‘Top Chef’ is Heading to Las Vegas!

top-chef-photo

Now that Lifetime has scooped up Project Runway, Top Chef is now Bravo’s highest rated series… So to keep those ratings high, they are taking the show’s sixth season to the trashiest place in the country: Las Vegas.

Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi, lead judge Tom Colicchio and judges Gail Simmons and Toby Young were all on-board for filming, which has already wrapped. The season is set to premiere later this year.

Hosea Rosenberg Dishes on ‘Top Chef’ Win & His Relationship with Leah

Hosea Rosenberg beat out rival and predicted winner Stefan Richter to take home the title of Top Chef on last week’s finale episode. The 35 year old Boulder, CO chef who hooked up with fellow contestant, Leah, during filming spoke with Entertainment Weekly after the big win. Here are some highlights:

Did you think you had it in the bag all season? You were a formidable competitor…

Early on, I really thought that I would do well. Up until halfway through the season, I was really in a groove and really felt like I was showing myself to be one of the top players. And then things got a little unraveled for me. Toward the end of being in New York, I didn’t really feel like I was putting my best foot forward and creating my best food, and I was kind of just getting by. It was all mental. I was getting too stressed out. I had stuff on my mind about my parents and about my relationship and a lot of things. It kind of threw me off my game for awhile. [But] I had that break [prior to filming the finale], and I was able to just recollect, and I was able to put my head back on straight and remember what I was doing. And going back to New Orleans, I felt confident, I felt happy, I was relaxed. I really felt good about being there. I felt I deserved to be there. And I was there to show everybody that I had what it took.

Constantly throughout the season, you said that Stefan was cocky. We viewers really didn’t see too much cockiness until the final two episodes. Was he worse than what we saw on TV?

Stefan is cocky. But he’s cocky for a reason. And he backs it up. I have a lot of respect for Stefan, and I also consider him a true friend. And what you see are those little interactions where we’re getting into it, but overall, 95 percent of the time living with him, we really got along really well. We enjoyed each other and we had a lot of great conversations. We talked a lot about everything. About life, about cooking, about food. There’s a reason he’s cocky. He’s cocky because he knows he was dominating the competition, he’s one of the best chefs the show has ever seen. That’s his style and that’s who he is. I have a lot of respect for Stefan. All the jabbing and all the smack talk you saw in the show was just more playful than it was meant to be mean.

Carla was really doing well toward the end of the season, but you guys seemed to ignore her as a competitor. Why?

Toward the end of being in New York, I was shocked by Carla. She totally surprised every one of us that was there and really showed us that when she’s in her groove, she can really get it done. Going into the finale in New Orleans, I definitely considered her a threat… I was hoping that if I didn’t win it was going to be her. Not that I didn’t think Stefan didn’t deserve the title, but it would have been nice to see her win. And honestly, when she told me what her menu was for that last meal, I really thought she had it. I really thought she was going to end up with the title… It just came down to details in the end. It wasn’t that anybody’s food was bad.

Are you and Leah still in touch? Any potential for a future relationship?

We’re still in touch. We’re good friends. I care about her. I think she’s an amazing chef, and I consider her a good friend.

Are the two of you still dating the significant others you were seeing during the show?

No, neither one of us is still with our significant others.

So what are your plans for the future?

Looking to open a restaurant in the very near future. I’m also looking on a product line that will be in Whole Foods, some prepared foods. I’m working with a company that’s already established. But we’re going to be expanding their line and doing a lot of work with them. I’ve also been invited to a bunch of food festivals, so that’s something that will be really fun.

It’s interesting that both Hosea and Leah are no longer with their significant others. I am sure the cheating had something to do with that. I still can’t believe Hosea won- I mean he seems like a decent chef, but none of the final 4 were anything special. None of them would have made it halfway through the competition in previous seasons. Pick up the talent next season, Bravo!!!

Hosea Rosenberg Beats Out Rival Stefan Richter for ‘Top Chef’ Title

Team Europe was split on Top Chef when my favorite contestant, Fabio, was told to “pack his knives and go” last week. But perhaps the most arrogant contestant ever on the show, Stefan Richter, still thought he was the obvious choice for winner of Top Chef. That over-confidence is what probably led to his demise. He made a great alligator soup when assigned the difficult protein by Hosea Rosenberg. He also made the best dish of the night- squab. However, his watery first dish and boring, easy dessert is what lost him the competition.

Hosea brought out 4 strong courses and took home the title of Top Chef. Carla Hall was definitely in the running until she let her assistant chef make some major decisions that ended up costing her the win. Had she done what she wanted, she probably would have won. It was a lesson learned for all of us…

This was the most boring season yet, with the most boring, under-talented contestants. I was ready for it to be over and so disappointed that they brought those people to two of the best cities in the country- New York and New Orleans. Oh well, congrats to Hosea!

