Tobey Maguire Fronts Prada’s Menswear Campaign

Tobey Maguire is the latest celebrity to land a high profile fashion campaign and give those models a run for their money.

The former Spider-Man actor is fronting for Prada’s Menswear Fall 2011 looking very serious and absorbed in his fashionable thoughts and almost a little angry. What’s got you in such a mood?

Maguire, 35, wears a mock turtleneck, sweater, boxy cut jacket and an intense stare for the photos shot by photographer David Sims.

Micuccia Prada is quite happy with the actor and said she loved the mystery he brought to the images.

“His mood is transfixed and pensive, full of vibrant intensity and mystery,” said the designer.

Despite the look, Tobey says he was “thrilled” to do modeling for the luxury brand.

“A great supporter of the arts, Miuccia Prada has inspired a culture of creativity that is woven through every aspect of her company, from her collections and campaigns to every design detail in her stores” said Maguire. “I have such admiration for her artistry and I’m thrilled to be a part of Prada’s fall campaign.”

Maguire is filming Life of Pi with director Ang Lee and will reunite with his longtime bud, Leonardo DiCaprio for Baz Lurhman‘s The Great Gatsby. Maybe that will cheer you, Tobey? That or the fat paycheck you received. Either one.

Meet Your New ‘Spider-Man’!

It’s official, a new Spider-Man has been cast. Relatively unknown Andrew Garfield has been cast as the high school aged web slinger.

Yesterday it was announced that 26-year-old British actor Andrew Garfield (Boy A, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, The Social Network) has been cast as Peter Parker aka Spider-Man in Marc Webb’s 3D Spider-Man reboot. The selection of Garfield was revealed at a press event in Cancun, Mexico for international journalists attending a media tour promoting upcoming films from Sony Pictures Entertainment.

I’m glad they went with somebody who isn’t all that known, and he looks about 1000% more like Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire ever did.

Tobey Maguire May Be ‘The Hobbit’

Tobey Maguire

Reportedly Tobey Maguire is being considered for the role of The Hobbit in the upcoming film.

Tobey Maguire is up for the lead role in the movie Bilbo Baggins based on the book series by JRR Tolkien.

A source said:

The Hobbit team are deep in the casting process. Everyone is over the moon. Tobey is not only one of the most recognizable faces in , he is also one of the best actors.”

And while Maguire said he hasn’t spoken to the filmmakers, he did say:

“I love Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson and I certainly wouldn’t take myself out of the conversation.”

Maguire would be a good choice but I wouldn’t pic him over a lot of other actors like James McAvoy who is also being considered. I’m sure somebody will be officially locked down soon, they need to hurry up and start shooting this thing!

‘Spider-Man 4′ Officially Cancelled

Spider-Man

Spider-Man 4 was almost ready to begin principle photography, but the plug has been pulled. There will be no Spider-Man 4. Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire and the rest of the current cast are out. It’s not all bad news though, Sony is still planning to make another Spider-Man film. Rather than a sequel to the current series it will be a re-boot with young Peter Parker in high school.

Sony has announced that Sam Raimi, director of the first three Spider-Man films, has backed out of the next one due to creative differences. Star Tobey Maguire has also backed out now, and Sony is planning for the next film to be a total franchise reboot that will start with the Peter Parker character back in high school. This new film, which won’t be Spider-Man 4, is now set for release in 2012.

Raimi had told Sony that he couldn’t make the scheduled May 5th, 2011 release date for Spider-Man 4 while maintaining the film’s creative integrity. Sony responded by dumping the entire film, going back to a reboot script written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac), and started the search for a new director and cast.

Here’s what Raimi had to say about the news, “Working on the ‘Spider-Man’ movies was the experience of a lifetime for me. While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job.”

To me this is great news! I wasn’t excited about Spidey 4 anyway, not after the abysmal failure of a movie that was Spider-Man 3. I was never a fan of Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker, this news means an all new cast! I’m thrilled, and besides, the new Spider-Man will still be out in 2012.

Rachel McAdams Officially Playing Black Cat in ‘Spider-Man 4′?

rachel_mcadams

Rachel McAdams is rumored to be starring as a villain in Spider-Man 4.
Insiders says Rachel is a top contender for the role of Felicia Hardy, also known as the black cat. In the story, Spider-Man first encounters the Black Cat when she’s looking to free her sick father from prison. She becomes smitten with Spidey, to the point of a stalker-level obsession. Later stories had Peter reciprocating her affection and her becoming a lover, a friend and ally.
I hope she does get the role, she’d be great. I really hope this movie isn’t like Spider-Man 3, Raimi needs to take it back to the quality of the first two.

Intense New ‘Brothers’ Trailer

Brothers Banner

Here’s a brand new trailer for the upcoming drama Brothers from 6 time Oscar nominated director Jim Sheridan.

This movie really looks like it’s going to be good, Tobey Maguire really looks insane in this trailer. I spent a day on the set of this film and I can tell you, Sheridan is going for gold here.

DiCaprio’s Rep Says He is Not Involved in ‘The Third Man’

leo_dicaprio

Although it was a big story a couple days ago DiCaprio‘s rep says he is not involved in the the upcoming The Third Man remake.

“He isn’t involved with that project,” DiCaprio’s rep tells Hollyscoop exclusively in regards to reports that he’s set to star in The Third Man alongside good pal Tobey Maguire.

The 1949 Carol Reed remake centers on novelist Holly Martins as he arrives in Vienna to discover that the friend that invited him, Harry Lime, has died in a traffic accident. Orson Welles starred in the original.

Would have been a great choice in the role, but hey there are a lot of other great actors out there. Hopefully they get somebody of a higher caliber than Tobey Maguire.

Leonardo DiCaprio Starring in ‘The Third Man’ Remake?

leonardo_dicapriothird_man

Rumor has it that Leonardo DiCaprio could be starring in a remake of The Third Man.

File this one under rumor, but it’s a pretty solid rumor or I wouldn’t be running it. This is still early enough in the game that it could all fall apart, but it’s also late enough in the game that it could be officially announced in a week or two.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire might be starring in a remake of the classic Carol Reed film The Third Man, which is being written by EasternPromises screenwriter Steven Knight. The package comes from Canal Plus and it’s going out for bidding, and the bidding is likely to be fierce. That’s a hell of a line-up, after all. And it’s before they have a director in place.

If the rumors turn out to be true, this will be a big movie, especially if they get a big name director attached. I’ll keep you posted as news unfolds.
