Stephen Colbert Is ‘Hobbit’ Bound

Mr. Smartypants meet Bilbo Baggins.

Funnyman Stephen Colbert will hang with the citizens of Middle Earth as the actor has been cast in one of Peter Jackson‘s upcoming Hobbit movies.

The Comedy Central host of The Colbert Report confessed his fandom of the J.R.R. Tolkien books and of Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings trilogy of movies to Playboy magazine:

“Peter Jackson invited me to the set last year,” he told the magazine. “I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations. I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I’m a big fan of the films.”

That started the speculation of a possible Colbert role in one of the forthcoming prequels. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Colbert is indeed part of The Hobbit trilogy, but he will not appear in the first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which hits theaters December 15th.

Colbert, whose part is unknown, will appear in one of the following films – The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug (out Dec 13, 2013) or The Hobbit: There And Back Again bowing July 18, 2014.

Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellan, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Andy Serkis and Christopher Lee are all reprising their roles for the films. Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman, Evangeline Lilly and Lee Pace also star.

It really is ridiculous that there are movies coming out based on board games like Candy Land, Monopoly and Battleship. The studio’s are so incredibly unwilling to take any risks.

Celebrities Get Bugged!

full_wenn2281024_katewinslet_beetle_470_0609

One of the perks of being a celebrity is that sometimes you get things named after you.  And one of the more obscure things you can have named after you is a creepy crawly critter like a bug or a spider.  Get a load of these celebs and their non-human namesakes.

Kate WinsletAgra katewinsletae (a beetle)

Jerry GarciaCryptocercus garciai (a cockroach)

Stephen ColbertAsptostichus stephencolberti (a California trap-door spider)

John LennonAvalanchurus lennoni (a prehistoric trilobite)

StingDendropsophus stingi (a Colombian tree frog)

Bill GatesEristalis gatesi (a Costa Rican flower fly)

Comedian John Cleese‘s animal namesake is a bit higher up the food chain – Avahi cleesei is a wooly lemur.

I’m trying to figure out exactly how one should react to having a bug named after them, especially a cockroach.  Is it a compliment or an insult?   Check out more animals named after celebrities here.

Stephen Colbert Takes On Anderson Cooper

stephen-colbert anderson-cooper

With everyone looking for SOMETHING in regards to Michael Jackson since his passing, Anderson Cooper on CNN did a story on Bubbles the chimpanzee, and what he has been doing since leaving Neverland Ranch. Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert saw this and had to admit that he had been scooped, on his own show The Colbert Report.

It is good to know that Anderson Cooper has a sense of humor about himself.

Here’s how Stephen Colbert reacted to Christian Bale‘s recent on-set outburst.

I love that he never directly mentions Christian Bale once. He’s great.

Kanye West Pseudo-Dissed by Stephen Colbert

According to Comedy Central personality and purveyor of his new Christmas comedy CD Stephen Colbert ranks the top voices of this generation as himself, Obama Girl, the Freecreditreport.com guys, then Kanye West tied with crocs. Yes, crocs.

Check out this hilarious video ultimately promoting Colbert’s A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All. And don’t worry kids, they’re really homies in non-entertainment life.

A Colbert Christmas!

Finally!  A new Christmas special that I actually want to watch and have a guaranteed good round of laughs!

This year, a great American holiday tradition is born – watching “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!,” Stephen Colbert’s one-hour original musical holiday special premiering Sunday, November 23 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on COMEDY CENTRAL.

In the special, Colbert is on his way to perform with Elvis Costello in New York City but is trapped by snow in his cabin in upstate New York (bear country). Luckily, his friends Feist, Toby Keith, John Legend, Willie Nelson and Jon Stewart stop by to help him celebrate the season. “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!” features original songs written by David Javerbaum (executive producer, “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”) and composer Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne), who recently collaborated on the Tony®-nominated Broadway musical “Cry Baby,” with the exception of “(What’s So Funny ’bout) Peace, Love And Understanding” which was written by Nick Lowe. The songs were produced by Schlesinger and Steven M. Gold. Theme music and score also by Schlesinger and Gold.

Songs performed on “A Colbert Christmas” include:

• “Another Christmas Song” – Stephen Colbert

• “Have I Got A Present For You” – Toby Keith

• “The Little Dealer Boy” – Stephen Colbert and Willie Nelson

• “Can I Interest You In Hannukah?” – Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart

• “Nutmeg” – Stephen Colbert and John Legend

• “Please Be Patient” – Feist

• “There Are Much Worse Things To Believe In” – Stephen Colbert and Elvis Costello

• “(What’s So Funny ’bout) Peace, Love And Understanding” – Stephen Colbert, Elvis Costello, Feist, Toby Keith, John Legend and Willie Nelson

For everyone in Colbert Nation, “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All!” DVD is the perfect stocking stuffer. It will hit stores on Tuesday, November 25, released via COMEDY CENTRAL Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment. The bonus features include a book burning Yule log, video advent calendar, alternate endings and more. COMEDY CENTRAL Records will also release the songs from the special as a digital album available exclusively on iTunes on Tuesday, November 25. A portion of the proceeds from both the DVD and iTunes will benefit the charity Feeding America.

Feeding America, (formerly known as America’s Second Harvest), feeds America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engages the country in the fight to end hunger. It is the nation’s largest charitable hunger-relief organization, with a network of more than 200 Member food banks and food rescue organizations serving all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

I am personally a huge fan of Stephen Colbert and think that this is definitely worth watching!  And hey, you will be supporting a good cause!  Get out there and pick up a copy or…..10……

Hillary Clinton is Well-Prepared on ‘Colbert Report’

Hillary Clinton was on The Colbert Report last night with Stephen Colbert. Also making appearances though were John Edwards and Barack Obama via sattelite. Personally, I thought John Edwards’ version of “The Word”, aptly titled “Ed Words”, stole the show! All the guests were great though.

What do YOU think of Hillary on The Colbert Report? Funny, or not? At least she didn’t make that joke about wearing the pant suits again!
