Anderson Cooper Joins Daniel Radcliffe On Broadway

Anderson Cooper is making his stage debut as a narrator for the musical How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The CNN anchorman’s part will be pre-recorded for the performances.

Cooper follows newsman Walter Cronkite, who recorded the opening for the 1995 revival that starred Matthew Broderick.

In the revival of the popular production Daniel Radcliffe is J. Pierrepont Finch, the brash window washer determined to make it big and John Laroquette plays J.B. Biggley, the boss of the firm where Finch gets a job in the mail room.

The play is set to open March 27th at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in New York City.

Check out the video of Cooper and Radcliffe below. (Read the article)

Pee-Wee Herman Makes A Comeback

What’s today’s secret word?  The secret word is REVIVAL!

If you’re around my age or a bit younger, you probably remember Pee-Wee Herman from Saturday morning TV.  But The Pee-Wee Herman Show first started as a stage production in Los Angeles, and it’s making a comebackPaul Reubens is resurrecting his alter ego for a short run at L.A.’s The Music Box @ Fonda.  All your old favorites will be there, including Cowboy Curtis, Miss Yvonne and Jambi!  Of the new show, Reubens said:

“I’ve put part of him away for a long time, but part of him has always been here with me.  I think it will be like riding a bike — which is not a bad analogy for Pee-Wee, by the way.”

Hopefully he has put away for good the part of him that does private things in public!!  Good luck with the show, Paul!

Taylor Hicks Is Grease’s “Teen Angel” In National Tour

Taylor Hicks – whom I still think is the least likely American Idol winner ever, and yet he won – has been taking on Broadway with the role of Teen Angel in a revival of the musical Grease. Theater lovers won’t have to go to New York to see him though – he’s signed on to the show’s national tour. (Find out when Grease will be in your town here.)

Taylor Hicks is no Frankie Avalon, but I think he’s just right for the role. It’s only one song, after all, so he can’t screw up too much! And such an inspirational message:

Beauty school dropout…
If you go for your diploma, you could join a steno pool.
Turn in your teasin’ comb and go back to high school!

Ah, the 1950s mentality. Steno pool! Does anyone even know what that is anymore?

By the way, it seems that this production is the natural next step for many AI alumni – they’ve also got Ace Young as thick-in-the-head greaser Kenickie. It’s good for these wanna-be Idols that musicals are going strong these days!