Another ‘Top Chef’ Contestant Gets Engaged

Following in the footsteps of fan favorite Sam Talbot, another Top Chef contestant has gotten engaged and is going green.

Nikki Cascone, a 36-year-old chef and restaurant co-owner from New York City, got engaged to Brad Grossman, her longtime boyfriend and restaurant partner, over the holidays, People magazine reported Monday. “I’m beyond happy,” Cascone told People. “My only issue is that I can’t cook with my engagement ring on!”

Cascone and Grossman co-own 24 Prince, a restaurant in New York City’s SoHo district.

The 31-year-old Grossman proposed to Cascone while she was cooking dinner. “I tied the ring around one of the dogs’ necks and tried to get him to run over to Nikki,” Grossman told People. “But that wasn’t happening … so in the end I told Nikki to go see the dog.”

Cascone and Grossman are planning to wed in Spring 2010 ceremony that will be “green and sustainable” and feature 200 guests, according to People.

Congrats the the happy and well-fed couple!

Sam Talbot-the hottest contestant to ever grace the Top Chef kitchen- has officially gone off the market.

The former Top Chef second-season finalist and his fiance Paola Guerro were married in a “secret” wedding ceremony at New York City Hall on November 17, a source close to Talbot told People in a Friday report.

“It was just the two of them, looking low-key but gorgeous,” the source told People. “They are madly in love, and he is the happiest man alive to call her his wife.”

Talbot finished third on Top Chef’s Fall 2006 second season and currently owns The Surf Lodge in Montauk, NY.

Congrats to the happy couple!

Details Revealed About ‘Top Chef: New York’

The cooking show that made cooking cool, Top Chef, premieres it’s new season tomorrow night on Bravo. This time all the action will heat up in the city that never sleeps, New York. I don’t know about you, but I could NOT be more excited.

Recently, host Padma Lakshmi and judge Tom Colicchio spoke about the new season.

“I was so excited for it to be in New York. I really was,” Lakshmi told reporters during a Friday conference call.  “I mean I’m very proud of this show for, you know, like not only going to fine restaurants… but also really looking at the city holistically,” Laksmi said.

Colicchio added, “What’s interesting about this season, it was somewhat of a difficult shoot.  Usually if we’re on location somewhere else we sort of create our own little universe,” Colicchio told reporters.  “I think because we were shooting in New York and we all live in New York, we’re going back to our regular lives as soon as we were off the set, at least I was.”

“Obviously shooting in New York lent itself to a lot of just amazing things that New York has to offer - you know, a lot of different ethnic cuisines,” he said.  “That sort of worked itself into the challenges at a lot of different locations.”

Top Chef: New York’s 17 contestants range from 21- to 44-years-old, hail from across the country and have a wide variety of culinary credentials.  “They’re an interesting bunch,” said Lakshmi.  “I thought they really held their own. I think the one thing I noted this season is that it was really interesting to watch the evolution of more than a few of them.  I think they really are - were very quick learners. And so some of the contestants over the course of the challenges and weeks really surprised us.”

Lakshmi added the amount of food and lack of time does make the judges’ job more difficult. “The amount of food consumed is staggering,” she said.  “And also, we — especially in the first half of the show when we have so many contestants — you know, I feel and I’m sure Tom would agree the (onus) is on us to make sure we sample every contestant’s dish adequately, you know, in fairness. So it does become difficult.”

Responding to critics comments that the show is more about mass-media production that discipline and technique, Lakshmi had this to say.

“I think that Top Chef also does a great service in informing people about food and cooking technique, and eating right and using good local ingredients,” she said.  “You’ll see that a lot, especially on this season.  And so for that, too, I think it - yes it has - TV has changed the way people look at food for the good, you know, for the better I believe.”

I am a huge fan of the show and can’t wait for tomorrow’s premiere!!!

‘Top Chef’ Gets a New Judge

Looks like judging panel on Top Chef will be even tougher for season 5, premiering November 12 on Bravo. Toby Young will be the newest judge, and I am sure he will hold nothing back. The food critic is best known for his memoir How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.

This season’s festivities take place in New York and are sure to be full of drama with 17 contestants and many celebrity guest stars like:

-jailbird and craftswoman extraordinaire Martha Stewart

-Dancing with the Stars contestant and chef Rocco Dispirito

-musical group The Foo Fighters

- celebrity chef Eric Riper.

‘Top Chef’ Rat Marcel Vigneron Gets DUI

Looks like the guy everyone loved to hate on Top Chef has gotten himself into a little bit of trouble. Marcel Vigneron, runner-up of season 2, was popped for DUI early Saturday morning in Laguna Beach. He was stopped for speeding, but after showing signs of intoxication was given a blood test and arrested.  Bail was set at $2,500. Sucks for him that he didn’t win that $100k grand prize now, huh?
