Rumors and speculation have been swirling for months on the possible Terminator 5, now the movie’s likely director (Justin Lin) has mentioned Vin Diesel as the possible lead.
Justin Lin, the film’s director, was recently reported to be up for directing duties on a new “Terminator” film for Universal, and almost immediately rumours began to swirl – particularly at the junket – that Vin Diesel might be in line for a role in the film. Fair assumption, after all, Vin and Justin are not only good friends but they’ve now worked together several times (if you include Vin’s cameo in “Tokyo Drift”) and are already planning to work together again.
While Lin is open to the idea of his “Fast” lead taking on Skynet, the only person he has approached so far about “Terminator 5” is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Still, it’s not out of the question.
“Vin’s been a really great partner on this franchise”, Lin says of the duo’s involvement in the “Fast” series. “We’ve talked about the mythology [of the Terminator series]…[pause] he’s a great guy and a great actor. I really like working with him so anything I do I usually talk to him about. Sometimes we even talk about going back and doing a little indy movie.”
Vin seems like an obvious choice for playing a Terminator, I’m sure if he’s offered the role he’ll snatch it up quick! It seems like at this point in Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s career, he would also be likely to return for another movie. This is one of those moments where we’ll just have to wait and see, I’m sure official announcements with start flowing in the coming months. Now remember, Skynet went live on April 19th, 2011, at 8:11 PM, judgement day didn’t happen as scheduled, but you better watch out for robots from the future!
