Johnny Depp Is A Creepy Vampire In ‘Dark Shadows’

Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are teaming up again to for this year’s upcoming Dark Shadows.  The movie is an adaptation of the 1960s TV show of the same name, and focuses on the vampire Barnabas Collins.  He was cursed by a witch and turned into a vampire.  When he escapes his tomb 200 years later, in 1972, he finds his hometown very changed, and his descendants dysfunctional.

You really get a sense of Depp’s character from these recently released stills.   It’s a different type of role for Depp – proving that he can pretty much do anything – and yet it also seems familiar, reminiscent of both Willy Wonka (Charlie & The Chocolate Factory) and The Mad Hatter (Alice In Wonderland)… both also Burton films, by the way.  Oh, and speaking of Burton films, you know who else is in this movie:  Helena Bonham Carter, of course.

Tim Burton Says No 3D for ‘Dark Shadows’ with Johnny Depp

Tim Burton, director of the upcoming Johnny Depp film Dark Shadows said in a recent interview that the film will not be shot in 3D. When asked during his recent interview here’s what he said:

I have no plans for that. I loved doing “Alice” in 3D. “Freankeweenie,” gonna do that in 3D. There’s people like, “Everything’s gonna be in 3D,” or “I hate 3D!” I think people should have a choice. I don’t think it should be forced on anybody. At the same time, it’s great, some of it. It’s like “Yes or no!? 3D! Yes or no?!” It’s like, well, you know, come on, whatever, some yes, some no.

This is good news to me, not that I’m against 3D but this movie doesn’t seem like it will need it anyway. Alice in Wonderland‘s 3D was kind of bad in my opinion, it took away from the movie itself in many ways. Thankfully they can just focus on making an engaging and good movie, rather than wowing us with effects this time around. Hopefully the studio doesn’t force it at the last minute.

Johnny Depp is a Vampire in Tim Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows’, Details Revealed

Johnny Depp will play a vampire in the upcoming Tim Burton movie Dark Shadows. Check out all the fresh new details:

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet—or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Brouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

Also residing in the manor is Elizabeth’s ne’er-do-well brother, Roger Collins (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (Chloe Moretz); and Roger’s precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gulliver McGrath). The mystery extends beyond the family, to caretaker Willie Loomis, played by Jackie Earle Haley, and David’s new nanny, Victoria Winters, played by Bella Heathcote.

I never watched the original show, in fact, I never even knew it existed until now. I’m sure this movie is going to be a lot of fun, especially with the whole Burton gang together with the new cast in tow. Seeing Johnny Depp as a vampire will be fun, I’m sure there will be a little bit of Jack Sparrow in there someplace. Expect this movie in theaters on May 11th, 2012.

Thomas McDonell to Play Young Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s ‘Dark Shadows’

Young actor Thomas McDonell has been cast to play the young Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s upcoming film Dark Shadows. The film will also star (obviously) Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Bella Heathcoate, Jackie Earle Haley and Eva Green. Helena Bonham Carter is also expected to be joining the cast.

Warner Bros and director Tim Burton has set Thomas McDonell to play the young Barnabas Collins in Dark Shadows, the feature film based on the 1960s TV soap. He’ll be serving as the younger version of the character that Johnny Depp plays in the film’s lead role.

He really looks like Johnny Depp did at that age, it’s almost bizarre. This movie sounds like it’s going to be pretty cool, it’s like all the actors in Tim Burton‘s movies are a part of his club. He brings them back over and over. I wonder how many Burton movies Thomas McDonell will be in after this one.

The always fabulous Helena chose a black velvet bustier with shoulder cut out details and a bustle on the back of her gown for the 2011 Oscars. Love it!

Carter was nominated for Best Supporting Actress but lost to Melissa Leo of The Fighter.

Burton’s film, Alice In Wonderland was up for three awards.

Tim Burton May Be Making ‘Maleficent’

Maleficent

There’s a fascinating bit of news floating around that Tim Burton‘s next film might be a live action spin off, telling the story of Sleeping Beauty‘s villain, Maleficent!

Hey folks, Harry here with the coolest whisper I’ve heard in a while. I was chatting to a fella I know tonight, and this person heard that Tim Burton is developing another classic Disney fairy tale in a quasi Live Actiony kinda way. It seems that Tim has a hankering for SLEEPING BEAUTY… but not really… You see, he’s going to tell the story from Maleficent’s point of view. In fact, it’ll be called MALEFICENT.

She was always the most interesting character in that story, but we never knew why she hated those three little fairy wenches… or what indignity she suffered at the hands of Aurora’s parents. Yeah, I’m on board… if only it ends with Maleficent with a sword in her heart in dragon form. Cuz that’ll rule. Think about how long this plotline was carried out over. She has quite a tale to tell. Let’s see where it pops up in Burton’s filmography. We’re hearing that DARK SHADOWS is stumbling a bit… Let’s see what Tim does next, he has some interesting choices before him.

Of anybody who would be perfect to direct a movie about the character Maleficent it’s Tim Burton. My question is what part will Johnny Depp play? You know he’ll be in anything Tim Burton does, maybe this will be his first role as a female. Wait! I was saying that as a joke, but he actually looks a bit like her! I bet he could pull it off.

New Full ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Trailer is Visual Overload

Alice in Wonderland Poster 3

Here’s the full feature trailer for the upcoming film Alice in Wonderland starring Johnny Depp from the twisted hand of Tim Burton.

I’m a little underwhelmed at the amount of obvious CGI in this film; I miss Jim Henson‘s Creature Workshop. Other than the obvious cartoony feel, I still look forward to seeing all the little funky details and characters in this film coming to life.

Ultra-Bizarre New ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Poster

Alice in Wonderland Poster

Here’s the strange new poster for the upcoming Tim Burton film Alice in Wonderland.

Just bizarre. I really don’t know what to make of this movie, but I know I want to see it as soon as it comes out. I really hope it’s not as disappointing as it has the potential to be, the original animated film is actually a lot to live up to in the live action world.
