversalPictures. Cohen will star as a personal injury lawyer who becomes a blue-collar hero when he helps an immigrant win a case against his employer after an on-the-job accident. Peter Baynham penned the script.

The second untitled film is being kept top secret but Cohen and all of his Borat/Bruno writers are involved in the project whose pitch alone started a massive bidding war that Sony Pictures eventually won.

Accidentes sounds like it’ll be pretty funny, it’s going to be so different seeing him work directly with a script. I’m sure the next project will be another ‘mockumentary’ style flick, but I wonder what kind of character he could concoct that wouldn’t be recognizable after the last two films.

‘Bruno’ Banned in Ukraine

bruno_1

Bruno has been banned, and will not see release in Ukraine.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s hit mockumentary “Bruno,” about an outrageous gay Austrian fashion journalist, has been banned in Ukraine because it is “immoral.”

The country’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism described shots of sexual organs, homosexual intercourse and bad language as obscene and improper.

The ban — in a former Soviet country that has struggled to create European-oriented institutions following its pro-democracy Orange Revolution five years ago — is likely linked to fears that the film could offend deeply religious sections of the population.

It is true, this film is raunchy, dirty and filthy and co-incidentally hilarious. But it’s pretty clearly not for all audiences, hence the hard R-Rating. I’m a little surprised at the ban, but it’s only more publicity for this ridiculous movie.

Bruno Does Top Ten On Letterman

bruno-david-letterman

The latest movie from Sacha Baron Cohen, Bruno, was released at midnight last night, and alter ego Bruno took full advantage of the opportunity to grab the spotlight. The eccentric Austrian reporter, played by Sacha Baron Cohen, took to the Late Show with David Letterman‘s Top Ten List.

Top Ten Reasons To See The New Movie “Bruno” was peppered with such tidbits as “Features lots of suggestive words like “bratwurst” and “schnitzel”, “Don’t you want to see a crazy gay Austrian who isn’t the governor of California?” and “Harry Potter isn’t the only movie character who’s good with his wand”

Sacha Baron Cohen Gets Almost Naked For Berlin

Bruno In Berlin

Sacha Baron Cohen was in Berlin promoting his new movie, Bruno, for some reason it’s funnier than anything to see him wearing this almost naked (but not really) outfit with a thing hanging out of it. Back in London Bruno spoke out on how he is trying to change the world for the gay community.

“What I’m trying to undo tonight,” Bruno says, “is the badness done by that film ‘Milk’ which has really set the gay community back 20 years with that terrible stereotype.”

I know it might not be the nicest thing in the world to say but look at what he wears. He can’t be totally serious in the way he feels.

Alessandra Ambrosio & Bruno Cover Marie Claire UK

marie-claire-uk-july-2009-cover

Sacha Baron Cohen should just have us expecting the unexpected by now, and he doesn’t disappoint:  he, I mean Bruno, and Alessandra Ambrosio are Marie Claire UK‘s July 2009 cover girls.

The accompanying article is an A-Z of Bruno’s fashion must-haves, including:

“L:  Little black child… thanks to Madonna und Bruno, it’s zis season’s vardrobe essential.”

So tacky!  And yet so true.  Speaking of tacky, don’t miss the sexy pics of Bruno in a gold lame thong (below).  Oh yeah, Alessandra appears in the photo too (and there is NOTHING tacky about her!).  Enjoy!

‘Bruno’ Star Makes Eminem Angrily Leave MTV Movie Awards

brunoeminem_lead_narrowweb__300x3762

Sacha Baron Cohen star of the upcoming film Bruno was an award presenter tonight on the MTV Movie Awards. He “flew in” on wires and ended up being lowerd down into the audience, right on top of Eminem. Not only did he land on the star, but he landed with his crotch and rear end directly in Eminem‘s face. Needless to say Eminem was not happy, he started cursing and they pulled him off of the rapper. He stormed out of the building.

All things considered Eminem stayed pretty calm, I wouldn’t have wanted that in my face either. This is another example of the crass and bizarre behavior that makes Cohen‘s work popular. But he may have just made an enemy for life.
