Here are the first shots of Seth Rogen in The Green Hornet wearing the costume.

It looks so much like the old Green Hornet show it’s almost disappointing, but at least we get a look at the funky gun. This movie should be a lot of fun.

I really don’t know what to expect from this movie, I’m really hoping it’s good. Unfortunately I’m still not buying the whole Seth Rogen as a superhero thing.

‘Basterds’ Bad Guy Christoph Waltz to Play ‘Green Hornet’ Villain

christoph_waltz

Christoph Waltz, the bad guy from Inglourious Basterds has been cast as the villain in the upcoming film The Green Hornet.

The Austrian actor, who’s been fielding an avalanche of praise (including the best actor award at Cannes) for his role as a nefariously charming Nazi colonel in Quentin Tarantino’s latest film, has been cast as the heavy opposite Seth Rogen in Columbia’s latest feature about a masked crime fighter. Waltz joins Cameron Diaz and Asian pop star Jay Chou in the cast.

Rogen and Evan Goldberg wrote the screenplay, inspired by the radio series created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker in the 1930s. Michel Gondry is directing the potential franchise-starter for a December 2010 release.

His character in Inglourious Basterds was brilliant in my opinion, up there with some of the very best movie villains ever. I can’t wait to see what he pulls off in The Green Hornet.

Stephen Chow will no longer be playing the character Kato in the upcoming film The Green Hornet, instead Jay Chou will play the part opposite Seth Rogen.

Taiwanese singer-actor Jay Chou has joined the cast of Columbia’s “The Green Hornet” opposite Seth Rogen in the role of sidekick Kato.

Chou replaces Hong Kong actor Stephen Chow in the role, originally made famous by Bruce Lee in the 1966-67 TV series.

I’m sure he’ll do a good job, it’s Seth Rogen as a superhero that I’m having a hard time imagining.

Cameron Diaz Offered Role in ‘Green Hornet’

Apparently Cameron Diaz is in talks to star in the upcoming film The Green Hornet opposite Seth Rogen.

Cameron Diaz is considering an offer to play the female lead in Green Hornet, opposite Seth Rogen. A deal hasn’t been sealed yet, but sources tell EW that she is in early talks for the role. Her reps at CAA declined comment. Michel Gondry is set to direct the film based on a script by Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg. Shooting is supposed to begin shortly, with a release date already set for July 9, 2010.

She’s a good choice, even thought we really don’t know much about the film. Here’s how I’m adding it up in my head: Michel Gondry the film’s director is excellent at directing surrealism in films (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and I think Cameron Diaz best role was in the surrealist film Being John Malkovich. Now, that’s not to say The Green Hornet will be surrealist, but it just makes sense to me.

Red Band ‘Funny People’ Trailer is Actually Funnier

funny-people

Here is the R-Rated trailer for the upcoming comedy Funny People starring Adam Sandler.

RESTRICTED 17+ ONLY!

This version is dirtier and than the original version of the trailer, because of that fact it’s actually funnier. Goes to show exactly what kind of comedy this is, regardless of how much ‘heart’ the filmmakers are trying to show. I’m just saying, stick to what you know Apatow.

Seth Rogen Dishes On Doing Comedy

seth-rogen-observe-and-report-premiere

Seth Rogen’s new movie, Observe and Report, is already generating tons of buzz.   He dishes on the movie and pushing the envelope of comedy in an interview with Parade.

On why there’s naked men, but no naked women, in the flick:

The reason we don’t have bare breasts in our movie is that they don’t get laughs. Now it’s all about penises. Breasts are out and the male organ is in. And when you saw my naked butt in Knocked Up, I knew that would get a laugh because it sometimes gets me laughs in real life.

On the secret to his recent weight loss:

It’s a tapeworm. You don’t believe that? How about bulimia? What you see is not muscle. I can kind of shape my fat to look like muscle. That’s one of my real acting skills.

On whether he thinks he pushes his humor too far:

I think if it gets a laugh, then no. Nowhere on my radar is the thought, ‘Is this movie good for society?’ To me, if it’s funny, it’s good for society. If it’s not funny, it’s bad for society. I think it was funny. It’s a movie. It’s supposed to entertain people. We keep on pushing and we haven’t hit that limit so it’s working so far. I think major studios are acknowledging that people like this stuff. Just because it’s not necessarily safe or easy to categorize, doesn’t mean people won’t go see it. What always shocks me when we do these test screenings is that, generally, women like it more than men, which is never what I would imagine.

Check out the rest of the interview here.

Seth Rogen Talks ‘Green Hornet’

seth-rogen-green-hornet

Here’s a recent interview with Seth Rogen about his upcoming film, The Green Hornet.

We talked to the in-demand actor on Tuesday at the press day for Observe and Report about the superhero film.

Q: When does “The Green Hornet” start shooting?
Seth Rogen: Right now the end of June. That is our tentative start date.

Q: What is Stephen Chow’s involvement at this point?
Rogen: He’s kind of our mascot. (laughs) He may be Kato. I’m not 100% sure if that’s the case, but it’s a very likely possibility. I’m not sure. Honestly, we’re kind of in the very early phases right now. We’re just putting those elements in place so I’m being honest. I honestly don’t know yet.

Q: Are you going to stick to the original “Green Hornet” concept?
Rogen: He’s actually the Lone Ranger’s grandnephew. The Lone Ranger is owned by Jerry Bruckheimer so that probably limits the amount of involvement we can actually have in that movie. We were inspired by the original. We kind of took what we thought was good and left what we didn’t. Honestly, we didn’t feel any real obligation living up to the original because the radio plays totally different than the TV show which is different than the comic book. There is no real set way.

Since the concept is pretty open, I’m sure director Michel Gondry will make it bright and intriguing as he does with all his films.

‘Eternal Sunshine’ Director Michel Gondry Doing ‘Green Hornet’

ff_gondry1_f

Michel Gondry, director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is set to direct The Green Hornet starring Seth Rogen.

Columbia has set Michel Gondry to direct “The Green Hornet,” and the studio has set a June 25, 2010, release date for the film.Seth Rogen plays the title character, and Stephen Chow will play his sidekick, Kato.

Rogen wrote the script with Evan Goldberg. Neal Moritz is producing through is Original Film banner.

Gondry, best known for far-out fare like “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “The Science of Sleep” and “Human Nature,” brings an unusual sensibility to what will be the most overtly commercial film of his career.

His incredibly colorful and obscure style is sure to add a lot to the film.

‘Green Hornet’ Lives

greenhornetlogo-1

This week there were rumors of Seth Rogen’s The Green Hornet getting cancelled. Fortunately that’s not the case! The film is still on track, despite the loss of Steven Chow as director.

Some of the (assumed) studio disinterest came from the directorial departure of Stephen Chow. Says Rogen: “[The studio heads] have every intention on making it, and assuming we’re able to hire a new director in the upcoming weeks, which seems like a distinct possibilty [sic], it should still hit the release date.” In the meantime, Harry at AICN insists that his sources in Chow’s camp say he’s still going forward in the role of Kato, and that his departure was directorial only.

This should be a very cool movie, or at least funny.
