Matthew McConaughey & Joe Manganiello Join Guy-tastic ‘Magic Mike’ Cast

Just when you think a movie about male strippers is heating up with some seriously good lookin’ beefcake (Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer) a few more hot hot hot guys enter the picture.

Matthew McConaughey, True Blood‘s Joe Manganiello and White Collar‘s Matthew Bomer have signed on for roles in Magic Mike to be directed by Steven Soderbergh.

Mike is semi-autobiographical of Tatum’s true past as a male dancer in Florida.

McConaughey will play a retired stripper who owns the club that the others work in. Pettyfer is the young guy, new on the scene with Tatum playing the more experienced dancer who takes Pettyfer under his wing and shows him the ropes (gosh, that sounded pornographic…)

Moving on.

Manganiello and Bomer are members of the male dance troupe.

I am happy with this cast. Well done.

Channing Tatum is a Male Stripper for ‘Magic Mike’

Channing Tatum is set to play a male stripper in an upcoming Steven Soderbergh movie called Magic Mike.

…it draws on Channing Tatum’s own history as a male stripper, though unlike in real life, he’ll play the old veteran who tutors an up and comer on the grinds of working in the industry. Speaking about the project, Tatum issues the following statement, “This was a wild and pivotal time in my life and I couldn’t be more thrilled to go down the rabbit hole with Steven.” A wild time is probably an understatement. The Reid Carolin penned script reportedly features plenty of boozing, women, partying and of course, disrobing.

Since Channing Tatum used to be a male stripper before he hit it big in hollywood, this isn’t much of a stretch for him. Steven Soderbergh is really a hit or miss director for me and the subject matter isn’t exactly something that appeals to me. Needless to say I’m not looking forward to this one. I doubt the masses are either, but Soderbergh rarely tries to appeal to everyone anyway.

New Mob Movie ‘Falcone’ in the Works from Soderbergh

Peter Buchman and Steven Soderbergh are teaming up again to work on Making Jack Falcone, a true story.

Buchman is writing the script, and Soderbergh will executive produce the project, which tells the story of Joaquin “Jack” Garcia, also known as Jack Falcone, a Cuban-American FBI agent who successfully went undercover in the Gambino crime family.

“Falcone” is based on the eponymous Simon & Schuster/Touchstone tome published last month that, after a barrage of publicity that included a “60 Minutes” segment, has landed on the New York Times extended best-seller list.

Sounds pretty interesting, it’ll be cool to see a story like this come to life. I wonder how close to the book the script will stick.
