‘Star Trek 2′ Gaining Momentum for Announced 2012 Release

Star Trek 2 is currently scheduled for release on June 29th, 2012. Finally word of some progress has come down the pipeline.

Paramount set a release date for the film well over a year ago and that date is coming up at warp speed: June 29, 2012. All the other blockbusters scheduled for release around that time have begun production but, as far as we know, the script for the second Trek has yet to be completed or approved. So what’s the latest? Co-screenwriter Roberto Orci was over on TrekMovie.com and gave an update, basically saying that pre-production is ongoing based on a highly detailed, 70 page outline and that things will really begin to snowball once J.J. Abrams – who himself hasn’t officially committed to the project – finishes his obligations to Super 8, opening June 10.

J.J. Abrams isn’t officially committed to the movie, but I’m sure he will be in the next few days. It’s unfortunate that the film isn’t already going into it’s production stages. It’s unlikely it’ll make it’s announced release date next year, unless they start shooting in a couple months. Even then, it’ll more likely get a delay until at least the holiday season 2012. I really loved the first one, I hope they can manage to make the second on the same quality level.

Jeri Ryan Is Still Totally Hot (PICS)

Jeri Ryan, aka Seven of Nine from Star Trek: Voyager, was smoking hot at the Disney ABC Summer 2010 TCA Tour.   She is a great example of a woman who gets better as she gets older.  She could not be more perfect here – classy, sexy, and chic.  I’m especially loving the neckline on her dress.

Jeri’s new ABC show, Body of Proof, premieres this fall.  She’ll be co-starring with Dana Delaney.    Definitely going to check it out!

‘Star Trek 2′ Filming in January

Looks like the sequel to the hit film Star Trek will begin principle photography in January of next year.

Bruce Greenwood, who played Christopher Pike in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek, revealed to Hollywood.com that filming on the sequel will start in January.

“I just know that the plan is to film it in January, more than that, I don’t know,” Greenwood said, adding that he hoped to have a role in the movie.

John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and Anton Yelchin are expected to return in the June 29, 2012 release. Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman again wrote the script.

Great news, and it makes perfect sense for the film’s release date. I really hope the next film will live up to the high standard that the first movie set.

Chris Pine Furry In Plaid

Chris Pine Eating Out

Chris Pine was spotted on his way out from the Il Capriccio restaurant in Los Angeles with a ‘doggie bag’ today. You would think someone that is in the blockbuster movie Star Trek wouldn’t have to worry about bring leftovers home. But that just shows that fame hasn’t got to him.

And the funny thing is that Chris almost turned down the role as Captain Kirk in Star Trek. Chris has already accepted the role in Joe Carnahan’s adaptation of James Ellroy’s novel White Jazz when he got the part in Star Trek.

“It was a huge decision choosing between the films. I was presented with an unbelievable and really difficult choice. To pick acting with Clooney and playing a character role instead of doing another leading man role was very appealing to me.

“But it was when a friend asked if, in five years time, looking back, would I regret not taking Star Trek, that I knew I didn’t want to be in the position of wondering what-if?”

I think that Chris made the right decision. Even I couldn’t turn down Star Trek.

Zachary Quinto as the New Spock: First Photo

Spock

OK! Magazine has the first photo of Heroes villain Zachary Quinto as Spock in the upcoming Star Trek prequel. Wow, is that Leonard Nimoy? He looks like he is going to make a great Spock, but I’d rather have my brains eaten by Sylar any day than go out with this character!

Winona Ryder to Play Spock’s Mom in Next Star Trek Film

Winona Ryder

Our little (reformed?) shoplifting heroine, Winona Ryder has signed on to play the Vulcan mom of Mr. Spock (Zachary Quinto of Heroes fame,) in the next Star Trek installment to be helmed by JJ Abrams.

The role will see Ryder don the prosthetic pointy ears made famous by Leonard Nimoy in the sci-fi series. Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film will focus on the early journey of the original Enterprise crew and is due for release in December next year.

Always love Winona no matter if it’s store security footage or a major film role.
