Brad Pitt Making ‘Moneyball’

brad-pitt-red-carpet-nc

Brad Pitt is set to star in a new film directed by Steven Soderbergh, Moneyball.

Steven Soderbergh is in early talks to direct “Moneyball,” the Columbia Picturesadaptation of the Michael Lewis book “Moneyball: The Art of Winning An Unfair Game.” Pic will star Brad Pitt and is being adapted by Steven Zaillian.Soderbergh is looking to make the picture his next directing assignment. He had been expected to next direct “Cleo,” the musical about the fatal romance between Egyptian queen Cleopatra and Roman general Marc Antony.

Soderbergh had lined up his “Traffic” star Catherine Zeta-Jones to play the title character, and had Hugh Jackman in his sights for Antony. Though he set his financing, Soderbergh decided to push back the film until next year, after Jackman dropped out because of scheduling problems.

Pitt is still such a busy guy, I wonder how well he knows all those kids.

New Mob Movie ‘Falcone’ in the Works from Soderbergh

Peter Buchman and Steven Soderbergh are teaming up again to work on Making Jack Falcone, a true story.

Buchman is writing the script, and Soderbergh will executive produce the project, which tells the story of Joaquin “Jack” Garcia, also known as Jack Falcone, a Cuban-American FBI agent who successfully went undercover in the Gambino crime family.

“Falcone” is based on the eponymous Simon & Schuster/Touchstone tome published last month that, after a barrage of publicity that included a “60 Minutes” segment, has landed on the New York Times extended best-seller list.

Sounds pretty interesting, it’ll be cool to see a story like this come to life. I wonder how close to the book the script will stick.

‘Che’ With Benicio Del Toro Coming to Theaters

The amazing story of Che Guevera will finally be seen by North American audiences.

IFC Films has picked up all North American distribution rights to Steven Soderbergh’s two-part “Che,” starring Benicio Del Toro, after Soderbergh tweaked and trimmed the two companion films post-Cannes.

IFC will release the epic Che Guevera biopic–which screened at the Toronto Film Fest this week–for a one-week qualifying awards run in December. Companion films will play in New York and Los Angeles.

Benicio Del Toro is likely to get an academy award nomination with a roll like this.
